Mitch
22nd July 2003, 23:41
Ok I think I have my dates sorted now (cheers Spankme)

Sarurday August 2nd is an open day at the pukekohe track and weather permitting I'm going.

Anyone else keen?? :D

Si we are racing at Taupo the following weekend, could be some good practise!! :niceone: Or a chance to write our bikes off at the hairpin and not make it :o Hmmmm

Antallica
22nd July 2003, 23:49
I am interested in this very much. Give you guys a chance to laugh at my crap learner driving. Good opportunity to get some cornering practice though.

Might be there. :) (just gotta find it) Anyone nice enough to be my guide? :argh:

I'll be there. Been wanting to get the bike on the track for ages.

Meet up at the Autobahn (http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/misc.php?s=&action=faq&page=10#autobahn) for a 0930 departure.

23rd July 2003, 11:04
Sweet as, can't wait to get there. I've got too much rubber on the very edges of my tyres, they need some scrubbing. Keen to meet up at the autobahn @ 09:30.

bluninja
23rd July 2003, 11:25
Mitch....better see if I make it through this weekend first...but it would be a good place to scrub in new tyres and work on suspension settings (cue...all the excuses for going slow). Alternatively I could take the RSVR out for a gentle run. Will have to wait and see.

hehe... i was JUST looking at some helmet ears to wear yesterday on www.bikesuperstore.com (http://www.bikesuperstore.com) .. everything from dalmations, black&brown dogs, cats, pigs, bears devils horns (all of which have a tail too!) and even some angels wings.. about 5 quid. I'm tempted!

anyone know where slim got hers?

Kwaka-Kid
28th July 2003, 08:31
well there go my chances i think.. i Put the carbs back on all cleaned out and everything, all happy that now my bike has carbs that are attached fully :) go to start it and shes very hesitent.. hmm, a slight chuff chuff from 1 cylander maybe... then i wonder what that wet feeling on my foot is.. strange, do all carbs pour petrol out of the bottom of them? or just my supa dupa worked on racing carbs (rofl!). i dunno where its coming from, maybe that little pokey out hte bottom thing, but quite possibly not actually.. strange, it is literally pouring out when i try and start her.. so what havnt i attached?

28th July 2003, 14:36
Well made it (slowly) through the weekend. I finally woke up in the last race taking 2 seconds out of my best lap time on the standing start lap and carving 7 seconds off my best lap from race 2......so I didn't get lapped! No crashing, no dramas at the hairpin or the esses. Since I'd modded the bikes ignition I thought I might have screwed up the power somehow. So I paid $25 for 3 runs on the dyno (after the last race) and it showed 66 bhp at 10K revs and a power curve that was almost a straight line up from 5k. So damn there went another excuse.

So weather permitting I will be along on Saturday trying not to go too slow :o

Dave, the meet was at Manfeild reverse circuit.

Hey with all these people coming to watch we could get pictures at all the corners (as long as Ho-hoon doesn't try to ride down the photographers :D). Maybe somebody could time us. Since it's going to be sunny for us to ride a sundial could be used to time my ride.

North Island, rain in the north with localised heavy falls, scattered rain elsewhere but dry in Wellington. South Island, cloudy in the east with drizzle patches possible, mainly fine elsewhere.

I've got home changed into my new T-shirt (thanks Spankme) and worked out how to set my laptimer on the RSVR, so all is well with the world.

I enjoyed meeting all the stalwart KB bikers today. A great bunch despite what their posts may suggest.:D

KK turned up senza motocycletta da corsa to a barrage of flack but took it in good turn. :niceone:

As unofficial time keeper (who couldn't read his own watch) I am happy to announce CK wasn't the nanny rider his times indicated. A complex conversion factor indicates his average was 1min, 11 sec, not bad for a lanky white boy. Blu your times were much better than I told you at an average of 1min, 17 sec.

The fastest one I recorded was Mr R1 at 1min, 5sec.

Great day all round I thought.:D

Good to see that every biker out there was a member or at least a lurker. Have already posted images of the day in the gallery. Also have this short movie clip. It felt good to get the SV1000s out in the track; I only wish it hadn’t started raining as I was starting getting the hang of it.

I only got one time for your bike Kiwistorm, and two for the other lad, Dan's I think. they are as follows:

yours - 1 min., 9.5 sec
Dan's ave - 1 min,. 9.3 sec

Is that what you were thinking? :niceone:

Good day indeed!

happy to meet some new KB'ers (to me) and others for the second time which helped me remember them lots more and now i can put a face to the post.

Got me some good info from sombody i still forgot/wasnt told the name of?

mitch who was that dude anyways?

and dayum that burger was good, worth every last penny. i wish i hada got out there :( just not on the ZXR, it has started going from 3-4cylanders occasionally now :S?

anyways one thing i must say: i am VERY happy and satisfied with being a slow rider :) - you guys all carve me! jsut coming onto the motorway i opened the ZXR up, gave me crap all power as its still having these problems, then i saw the tail end of the group (hehe thats you SPMAN!) shoot off, only to look down @ me speedo and say in my helmet "WTF? but im doing 140kmph~!" stuff that - cant afford handle bars let alone tickets!

so i slowed down and rode all by my lonesome :) well, watching aff-man in my rear view for a while, good to see u wernt pressured into catching up aff-man - as i wasnt.

anyways thats it from me! oh and i might try fix that handle bar tomorrow, so long as it dont cost me

Andy1 your almost right, :D have speedo but no speedo cable attached :p

I think 47's top speed is about 195ish. (down hill with a back wind)

Kiwistorm, What with all the flack I was getting from CK about his pathetic times (being wrong), trying to figure out the watch, had for eight years and never used as a stop watch, I wasn't on top of things.

