The decision has been made and the new bike is in the garage with 245kms on the odometer.
After contemplating for a few weeks what bike and more importantly what type of bike would I replace the SV1000S with I have bought a Triumph Speed Triple 1050 in black. I had been thinking of a sports tourer, something with a fairing, and toyed with the idea of a Blackbird and for 5 seconds the Hayabusa. I observed with interest the decision made by BuckBuck#1 to go naked with the Hornet and his logic for this type of bike.
When I analyzed the riding I do it was obvious that I have no need for a tourer as I am a fair weather rider and will do few rides involving overnight away from home. My weekend day rides involve hills, corners, a few blasts and coffee stops. I also wanted a bike that could stooge around town - something I had difficulty doing on the SV. The ideal bike for me seemed to be a hooligan bike. After reading all the reviews Google could serve up, riding very few and then considering price the Speed Triple was my winner.
So I bought it and will love it - she is my new mistress.

A bit of kerosene cleaned it up. Must have been packaging coating to protect the oil cooler. When the bike heated up this crap oozed out and got blown along the motor. Actually there is packaging grease all over the bike including on the bolts holding the front disks and this has spun out onto the disks.

Never mind, you came so close to making the right choice- the red F800S sitting a few bikes along in the showroom! Just kidding. I've often been tempted to go the Speed Triple way myself
I think I saw you once, maybe twice today. I was doing some mentoring in the J/vill- Titahi Bay area in the morning then I went over the hill early afternoon.
Enjoy the new ride.

Nice bike.
I see the latest BIKE magazine here has very complimentary things to say about the Street Triple, the new 675 equivalent of the Speed Triple. The 675 is very very similiar in appearance and even after allowing for their Brit bike bias it looks to be a cool bike.

I have installed a basic grill to both from mesh I obtained from Super Cheap Autos to fit to the SV. If something better is available I might buy that.

Just put 600+ kms on her today and she is running sweet. Seat has to be replaced though and I plan to have a Rider seat within a couple of weeks. I got a Service Manual off someone on that site.
