View Full Version : Manawatu: Sat 13 October, Wellington roadtrip

We need to head to Wellington to pick up one of Mellissa's new NC30's so, as Cowboyz suggested, its road trip time. Guess we all meet up in Palmy somewhere then head off to wellington via and way you want (open to suggestions), pick her bike up, then head (again) anywhere you want. One issue will be pillioning her down to wellington though...

Link to calender entry http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/calendar.php?do=getinfo&e=1407&day=2007-10-13

Rough plan, open to tweaking:
Palmy crowd meet at BP Linton at 8.45am, leaving at 9am
Ride to Levin via Shannon, fuel stop if needed at the Levin BP
Ride to paekaks - Haywards Hill - Hutt Motorway - Lower Hutt City.
Me, Mellissa and who ever peel off to collect the NC30 from somewhere in the city while everyone else grabs fuel and food somewhere in the city thats easy to find and get in and out of. Perhaps meet back up at the River Bank Carpark (its the one on the right as you cross Melling Bridge over the Hutt river and into Central Lower Hutt). If you get lost every boyracer and most cops know where it is... lol, think "The Fast & The Furious" style mass park ups on a Thursday night - 250+ cars!!! Empty during the day on a weekend though so a good easy to find place to regroup.
Meet back up, then head back via either Greys bay, or Paekak hill or the evil Akatawara rd.
Then home. BBQ, drinks and war stories

Changes?

Sounds like a plan .. can either meet in shannon or Levin .. ohh wot part of welly & does paecock hill fit into the plans

think its upperhutt and open to any routes. Paekak is now speed restricted to 70kph so its be a cruise through there, as since lowering th speed limit, a ton more cyclists are using it.

Will see if I can get the speedo on the monster sorted by the weekend. Might get the mrs to climb on the back since the pace will not be blistering. Will be my first ride with a pillion and her first time on the back of the Duc... I will get my A into G on the speedo thing.

bloody hell...dont say that....he'll have to replace the suspension on the kwaka to handle the extra weight of his head

damn, since i missed out last weekend i might have to sneak along on this one (assuming i get the RF's brakes sorted out in time)

might even bring the VFR just for a laugh if i've got the front calipers back together

fyi....had a report from roger_doger on his new/old VFR today - he rode it back from Hamilton to Palmy last night, set a healthy pace by all accounts (and those of you who know him, know what a roger_doger healthy pace is!)....overall he's pretty impressed I think, sounds like it runs well and handles nicely too...but then we all knew it would, it's a honda!!

No, no... I just want to be behind him when he washes the front again... I was too far behind last weekend to see it happen. If I watch him do it, I'll never need to try it myself and save some skin, gear and fairings in the process.

So are you volunteering to double Lis, Cowboyz?

If you dont want to then she can jump on back of the 9. Or she can ride your cbr down there and you jump on back of the 9. Either or is good for me. I coming back this side as I have to be back before 3pm. And with recent events fresh in mind I wont be breaking the sound barrier on the highway. No guarentees about the 70km/hr limit on piecock hill though.

Almost! I've done 6000 kms on it and I'd say I may get another 1000. Not too bad considering. I think I'll try Pilot Road 2's next time tho, judging by Cowboyz one. That's lasting really well and I really can't afford new tyres every few weeks lol.

They flogged me a pair of SBS sintered pads, quoted me $65 a side on the phone, got there and I line up Paul to do the deal as he quite often will do me a bit of a deal.
Looked around while I was there as you do and picked up some Maxima chain wax which was priced at $16, Thought right, that'll be $146 all up, Paul said that'll be $106 and I said "sweet" and kept my mouth shut from then on.:2thumbsup

I'll probably be with you mate. Unless the weather is really bad I'd like to head back via the wairarapa. Quite keen to check out that cafe too.

Out of interest, how fast DO you guys go on the main roads? Hoping I won't get left behind. I've trained myself to behave (nothin over 110) on the main roads. Couple of painful tickets. Of course I have fun on the backroads...

