It's Wellington. You get used to it after a few decades. Guess I'll have to clean the bike again tonight.

I rode today, just before the rain started, wasn't that bad. Now the ride back will be interesting.

just have to be ready for the wind trying make you change lanes when you dont want to. And I always prefer getting wet going home than turning up at work like a drowned rat.

Used to not have a cage and ride to work every day. You have my both my admiration and my sympathy.

#1 HTFU. If you can't cope ditch the bike.

#2 If you get to work looking like a "drowned rat" you probably need to buy some decent gear. I get to work drier than those who park their car and walk to work.

#3 Sympathy? I don't need no steekin' sympathy.

Wind is dropping in Petone now but the rain is coming. Rather ride in the rain than the wind

Well no matter how good your riding kit and what i have is pretty good quality Goretex kit, water will always get in generally at points where it all fits together or in contact with you ie, neck, wrists etc, and crease points ie elbows, knees etc. So generally light to medium rain i will be dry, torrential rain i 'll be glad i have spare shirt, trousers and socks at work.

Sympathy no thanks, i'll personally take the rough with the smooth and get some sort of perverse enjoyment out of riding the bike rain or shine, although frost and snow is another matter.

I commute in Draggin' jeans and I have Spool over trousers that keep my legs dry. My Oxtar TCS boots do not leak, in even the most hideous weather. My Clover T2 (Cordura/Goretex) doesn't leak either. The only thing that gets wet are my hands, but that is only if I spend more than an hour in torrential rain at 100 km/hr.

If your Goretex stuff is leaking it needs a wash in Nikwax Tech Wash to restore the breathable membrane to a functional state.

Lynda and I rode from Auckland to Napier to Wellington (736kms) yesterday avoiding any rain and wind. It was delightful...we had a great ride...until we got to Masterton at about 7pm.
From there on "pleasant" is not a word I'd use to describe the journey, but to impress Jim2 I have to say we are hardened bikers and we came through the last 60kms bone dry even if the gusts over the hill were a wee bit disconcerting.

I went for a ride over the hill and back around 1730 and it was pretty interesting then, I live up towards "the hill" and the wind and rain got worse as the night wore on, at one stage it was raining so hard our downpipes to the water tanks couldn't handle it and were just spilling straight onto the ground

Hmm, I'm a wee bit late for this thread, but I commute Hutt to City every day regardless. Never had weather bad enough to stop me. Sure you gotta be pretty cautious sometimes but if you let bad weather stop you riding in Welly then you're going to spend a lot of time in a cage.
