Tying down a bike?

Can someone tell me what's the best way to tie down a sports bike on to a trailer to move it safely?

Use a handlebar bra (yes its real and no its not a pisstake) then 2 good quality tiedowns to a point as wide and forwards as possible on the trailer.

Is this actually a ladies bra, or is it some sort of motorcycle tie-down nicknamed handlebar bra?

I got a handle bar bra to hold the race bike down, and ended up tossing it into the corner of the garage.

By far the easiest way I have found to tie the bike down is one tie down attached to each fork leg just above the lower triple clamp, going down to a point on the trailer that will keep the tie downs away from paint work.

Having said that - I have a dedicated bike trailer that I built with several tie down points on the front of it.

I also run a tie down from side to side going through the rear wheel, there are no sides on the trailer which makes this quite easy, otherwise one over the seat (with a towel or something to protect it) is more than good enough to stop the bike jumping around.

Whether you tie down from the lower triple clamp or the bars, it pays to ensure that the front wheel can not move sideways. It will try to at some stage, no matter how tight the straps are.

Heres one with pretty pictures. It has the right idea, sort of. The front tie downs should go to the triple clamp, so you can load the front suspension up. If you have fairings, you will have to fiddle it a bit to get the angles right on the front end.

Yup I agree....post # 12 was the one I followed in that thread to get my bike home...all 400km...without a hitch (except the trailer hitch...bad pun)
