My mate picked up a new GPX250R today and asked me to ride it home for him. This is his first bike and I believe he couldn't have made a better choice. All I can say is what a neat little bike! and a steal at $5999. I hadn't ridden one of these since the early 90's.
Here's a pic.

If I was in the market for a 250 this would be the one i'd get. Much better a new bike at 5999 than a 15 year old inline 4. A 250 is only a stepping stone to see out your license period IMO. Hell back in the dim dark days I started on a Honda C50. Even toured on it. Learners have it good these days.

Yup, the only thing better is a 1990's GPX for half that price! Because, like you said, it is but a stepping stone after all :)
Was in motohaus talking to kerry the other day, he asked if I still had the gpx, I said yep, he said a guy with over 200,000km on his 1989 gpx came in, and it was still going strong. Great bikes, especially for learning on, save all that IL4 stuff for when you take the training wheels off.
