New World Champion Casey Stoner takes the Championship with four races to go.

He finished in 6th place at the Japanese Grand Prix at Twin Ring Circuit, Motegi.

Good on the young guy. If you read up on his story of how he has made it to the top you really have to give it up to him.

BUGGER! We were hoping he was going to not win the championship until Phillip Island on the 14th Oct.

Imaging that ... winning the championship on his home turf with Grub 'n' Nasty cheering him on. It would of course be the Grub n Nasty factor that would have clinched it.

It would have been a hard fought job for Rossi to take the title this year.

If he'd gone in one lap earlier, and not had 'problems' with the front when he went back out it may have been a different story i think.

He then would have had to win every race from now til the end of the season, and have had Stoner not finish or at least finish badly in a number of the races for it to have happened.

At the end of the day I think Stoner deserves the title, he has been consistently fast throughout the year, and although Rossi had a shite start to the season I don't think it detracts at all from the hard work that Stoner put in to take the title this year. I must say that it is much nicer seeing it go to him compared to the pain of the Nicky Hayden getting it last year, mainly through a run of good luck more than anything else.

The rest of the year will still be interesting, but i'm especially looking forward to next year with the 250 leaders getting to step up into the big seats!

A big congratulations to Stoner and the whole Duke outfit, they have done an outstanding job this year with development of the bike and the way they had it so impressively quick right out of the box.A very deserving champion in my eyes.
He was very quick at times last season but just not as consistant. This year he has just been the best almost everywhere they've gone, seems like him and the Desmo' have just clicked.I hope this is just one of many titles for the young guy :niceone:

Go the Dukes for the rest of the season :devil2:

I couldn't enjoy the racing without constantly seeing that "A-Style" logo. Doesn't look like "A" Style to me...

Prior to the beginning of this season Stoner was something of a joke. He had so many offs last year one of the Brit mags said he was shifting to Italy because he had used up Japans stocks of carbon fibre.

Initially he looked to be winning purely because of the extra power and the better tyres. Then he won in the wet. He has shown maturity when needed, and now appears to be the complete package.

I know there are still three races left, but I can't wait for next season.

Might have to go to Phillip Island again...

Where did he rejoin? Well in front of Stoner..... it was mainly the tire issue that cost him the race. Stoner had already won the championship to be honest..

If it's not one thing it's another for that poor bugger over the last two seasons. Bottom line though if you want to win a championship like that you have to be there or there abouts every race pretty much which ofcourse Stoner was so he deserves the title...until next year I guess when it all starts again. 3 more races this year I think, lets see if Rossi can salvage something and win a couple of em before they shut up shop for the year. Well done to the Stoner:msn-wink::niceone:

You gotta admit that Stoner lucked in with this championship. It was not just about the rider, it was the whole package.

Who saw his umbrella girl? She looked like she could have issues with any other woman holding her hubby's brolly!

You're kidding, right? I guess that's why the top four bikes are Bridgestone shod Ducati's then?
For an example of a rider "lucking in" a championship, see last year.
A rider doesn't dominate and win the title with 3 races remaining on luck!
And its always the whole package, always has been.
How many crashes has Stoner had this year? For a rider who was known as a crasher?? You watched any of the qualifying rounds? Stoner pushes that bike to the absolute max and rides the wheels off the thing, amazing to watch.

Come on gav, we all know that rossi won the championship through luck in 2005 too. Also if lorenzo wins this years 250gp championship its only down to luck. :Punk:

:killingme  Sorry, it was sarcasm.

What do you think of the talk about a spec tire? It doesn't seem to have been a bad thing for WSBK?

Makes me laugh though, all those that complain about the tyre brand domance this year and how it's really made the difference. How many times did you see a red cap being worn on the podium last year? Mitchelin was the dominat tyre last year, but no one complained about that!

sAsLEX

Mitchelin was the dominat tyre last year, but no one complained about that!

That was as they were baking them right there and then depending on the conditions, now they have to plan what tires they will take before the weekend starts...... the rule change affected the reds as well they have just dealt with it better.

Hmmm, tyres ...... While the spec tyre works OK for WSBK, I'd rather not see it introduced in MotoGP. Who would it be, Michelin, Bridgestone, Dunlop, Pirelli, Cheng Shin :shit:.?
I'm not too sure how you can choose tyres before the bikes take to the track. Maybe they could choose tyres after the first days practice? This would be on the Friday night, and the tyres are then in place for the rest of the weekend insluding race day. no flying in special tyres for the race.

... milkybar-kid takes the Championship with four races to go....
don't make him sound better than he is, it was/is 3 races left. :shifty:

there was an element of luck for him tho'; being 4th choice for Ducati after their top 3 choices opted out. in that sense he's lucky.

looking forward to seeing Melandri on the 'sedici!

Again thats a stupid thing to say. Look at where their supposed first choice rider is. He'll kick Melandri's arse next year too.

Again ...
again? what else did i say that was 'stupid'?

dude, all racers have luck; good &/or bad..
read what i said - i included the word "element", ie - some. it wasn't all down to luck cos he & his family did some hard yards...but so have plenty of other young riders.

then again, what would i know? i'm with stupid.

They do call it the lucky country - certainly been pretty good having had Gardner, Doohan and now Stoner.
