View Full Version : Engine stalling mid-ride

Hey all.
I've recently had a string of instances where my fxr150 will stall the engine while cruising along. Normally I can just restart the engine via the electric starter and it'll come back to life happily.
Last night it decided not to. Now I can't get either the electric starter or the kick starter to get the engine going again. From the sounds of it, the engine is turning but not catching (is igniting the right word to use here?)

I've had it suggested that it might be the spark plug, and I'm about to head of to try that, but does anyone have any idea of what it could be if not that?

I've recently replaced the battery (about 2-3 weeks ago) though I'm not sure if the bike is charging it properly, as sometimes it will start no worries, but other days the electric start won't do anything.. (not sure if that could be connected, so I'm mentioning it anyway)

Anyways, hope that's not too much of a jumble to read, and thanks in advance for your advice

Checking your spark plug is a good place to start. With the ignition on, crank the bike while the spark plug is connected, but resting on the metal of the engine. You should see a nice blue spark.

Places to start if you don't see a spark...

Check battery connections - if they are not tight odd stuff happens
Check kill switch, and sidestand switch
Check ignition switch

Thanks for the advice. :)
We switched the spark plug out (it turns out it needed changing anyway) and on the way discovered that it was actually the spark plug cable (loose wiring had an intermittent connection to the plug).. so all fixed and sounding a lot better!