It also took me a while to sort you to out as both bikes were the same coloured blur and I couldn't remember whose helmet was what colour. So thats why only got one time for you and two for Dan. I'll be ready next time.

andy1
3rd August 2003, 12:40
i was amazed how fast ur bike is mitch. didnt seem like u slow down at all when it was raining, and ck u are really fast man! maybe some rennsports are needed and u be kicking arse.

while i was on the track for a couple of laps i was passed by most of ya, but i was not to keen on stacking a $20,000 dollar bike.

p.s what was the top speed of the k3?? any speedo?

bluninja
3rd August 2003, 13:01
Andy I didn't pass you :( know what you mean about the risk of stacking an expensive bike. Just had a look at some of the pics.....maybe if I leaned the bike over I would go faster....I should change my name to the Upright Man.

Malcolm ( the guy on the blue RSV...not an RSVR, but he's put ohlins on the rear) gave some really good advice.....go slower to go faster. I've almost got the first part :D

BTW I'm just about to clean both bikes and I've checked out the tyres.....the RSVR tyres (Avon sports front, sports/tourer rear) and they have hardly marked at all, whereas the pirellis on the SV are pretty scrubbed and worked. Seem the Avons even at lower pressures aren't getting up to temp...must try harder.

Hey Affman
Don't be depressed. It might be a bit intimidating, but it sure as hell looked a lot of fun. I'm willing to take my CB400 onto the track next time and make a fool of myself. Why not join me? (We can have a contest to see who can get lapped the most by the others...)

Yeah I had a great time! Bit of a traffic jam in the corners but still a lot of fun.

I've discovered my bike is a bit off the pace on the straights as Mitch and the other black GSXR400 were pulling away from me but hopefully I'll be able to keep up with them this weekend at Taupo.

Very impressed with Mitchs wet riding too. As soon as it started raining everyone came in except for us F3ers. I slowed down too but Mitch was still screaming around - if that had been a race I wouldn't have had any show of keeping up with her!

Coldkiwi

about that rain...

I'd just like to say I have a really good reason for coming in! I nearly painted the armco by the back straight entry a nice shade of green (and red) after the rear came out from under me on the gas! (now I know why those racing commentators get so worked up when semi-highside happens on TV... they've done it themselves!). I didn't really fancy the idea of binning my only transport/2nd love/myself for the sake of a few wet laps.

But full credit to those who stayed out... an awesome day :)

Kwaka-Kid
4th August 2003, 16:16
yeah stink my bike handlebars fixed pretty much :( dad wanted to ride the bike on sunday and gave me the typical lecture of "what, so you were still riding it like this? sorry son but thats just not sane! dont you understand the handle bar is almost ready to sheer off?" blah blah, wasnt mad, just did the pretend to care lecture thingy :) but still, yeah we looked underneith the bar holder thingy, and theres a fracture along the underside :) i wonder how many more K's i coulda done b4 it did just fall out? i woulda been keen to find out if it wasnt for him! so nothing a bit of banging with hammer, araldite, and tightening (HARDOUT!) or the screw thingy didnt seem to fix... saved me $35 too! oh and the backseat no longer hits ur back and falls off when u brake, he fixed that for me, damn that made the bike more fun :(

well. thats it from me, and u guys better check the KIWIBIKER BBQ thread under RAVE ON section ALRITE!

hey ck, as i said before. i was surprised to see that everyone left when it started to rain. we grabbed the opportunity to have a munch, and then when we arrived back at the track no one else was riding besides Hoon. did everyone not pay $80 dollars?? still had another 2 sessions on a dry track with only 3bikes.

Mitch- is there a track day at taupo on sat (aug 9)
and racing on sunday?

ok mike i'll start saving now , gotta love being a poor student but with a top speed of about 165 170ish i think i'll win the being lapped title but getting down around the corners could be fun. Question for those out there i spent my all my money on the kbc gear you saw me in should i ride in that or save up a bit and buy a pair of leather pants??? :niceone:

gee... that sounds like someone else we know!! (of course, that particular person doesn't seem to be bothered by bald tyres anyway)

aff man... your KBC gear is fine for the track.. ideally it should zip together but since your's fits reasonably snuggly I would think you'd be fine (in terms of gear staying together) if you had an off.

Andy.. if I'd thought the track was going to dry out I probably would've stuck around... but the way the sky was looking and the temp seemed to be heading down i thought the odds were too slim so I prefered a few cups of coffee instead!

ROLL ON SUMMER! (how good was the weather today!?)

wow! just read through the last third of this thread, sounds like Puke was a good day, except for a bit of rain. :niceone:
If my bike was up to it I prolly would of been there for my virgin track ride.
I'd love to go round Taupo on my 600, better suited there than Puke I suspect.
