View Full Version : Mrs Oakie's bike stolen today. Eyes out... (28 September)

Oakie

Can't believe it. Mrs Oakie's EL250 Eliminator has just been stolen from Palms in Christchurch. It was seen being loaded onto a beaten up blue and white van, probably a Nissan, rego LD7712. Unsure what Mrs Oakies bike's rego is as I'm at work but will advise.
If anyone sees this van around can you let Central Police in Christchurch know.

Cheers guys

Oh, man, that sucks!
I can imagine how Mrs Oakie feels right now.
I hope her baby comes back soon, undamaged, of course!

I really hate people who can't keep their filthy thieving mitts off other people's stuff!

Stripped for parts. Once stripped, it is impossible to identify which bike the parts came from, and can be sold anywhere (ebay, tardeme)

But so many have been going missing... all over the place... surely they wouldnt get that much stripping them all down to 'parts'... trademe etc... it is too easy to put 1 & 1 together... right??
*scratches head*... or maybe not...

maybe we need to post a thread with details of all stolen bikes... there may be a seller selling parts that match the types of bikes on the list??...

I really feel for those unfortunate enough to have their bikes stolen...

the scum thats doing it needs to be caught... !!!

Thanks for that. I've left a message at the Oxford Police Station. I'll let them deal with it.
There was a witness to the abduction who said two big scary looking guys just picked the bike up and threw it into the back of the van. She knew something was wrong because she reckoned the owner wouldn't treat their bike like that. She didn't feel safe to confront them though so she went and told security.

Sorry to hear this news Mrs O.

I do hope that the small leads in all this all contribute to u getting ur baby back in one piece. No-one likes to see anybody's bike stolen. I enjoyed reading all the happenings in the forum way back when u were embracing riding and then searching for a bike and finally finding the one that suits u.

All the best with getting it back.

I use steering lock and always assume that is good enough - maybe it isn't

There's some shithouse pricks out there

Shame Mrs O

But in all honesty, the bike is highly unlikely to be at the quoted address but in saying that the resident is liable to know where it is (most likely still within the city limits). And in reality if the bike is retrieved in one piece you really wouldn't want to have it again coz god knows what sort of treatment would have been dealt out to it.

Easy place to find though

OK
I'm impressed with the Police. They haven't found the bike but the Oxford cop had been advised and had already visited the address late this afternoon before I left the message. Unfortunately the guy has moved to Christchurch and they don't know where. Good to know that the police were so on the ball though when they're so stretched down here with other things.

Anyhow, thanks for all your support guys. It is appreciated and really means a lot to both of us. :grouphug:

Probably too late for the wee Eliminator now but please feel free to advise the Police or drop me a PM should you happen to see that vehicle as I'm sure he'll be looking for other bikes. Described as a rough looking blue and white Nissan van, rego LD7712.

Cheers

Not secured but short of actually chaining it to an immoveable object, it doesn't sound like it would have made a difference. Perhaps if it was too heavy to be lifted it may have been OK. Guess I'm just going to have to get her a Harley!

29th September 2007, 18:24
Update. Nothing much really.
The police have been good. They rang Mrs Oakie 3 times last night to keep her up to date with what was happening. They had an idea where the bike may have been and were going to go around and 'visit' last night if they had time but they became involved with a couple of firearms incidents which understandably get priority. Their last phone call indicated that they suspected the bike to be at an address in Hornby area and the matter was to be handed off to the local station to deal with depending on their workload this morning. Sadly we've heard nothing and are now almost resigned to not getting the bike back. As I type this, Pina Coladas are softening the blow (now that we have the recipe right ... yummeeee!)

Mrs Oakie recovers well though and she's already got her eye on a couple of replacements ... and yes, one is an Eliminator. The other is a Kwaka ZR250 Balius ... a naked inline 4. (nooo....not to be confused with a naked 'inline four' as that just does not bear thinking about).

We'll post up here if anything else comes to light regarding the thieving bastard too.

Oh, the cops said they do have surveillance footage of it happening so I might see if I can get hold of an image and do something 'creative' with it like selling the rights to smashing the guys fingers on Trade Me. Might get the $250 to cover the insurance excess. :shifty:

No happy endings yet. I think that the best we can hope for is that they catch the guy eventually for something else and he gets to face charges for this at the same time. On the other hand, the insurance pay-out will be about double of what she would have got as a trade in at upgrade time next year so perhaps overall it'll finish up saving us money. 'Silver lining' anyone?

That the spirit, keep looking on the bright side.
I hope you find a nice bike soon.

Some things in life are bad
They can really make you mad
Other things just make you swear and curse.
When you're chewing on life's gristle
Don't grumble, give a whistle
And this'll help things turn out for the best...

And...always look on the bright side of life...
Always look on the light side of life...

If life seems jolly rotten
There's something you've forgotten
And that's to laugh and smile and dance and sing.
When you're feeling in the dumps
Don't be silly chumps
Just purse your lips and whistle - that's the thing.

And...always look on the bright side of life...
Always look on the light side of life...

For life is quite absurd
And death's the final word
You must always face the curtain with a bow.
Forget about your sin - give the audience a grin
Enjoy it - it's your last chance anyhow.

