Why hasn't someone invented some kind of kevlar bodysuit that you could wear under whatever street clothes you want? So instead of buying several sets of expensive bike gear, you just buy one set of undies and put your normal jeans/ jacket/ skimpy skirt on over the top. It could have pockets for removable armour too.

Or has this already been invented? If so, where do I get some?

Hmm... that would be cool! If it protected you enough and was breathable I'd certainly get one, provided it was affordable lol.

Yes, on telly last week, stab proof vest as thin as a cotton singlet, looked like it just wouldn't cut through, bruising not so sure.
Not costed for the masses (or minions) yet.

Yep that's the stuff, I used to see that advertised in the US bike mags when I bought the occasional one.

It must be about a year since, so it's about time to buy another.

Bike gear should be strong, protective, and when worn by cute girls, easily removable :chase:

One of the better ones out there. At least you don't need to wear anything over the top. Ive seen it as low as $209.00USD

I agree. Especially being kinda girlie-shaped and with that gear looking kinda boy-shaped... Does anyone stock this stuff in NZ?

I dont think its stocked in NZ. They sell off their site though, and they were good about getting back to me when I enquired, but I ended up getting a set of leathers made instead. I am hell keen to see it if someone does get some in though..

The only thing with that Bohn Armour is that aside from the protection, it is lycra!

There is no protection for your skin which is rather important if you are sliding down the road.......

Kerry on K Road, Motorcycle Safetywear mentioned to me once that she probably could reinforce jeans with leather and armour and stuff if you wanted, that could be an option???

You want the type of armour that sculpts your podgy beer damaged bodies and makes you stand out of the crowd.

Leather is Soooooo last year!

http://www.hellenic-art.com/armour/bodyarmour.htm

It also comes in Chrome for those Cruiser types.

This is the future!

Problem with these type of armor shirts etc is that they give no abrasion protection. I have a set of the T Pro armor shirt and pants which I wear beneath some mesh gear for summer touring. It fits well enough and it gave me much more cooling than any other riding gear.

If my calculations are correct, the pants would cost less than a pair of Draggin Jeans to the tune of some $45.00.

They answer a slightly different question but would seem viable price wise.

As to what they look like, they are supposed to be form of underwear which usually has a limited audience, and hopefully a time of your choosing...

"The Airtex Shirt is made from a ventilated material similar to that of basketball vests. We now have a great stretch mesh which works nearly as well as the lycra in the Europe Shirts"

Are you REALLY sure you wish to buy into this?
(Sounds like a 'Pile of Pooh' to me).

No matter how much armour it has, it is held in place by stretchy Lycra.
When you hit the deck and roll along, then the friction of the multiple impacts will cause the armour to move!!!

I would imagine that it MAY protect you on your 1st impact, after then? I seriously doubt it will be of value?

Leathers need to be a snug fit to keep the protection IN-PLACE!

Maybe the armour is to protect us from the not so cute guys? :dodge:

As for protective gear, well my dress sense is terrible anyway, and at least leather gives me an excuse for looking stupid

Please read my previous post.
It will only protect you from the 1st fumble, then the stretchy lycra will allow the armour to be bypassed.

Alpinestars makes armoured undies but there expensive. you could do what i did and go to a snow/ski shop and buy some impact shorts, there is a huge demand for them in that industry, so a lot of compitetion means cheap.

That T Pro armour is what kerrie at MSW is using now. It looks excellent (Im thinking seriously about one of their back protectors). If I ever have to use it, I will report in full.

I second that. Lycra is no alternative even with armour. I've seen too many road rash pictures to even contemplate it.
