with 95hours on it... a bottom end was always on the cards and its had the top end done not long ago so itll be a very strong bike when done :)

You will find horror stories about every bike (except honda's ). I personally got warned against Kawasaki's when looking at bikes:argue: Personally I was always going to buy honda because it's in my vains but everyone has their own opinions about bikes. I'd never go anything but red or maybe KTM

SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOo.... is the track day still on or what...? I need to know weather or not to get my stuff ready!

what reason? "dont buy suzuki... they need to be maintained, unlike other bikes" ? haha

Danger
3rd October 2007, 08:19
Guess I must have got a good Suzuki. I've just added up my rides from my Spec Sheets and I've done 52 different events, and I typically ride 3-4 hours a ride and I typically ride hard and mostly in sand, so thats about 182 hours and have not had any trouble what so ever. Guess I should pull that top end sometime, but I'm still to fix my KTM which has done even greater mileage.
Meanwhile my buddies '05 CR250 has done 3 maybe 4 topends that I'm aware off in that time and he does not ride as much or as hard as me. Go figure. And he loves my RM250, reckons its like cheating and would like one as his next bike if he could get the Mr's to give him the go ahead.
My only complaint with the RM is the clutch is not the most consistant and can make getting holeshots tricky. But thats not a big concern to me.

Reckless
3rd October 2007, 08:42
Na I'm not suzuki bashing at all. I'm a Kawasaki man actually. But they where reputed to have lower ends that needed more looking after. And in the 00 to 03 years when I was looking on T/me for something for myself there where a heck of a lot that said they'd had the lower end done when other brands didn't seem to have needed it. Just a rumor i'd heard that seemed to be backed up by the t/me ads.

Yep Danger I agree with you about pistons etc. They say 50 hours for a new piston in a 250 2smoker. Yea right!! Money for the shops!! I did rings in mine at 50hrs just for piece of mind. Piston measured fine. I'll check it at 100 hrs. Done 67 actual hrs now on the Revcounter thingy. But I won't get a complete picture till I start from a new piston and can measure it from new, then at 50 then at 100 and so on. The one thats in there now was in when I bought it. Rings are only $30-00 bucks so not worth not doing while it's apart.
182 hours jeepers i coudn't resist to have a look with those sort of hours on it. But I might be a bit more like your CR mate that has to know everythings ok because I do all my own maintenance. I like my garage time, nice and quiet, no wife, no kids just me and a spanner!

Back on topic! 10am report!

Just called the raceline and looks like Ardmore is on at this stage from 4 till 8pm.
Here in Howick (15mins from Ardmore) we've had some pretty heavy rain so far this morning. So not sure with my work pressure if I'll go out! I'll make my final decision based on the days weather this arvo about 2 or 3.

Danger
3rd October 2007, 08:56
Yeah any spare time that I get to work on my own bikes goes into the suspension and testing different setups. If I was racing seriously the topend would be apart more. But my friends top end gets done because it has had to be done.
And yes the pre '05 RM's were a different animal. Suzuki really upped their game in recent years. Honda didn't just drop the ball, they threw their ball away.
One thing I don't like on the '05-07 CR250's is the footpeg relationship. Way to forward and this results in a cramped riding style for me, and I'm not a big guy although I do have long arms for my height ha ha!

cheese
3rd October 2007, 10:38
Yeah I heard that in 05 the RMs changed alot. I ended up going Honda for the Alloy frame though. It was a big draw card for me. I think that I looked at all the options and rode alot of bikes. I loved the CRF250 I had a go on, but wouldn't like to be paying someone else to fix it for me.

Its funny what you say about teh 05 CR's, I rode Boooms and it felt totally different. I also rode WRT's 01 and that felt really weird. I found that Booooms felt much more forward positioned and I felt like I was going to go over the bars. Mine has after market tripple clamps so maybe they adjust the angle? I also have risers and fat bars so maybe that makes a difference too. WRTs felt like riding a 125 in comparison. No bottom end and heaps at the top! My bike seems like a 4 stroke tractor in comparison to most other 2 strokes I've ridden.

Cheese MY 01 tractors from real low as well. Depends mainly on the gearing. 14-50 rather than 13 on the front. Jetting and fly wheel makes a difference as well. We should swap for a lap or two next time.

Armore today?? Its pissing down here and I have heaps of work so will give it a miss today! Have fun if you go!

B0000M
5th October 2007, 10:58
bathurst, either holden or ford will win, both will still be slow, and until they allow someone other than themselves to race, im not interested in it. bikes are much cooler.

its like saying we are going to race XR400s vs XT400s, in a race that only allows those two bikes, then whatever one wins MUST BE the worlds most bestist bike ever because it won bathurst, meanwhile theres much better bikes out there, but the rules dont allow an actual fast machine.

[end rant]

Hey Boooom, I kinda agree with you...... I work in the pits at international events (Rally and Track Services) and we did the Aussie V8s at Puke (will be involved at Hamilton and A1GP too). It would be interesting to see what would happen if they opened it up ,although I think the costs would escalate. The formula does work well at the moment and I'm amazed at what some of the teams can do with so little money....The V8s are very much like a Hollywood set, not much behind the facade.....A bunch of people enjoying themselves, like us at Ardmore, but on a bigger scale..

Roll on Bathurst................... :woohoo:

B0000M
5th October 2007, 15:45
lol, come on, it only took holden or ford like 9 years to beat the skyline's lap time.....

the difference between us at ardmore and bathurst tho, is half of nz and oz dont watch us and then a percentage of them dont go and buy whatever bike won the race....

would be interesting to see if they got a whole lot of different cars in the mix, with say the same horsepower range (150hp isnt it?) and see how they go then, large family cars and race cars are two completely different things.

Only 9 years!! Your not trying to compare an open class 4wd turbo to a 2wd V8 with restricted tyres, brakes, and engine are you!!!! Shit if they put that drive train in the V8's they'de have blown that lap time in 9 minutes!

Na! The holden Vs Ford battle is great! Its "downunder" ethos. Gives us identity like the BMW, Jag, Audi battle in British touring cars.

Long may it continue!!

GO Holden!!

I actually had a brand new XR6 for a week when I was in the south island a few months back which I fanged the hell out of and they have actually improved quite alot from previous models i've driven, they dont stake up to lightweight jappers but for what they are they are not to bad.