So always look on the bright side of death
Just before you draw your terminal breath

Life's a piece of shit
When you look at it
Life's a laugh and death's a joke, it's true.
You'll see it's all a show
Keep 'em laughing as you go
Just remember that the last laugh is on you.

And always look on the bright side of life...
Always look on the right side of life...
(Come on guys, cheer up!)
Always look on the bright side of life...
Always look on the bright side of life...
(Worse things happen at sea, you know.)
Always look on the bright side of life...
(I mean - what have you got to lose?)
(You know, you come from nothing - you're going back to nothing.
What have you lost? Nothing!)
Always look on the right side of life...

only took me and my mate to lift my softail into a back of a van.... we were careful and even then it was pretty quick - lowered the bars, front end then the back, sidestand down and i sat in the back holding it.

i never lock my bikes when i go out but i think maybe i should at the rate bikes are getting nicked but as u said unless its to an immoveable object there isnt much point

I think it's now a matter of finding out where the registered owner of that van is living ... that is assuming that he was even the culprit. just caught some C*%TS stealing my bike!!!

I am so angry... !! they've damaged it too... flatmate didnt get rego of the car or trailer... but thank god she was up early to go to work, bike was about 20m down the rd, they were loading it up!!...

OMG! That's horrible! Well I mean it's horrible they were stealing it, but great your flatmate managed to stop them. Looking forward to a full description of the offending people & vehicle.

"coming to a computer screen near you ... the face of a bike thief".

Excellent. The result is likely to be very entertaining. We live in a small country - they can run but they can't hide. :nono:

Briefly:
>Search warrant issued, still waiting results, (can't say too much here)
>We have blurry security photos of the bad guys driving away in their van.
>Insurance claim still being processed and is waiting for the police report,
>Stuff the insurance ... we bought Mrs Oakie a replacement bike on Saturday morning anyway. (CB250 Jade ... inline 4 ... handles really nicely and sounds like a sewing machine on steroids)
>Happiness has returned to the house of the Oakies.

All good and well, congrats on new bike to stable (why, it's the forerunner to my own little ol'hornet!) :niceone:

Let's hope some positive action comes through about the ratbags who theft the original ride! :angry2:

Once again I can't give too many details out on a public forum at this stage but I can say that a search warrant was executed today which resulted in the chassis (and nothing else) of Mrs Oakie's Eliminator being found in a garage. The fella has been arrested and will be spending a nice quiet night in a small room before appearing in court tomorrow. He is expected to be remanded to appear next Friday. The police are searching for a couple of other people but, yeah, I can't say too much on here in case they check out this site.
I'd love to get down to the court tomorrow to eyeball him but I've got too much on at work. Hopefully I can get down next week for the hearing but on top of everything else, I don't really want to waste a whole day of annual leave on the mongrel.
The other good news we got today was that Swann Insurance have accepted the claim and will be paying out around what we expected to be paid in a few days. We lose our no claims bonus on top of excess and unpaid monthly premiums but the police have asked us to quantify those losses and they will try for reparation from the evil-doer. Of course we only get money if he has money but to be honest in lieu of that, I'd be quite satisfied if he had to spend a wee bit of time in jail and came out with a sore bum!

It's been a good day!

Good stuff, Oakie. And at least you are not left 'wondering' who, what, where....

Good one Oakies!!:headbang::woohoo:

But if it was me I'd still want a lot of pain to be inflicted on the theiving cretins that took the bike...

Good news, and on the positive side - there must be some of those ever-so-hard-to-get EL250 parts out there for other Eliminator owners.

Well I'm not really a 'pain' person. Mental anguish is more my style. I thought a couple of weeks back that it might be fun to cruise slowly past his house on the odd 'Cruisy Wednesday Ride' with a bunch of other KBers in tow ... just to let him know we care ... like.

Sweet news in some respects that insurance came through and the scrote has been caught, shame that he nicked the bike in the first place. Shame that there is no way to ensure that the retard can not ever do this trick again, are the police keeping an eye this chaps recent trademe activity?

are the police keeping an eye this chaps recent trademe activity? Good thought. I wonder how you'd find out if he had an account.

I would think if the cops searched his house the could have seized his computer for further searching, that would be a good start for them, that is if the rectum orifice has the intelligence to operate a computer.

Hi glad to hear it all turned out for you guys.
I have a query? You didn'y say how the cops finally tracked him down but reading between the lines he wasn't using his own bloody van was he!!!

I know you're taking the piss.

But if you create a market for stolen parts, the bad guys just steal more bikes to meet the demand.

at least they got the bastard, but its a sad end to Mrs O's pride and joy, I'd be devastated.
Still she has a new toy now, so its all good... but a bit of time in the slammer wouldn't be a bad thing for the toerag

What a fucking jack ass!!!!!!!!!! Even a bit of tape would have solved that one!
Typical! no brains, no conscience, no sense of right and wrong, maybe his parents need to be charged as well! That might stop the cycle.

And big ups to the police :Police: sounds like they did a great job, kept you informed and did everything possible. They are often smashed on this forum (and others) - but here is proof that they DO go ofter the scum!

Glad that it worked out as well as possible for you given the circumstances.

Yeah they did a great job. I guess that having a rego and the security footage gave them at least a starting point instead of what they probably usually get which is "err I think someone stole my bike, can you find it please". So big thanks to the witness who bothered to get involved in the start and big thanks to the police for acting on the info they received.
