View Full Version : Traffic light GP brag

I was stoked a couple of weeks ago when I had the 400 out for one of the first nights I had it because as I was riding home from the pub I met a mates car at the traffic lights!

Now ordinarily this aint a big deal but this time the timing was perfect as we both rolled up to a freshly read light, again not normally all that noteworthy because 400 v Cage off the line = Unfair fight.

What made this incident special was his cage is a wizzbang skankwhistling wagon and he had been bragging out on the piss about how fast it was in the drags and that it does 11 or 12sec 1/4 miles and all sorts - It is a 4wd turbo!
I had to reply with a meek "Mine may do 13 at best"

So after he made sure I was well ready and he uttered "no excuses" we were off as the light changed green and we both launched after the light change. (Lots of people jump 'em off the line)

I gave it all the curry it has and launched well, just keeping the front wheel on the ground up to a hundie kays, after changing to 3rd (at around a hundred) I dared to look sideways - No car.

I looked back and sat up. I could hardly believe how far back he was!

I laughed.

Alot.

We turned around at the next lights and I followed him back to a carpark.

Before I had even stopped rolling the bonnet was up and him and his mate were under there fiddling, "aww man it aint boostin right, not hitting high boost mode, shes only on 9 pound"

I grabbed my external rear preload knob and gave it 3 clicks, "Shit! mine was only on lowboost too, should go heaps better now its cranked up!"

Immense personal entertainment for myself, just thought the need to share.

Oh and the drags at masterton are coming up this summer for a legal proper-timed re match!

Hahaha. It's a crackup, isn't it?

I love it when I have the L-plate on, ancient grubby looking motorcycle, shoulder-satchel full of university textbooks, and some clown in his so-called WRX (really just a stock Impreza with WRX stickers on) starts revving his engine at the lights. Even in my little 250cc single I can get them every time, at least as long as we stay in 50kph zones or 70kph zones  I love the power-to-weight principle

The only time I've been whipped yet was a large Holden HSV-summat. I didn't know those things had decent acceleration? They look too heavy to go very fast.

Mm, enough displacement in a V8 and you can make anything boogie.

The cure for HSV-related embarrassment, however, starts with 'G', ends in 'R', and has an 'S' and and 'X' in the middle.

what amazes me is the number of tossers in cars who actually think they've got a chance

I've had guys try to take me on in a 5 series beemer, an XR6 and a 4wd dohc turbo mazda thing - all of those when I was riding the GPz900

BWAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAA

the XR6 and the beemer were just straight out drags off the lights but the mazda was the funniest....(this is about '93) he had a go on the northern motorway out of chch
I just stayed right next to him and kept looking over at him from the other lane until he had fuck all left (around 180-190kmh) then just wound it on.....:spudwave:

hehe yeah, I was plodding along on a back road going to Palmy when a subaru full of hoodie wearers shot past blasting their horn. I followed em up to about 170-175. The "super turbo bling" subaru was wrung out, blue smoke was pouring out the exhaust. If the road had been longer I would have chased em till they blew the shitter up.

I've also had dickheads think they can beat the rattly pushrodding Guzzi off the lights.
Now it may ONLY have 91hp, but it's fast enough to say "See ya".

And this was in a suburb... pub: so you had been drinking too? Thanks for contributing to the Boy-racing scene....
...if you wanna race cars, go find yourself a illegal drag race scene, where it's far away from the rest of society...

Sorry if I'm completely wrong about this, but it doesn't exactly seem like a smart step forward...

Ya sure are :)

Let me elaborate...

The Pub is the place my mates and I meet on thursdays we dont have other activities arranged for, Its a nice easy central location for us - Drinking is not the reason for going there for us.

I do admit to consuming 2 L&Ps before riding home.

No one was indangered or visibly annoyed by us accelerating away from empty trafic lights on an empty (at the time) motorway.

Neither of us reached "Sir, your licence..." Speed at any point.

I do race cars and bikes legally.

The closest dragracing is at masterton, where any grudge between me and my cager mate will be settled.

There is standing and flying 1/4 miles for bikes on at carterton this sunday *PLUG* www.cliffhanger.org.nz that will give me a proper timed certificate for when I do feel the need to drunkenly prattle on about how fast my bike is! (with the bike safley parked up at home that is)

I think Is Ignorant to associate "Boy racing" With drunk drivers.
(Im not sure you were meaning to, but thats how it may read)

The cops roadblocked a carpark full down the road from out local meeting pub once, tested everyone there driving a car for everything they could and out of several hundred cars about ten had to rip illegally dark tints off, 2 or 3 were too low and NONE of the drivers even had to do the blow into the bag after the initial breath screening test. (that we saw anyway)

Wonder If the breathtest pass rate would be better than outside an upmarket golf club on a sunday afternoon?

Good on for recognising you were probably wrong tho.

Thanks... but I'm not an ex bike rider... the police merely thought it a good idea for me to slow down and look at the world around me before I end up in a morgue

That "elaboration" of the story, as seen versus post #1 makes ALL the difference... :)

If you looked through my previous posts over the last year-and-a-half (when I joined), you would've noticed quite a few "errors of judgement"... my latest being my license being suspended for 6 months and my bike confiscated...

I still trudge along through this site and where necessary and unnecessary add my thoughts at the time.

My reason for adding the Boy-Racing caption to my previous post was merely adding to a recent post about boy-racing of the year 2000+ category of how a lot of the boy-racer types (being hoons and all) drink excessively before getting behind their wheel of execution and instead of using recycle bins like any ordinary person, choose to re-locate their bottles etc against other cars, motorcycles, etc.

Again, as said in the previous post, I'm sorry if I fitted you and your friend into that category...

GO THE BIKES!!! have fun at the drags :D

Oh and just for the record, at the sprints ( www.cliffhanger.org.nz )
The bike managed 205kph top speed and a standing 1/4 in 13.44

That launch felt as good or better than the one from the lights.

timing is everything. nice work man. my personal favourite is when suity types pull up beside you in a brand new Monaro / Falcon / WRX etc, start revving, and you proceed to shit all over them. Heheh, cages... slow..

Most of those cars would kill us 250's, however I do recall a couple attempts by a pulsar and an accord to make a loud whine several hundred metres behind me. The sound of that silly automatic vtec is still vivid in my mind haha
