Seems to be a bit of this going on, GAH what's up with that!
Glad to hear the bike got save, bugger it was slightly damaged as a result.

Yep it's pretty sad that bikers have to be more careful with security or their baby gets pinched.

We'll make sure the new property in Invervegas has ample garage space (seen a few online with 4 car garages), one of our family cages always got relegated to the street, we'd rather the bikes were all safe and out of the elements anyday.

God damn, that sucks!

Amazing luck catching them, well done that flatmate!

There's not a lot you can do to stop your bike being picked up and carried away other than locking it in a garage or chaining it to something secure. I had a mate steal my FXR as a prank that way once. He and another guy just carried it over the road and hid it...

I recommend a sturdy bike-lock chain through the frame and/or wheel, secured to something that isn't removeable.

It's a pain in the arse, but worth doing if you must park your bike outside.

If my bike was at my house it would be inside the garage!!! & my area is a hell of a lot safer than this one!!...

Have oxford lock, the cable one with key... I bought it over from home as I was getting paranoid about my bike being here while fireball uses it, over a week ago!!... this morning once I got bike back up the rd I told her that is why I bought the lock over... to chain it to up to something!!...

nothing more I could have done...

Errm, but she wasn't riding it. Your bike was parked at her house - quite legal - when it was stolen.

Do you have theft cover? Wouldn't hurt to see if it is covered.

Taz
6th October 2007, 11:39
Why does it take something like this for all you peeps to realize that locking the bike is a must. It may only slow them down or force them to make more noise. But it's a start. Also keep the bike out of sight.

fireball
6th October 2007, 11:44

Do you have theft cover? Wouldn't hurt to see if it is covered.

I dont... I was to get warrant today (expired yesterday) cant now, & get forms resent for insurance as I had them sent out not so long ago but never sent them back as I went overseas just after I got them n I also dont know where the vin/engine/chassis numbers etc are...

So yes it is my own fault I am not covered... :stupid: the amount it is going to cost to fix is less than the excess would be... so doesnt really matter... I had been hassling fb to get licence so when I get new forms she can be a named rider of my bike. I did not see any point in doing it before hand as I am not riding it n it at the mo... stupid I know... *Shakes head*... learnt my lesson now obviously!!

I still pissed off that people steal things that are not theirs... thats the lowest of the low... I work hard to earn my money n have never stolen a thing in my life... yet others just trott around stealing peoples possesions?!?... no fkn morals..!!

going to pickup bike in about ten mins, just got home in my car. Calling insurance place shortly :mobile: to get new forms & mum has said we'll take bike to mechanics on monday & get him to find the numbers etc as fairings n stuff prob need to come off to locate them?!... & he will write the digits down for me n also take off the broken front part so can get new one on asap.

No-one was riding it so licence doesn't matter, even if your the owner and you don't have one. As it's on private property not the road it shouldn't even need WOF and Rego. Your insurance is paid up for theft? and someone tried to steal it and broke it? insurance'd up dood.

edit... So you don't have insurance. Harsh, make it into a streetfighter! Don't buy more bits, sell some you don't need now and get some engine work done.

What a crappy thing mate! A few years a go I had a car parked outside my house and my neighbour disturbed someone trying to ........bump start an auto car! This about 9:30ish Sunday nite, have a cop lives at the top of my road, ring the cops and they say too late to do anything, even though we had description of bloke and the car he left in, got told to report it to the station in the morning. I did and guess what? Someone else had reported an attempt on the theft of their car about 15mins prior to me, and best/worst of all about 20 mins later one was stolen!!! We live in a small town and there is no time for the cops to deal with "petty" crime...they could have caught this prick easy, there are not too many places to hide in Warkworth!.....LOL

Glad you still have your baby, albeit damaged, is there a ramp up to your house? If not make one, wheel the sucker inside and be done with it!

I know if your bike gets targeted you can't do a whole heap about it, especially if you don't have a lock up garage or shed etc. We just moved and I haven't liked having my bike sitting in the drive just waiting for some kids with a skateboard to roll off with it (and am guessing no-ones gonna target Hyosungs?) Have made an anchor I can bolt the bike too for a bit of piece of mind. Was gonna use stainless bolts and chain but 1) want them for something else and 2) it will be easyier to grind the normal coachbolts flat what we move, buggered if I spend a grinding disc and a couple of hours on SS ones! Also means that with a $2 shop tie-down I can hoist the rear wheel off the deck easy peasy to clean/wax the chain.

Arnt those wire cables really easy to saw through with a hack saw. Ie they can be cut in under a minute or two?

Pancakes
24th October 2007, 23:51
Nup. you can cut them but it's a bitch. The cables mash up in bolt cutters too. The esiest point to hit would be the chain but this isn't bulletproof, it's a $3 5 minute job that'll deter opportunists. Soon there will be a mercury switch and wire loop hooked up to a battery backed up car horn. Tilting the bike up or unplugging/cutting the little wire will set the horn off and with the right relay it will stay on! That'll have them running, when the bikes here I'm home anyway but will all help I guess.

It depends on the type of anchor - some commercial ones are designed to be bolted to a concrete floor using appropriately secure fasteners. But a ground anchor can be anything securely fixed to the ground that you can secure your bike to. A large boulder, dead car/bike, a building, telephone pole, meteorite, comatose overweight drunken politician, 1970s hard-drive, the engine block from a Harley Davidson, a ship's propeller, a power pylon, Waiheke Island, a dead parrot, a sleeping gang member....
The possibilities are endless.

I use coachbolts cos of the dome tops, no hex for putting a spanner on, not that a spanner would move them. Get a masonry bit and drill a snug hole so the bolts need to be hammered in. Drill no deeper than the bolt are long. These are 65mm bolts so over 55mm is in the concrete. I used concrete and steel compound but most 2 pack epoxy glues will be fine. Get all the dust out by blowing through some oxy tube, try not to dribble in the hole. Make up the glue and suck it into a syringe (or straw if your a cheap-ass), get it into the hole. Tap the bolt in 10mm at the most then add little bits of the rest of the glue all up and down the sides of the bolt as you tap it in the rest of the way. It'll be fricken strong!!

Ideally use stainless for a more permanent anchor.

why wuld u lock it...i thought all u westies had guns.

Yeah but we only have the guns out when we've been drinking so whether it's to open the gunsafe or aim half-cut we need something to slow them down a bit. Drunk westies v.s kids on P what an un-fair fight, it's like slow-motion land! the matrix, I need all the help I can get!
