I filled up the work car last week.
It's a 1999 Commodore Wagon, 3.8litre V6, 126,000 kms, pretty good condition (well serviced).
$97.00. Estimated range according to the instrument panel - 710kms.

Not a V-6 but a Ford six in a BAXR6 and costs a $111 to fill up.....went from oamaru to ch-ch and back with 1/4 of a tank left, about 500km and add a bit of running round in ch-ch.

I had a 5 speed manual '90 something Dunny Door 3.8 litre, which would get around 650km on its 70 litre tank. Compared with my Audi 2 litre which would only ever get around 500km on its 70 litre tank it was pretty economical. A bigger engine doing less work I guess.
(Well, that, and the fact that I drove the Audi a lot more often with my right foot pressed firmly to the floor because it was soooooo much fun to cane)

Only V-6 4lt Ford is the Explorer SUV. The Falcon has been a straight 6 since 1962. Holden has been, (no, not Holden "has been"...), a 3.8V6 until the latest motor a 3.6V6.
Holden has always had the edge in economy being a bit lighter until the current model which gained 100kg mainly due to the new independent rear suspension.
Our Honda Legend 3.5ltV6 should do about 650km per tank. I run it on 98 where available.
(You can ask me anything..):shifty:

My brother has a Commode 3.8 V6. The thing is supposedly very good on gas- not so much around town, but out on the open road its great....probably cause its doing something like 1500rpm at 100k's.
ALLEGEDLY, if you take the inlet manifolds off, there is a removeable restrictor in there somewhere. ALLEGEDLY, Holden put the thing in because the unrestricted engine out performed the 5.0V8

I've got a Holden V6, the new engine.
It uses about 12-14 l per 100km. I'm not very pleased, my old V8 used to do that, and had way more tit.
And the tank is small, so you are being constanly reminded that you need to fill up.
The car is designed by socialists, it beeps if you dont wear your seat belt, it doesn't have a cigarette lighter so you can't plug in your radar detector and no ash trays so you have to flick your ash out the winda.

Had a 96 Holden Wagon. The Missus used to get about 8.8 l/100km out of it on a trip. For me it was about 9.5.
The (old) cast iron Buick derived motor was pretty economical.
The (new) alloy Isuzu derived one is not

4.0l, 1998 EL Falcon low km (85K), with big bore exhaust and extractors and K&N filter and modified intake.
The tank I think is about 65l (say 60l to fill) and my wife will get over 600kms out of it in an open road trip (loaded with the kids etc), so around 10km/l (10l/100kms).
Around town with some stop light racing this will drop to just under 500kms, being around 8.5km/l (11.8l/100km.
Once I did a trip towing a heavy boat full of camping gear and 5 passengers and the fuel light came on at around 400kms (6.5km/l), but I wasn't taking it easy and the roads were up and down.
Overall I think the ecomony is pretty reasonable given the size of car and engine and if driven sensibly. I like it and have owned it for about 5 years, but it is for sale if anyone is interested....

I have a Holden 3.8 ltr supercharged, does 420kms in town, 700 kms on the open road if no more than 110kph, per tank about 60 ltrs.
Air con sucks about 10% of economy, but they can make some ice.
Sorry mis read the thread, I had a 94 VR Acclaim, didn't think it was a gas guzzler at the time, I had a 91 Honda Accord prior but the Acclaim had way more grunt that I was prepared to pay for.
The VS Commodore 95 onwards would have been the most economical, the body weights increased considerably with the 97 VT range.

Considered LPG? The systems are pretty good these days, if you drive a lot it'll pay for itself reasonably quickly.
