The XV starter motor is one of those truely legendary design disasters. The XV750 motor is a marvel of design in every other facet except the bloddy starter, that's why they are largely unchanged in the 20+ years they have been making them. But in answer to your familia plea for help, your best bet is to buy a replacement starter off ebay, for around the $200 mark including shipping I believe. Look for a four pole starter as they start better I'm told. There are plenty of discussions here on other starter problems and a few of us who have found solutions to them. With ebay remember to sort out the shipping cost before you bid, and also make sure they will ship to NZ!

Try Buckets N Bits in Wellington. He can be a fraction prickly, but normally has what you need.
