Was on my way to work this morning in the pissing rain and had a close encounter with a weird and aggressive biker.

I first pulled up behind him in a queue of traffic. I often move up to the front of the queue at these particular lights but since there was a bus at the front, it was raining, and I hadn't seen where we were in the traffic lights cycle, I decided to stay put. I just kept behind this guy, like I would with any vehicle.

At the green light, we all took off and I kept my usual safe following distance behind the bike, and we continued through several sets of lights like this. Then we got to these particular lights where I prefer to be out of or ahead of all traffic because of roadworks ahead etc. So I switched lanes and went to the front of the left lane (he was in the front of his right lane, next to me).

Somehow this must have offended him because at the lights, we took off in our separate lanes and he suddenly accelerated wildly and pulled straight over to the left in front of me, in my lane, cutting me off.

Whoever this guy was, that was dangerous and stupid. He didn't even have full control of the manoeuvre, nearly losing it in the violence of the swerve and then swerving to correct, compounded by the fact that there was a wandering car ahead that stopped or slowed suddenly and he had to brake too.

I had to resist the urge (and I'm glad I did) to wave at him as I simply switched to the right lane to get out of the situation, and pulled away from him. Never saw him again after that. What a dick.

Recently my flatmate came home ranting about stupid bikers etc. Apparently one passed him on the left hand side of the road and then cut him off, but fell off in the process. Due to him being so close to his car my flattie clipped his bike and the idiot started to abuse him saying it was his fault. Cops came etc and it turns out that the guy was wanted for numerous arrest warrants and even the Cop mentioned that its guys like that who give bikers a bad name

Those dirty f**king locksmiths. They're all terrible drivers -- why can't we deport them back home! Come into our country picking locks left, right and centre like they think they belong here!

Call me a Nazi, but all locksmiths should be locked up.

Sounds like a real dick.

I know what you mean though, the two times I've been closest to falling off were when bikes passed me on my left on a left hand corner going much quicker than me and I didn't even see them coming. :(

I've had a couple of other incidents with bikers just being twats.

In general, though you couldn't want a better group of guys / girls. Such as The Tazman who was a star when stopping to see if I was ok on SH1 when the bike decided it didn't want to go. :niceone:

It's just the odd 1 or 2, but you get that in any group anywhere

Idiots appear in most places and using most forms of transport, fortunately they tend not to last long on motorbikes.
Glad you kept your head and stayed safe, well done and keep it up.

Just as well you had the superior handling of the PGO to accompany your superior skill!

Went and had a look at the 250 in the weekend - the guy said that they only come in one colour, grey. But your is red isn't it?

Yes it's red, very very red! They also come in blue. Did you test ride it?

Yeah I guess no road users have a monopoly on dumbness; it could be anyone, anytime! I can certainly see how important keeping your cool is and what an under-rated or not-so-talked-about skill it is, especially for riding.

We so often focus on the specs and capabilities of the bike and the physical skills of the rider, and some focus on roadcraft or road sense. But emotions play a part (and I say this as a person who often isn't very patient). In the Survival Skills section there is a list of "rules" and one of them is something like to consider not riding if you are sad or mad. Good advice.

Thought i would do the numbers first. Would cost about 3k to change over to the GMax - so still thinking about it. As opposed to my wife who has written off the idea completely:shit:

Oh well - still in dreamland!!