Speaking of weather, the report looks OK so far... Late afternoon showers on the Manawatu/WLG side, possibly windy in the Wairarapa. Could be worse :)

The $64 million dollar question. how fast do we REALLY ride? The truth is it depends who has lead and their mindset at the time.
Somewhere between 115-215km/hr. Usually around the 120-130k for the longer, more main roads.
There has been plenty of voice around slowing down on the main roads and it should be taken heed really. I wont be doing anything over 120 on the main roads after last weekends encounter.

damn brilliant ride Jodi & I were waiting at Mobil then Garry H rolled up to say the others were still waiting at Linton .. 10 mins later cowboyz, Yod (both 2 up wit lisylu & Michelle rocked on up) then Lee & Karen & Sly rocked on up .. sat around & waited for Sarge but he had text saying he will catch up ..

so off we rocked pretty good ride to the lookout on the track if ya dunna count the heaps of cars ya had to try & pass, stopped at the lookout to regroup & sarge rocked on up, then lee & sly hmmm a mobile coffee van turned up and perfect a hot choccy was excellent

a easy cruise over the hill & haywards quick regroup before hitting the motorway, went to the riverside carpark to find a market going on so bailed to wild bean cafe for both fuel & food refreshments .. must say at this point the wind was pretty keen

will leave it for lissy lu to fill everyone in on the bike situation but after a hour or so at the bp back out to motorway over the hill again to the lookout & seen the wickedly built bike with the v8 in it .. awesome up close for sure (pics later)

then off to raumati to cafe it on the beachfront & back roads to other side of pram & flick back home

day pretty darn good certainy got warmer as the day rocked on .. the wind sure got stronger too but no rain & great company It was good to met some more faces & to see some old faces back out on the road again

great day guys :wari:

To many beers? lol... Missed a good one Al... Still having problems with the clutch, have noticed the bleed nipple might be the culprit. Well, have spent an hour or so playing with the clutch, drain the complete system of all fluid and removed the bleed nipple and all banjo bolts. Had a good look at all the threads and they seem to be ok. The feeling of the bleed nipple flogging out or breaking was a myth. Looks more like the CHEAP REPCO spanner I bought in Lower Hutt has started to round off the hex..

It went back together and I flushed a good 500ml of brake fluid through and bled it all up.. Feels great. Will take Kaz for a squirt up to the windmills tomorrow as she hasn't been up there before and will test the clutch out..

On our way from Stokes Valley: Stevedee and I enjoyed a coffee at Pauatahanui, then up the Paekakariki Hill where we came across your crew on the ride south. Good to catch up. We went up to Paraparaumu down to the beach front and back down to Waterfront Cafe and Bar for yes, another coffee, then home back over over th Paekakariki Hill.

I think there may be an Alfredton loop ride on the cards before christmas where we can all meet up again.

Heads Up and Enjoy

Cowboyz had some other reason. Really great bunch of people on this ride. Shame about the NC30?. As usual I didn't ride with the group. Seemed to be more cops than normal on the ride home maybe they were looking for someone. Can't beat V8 power but can it go around corners!
haha yea it goes round corners (just not to quick)
Was good to meet you lot today. enjoyed the ride round the block, Masterton to wellington to palmy and back to Masterton again. cheers.

Interesting run. Few unexpected things going on but we got there in the end. Not to mention Sly taking a wrong turn following Chanceyy into Levin and then it all got a little confusing from there. I had to be getting back and everyone else left already had someone sitting on the pillion seat so it was decided to drop the pillion off at a gas station and abandon her. No I havent read how to make friends and influence people. Sorry about that dump and run. I hope sly caught up with you or you could be still standing there....

On the upside, I was forgiven for being 45 mins late. Who would think you couldn't make Wellington and back in 6 hours huh?

Stats for the ride

293km
3 hours 43 mins moving
6 hours 40 total
avg speed 78.7 moving
43.9 total

As usual, no idea what you are on about....... It was a good bunch but I didnt see any police and more importantly they didnt see me. That V8 was one impressive machine.

yeah forgot about that.. Textile pants and hot exhaust don't mix lol...

All that aside, Kaz loved the ride, she had an absoulute blast. The bike went bloody well two up.

So at the end of the day, I have no clutch and stuffed pants. But nothing is unfixible. Will have it all sorted in no time ...
Good to get out on a ride with you. More coming over the summer.

Ok. What size are the nipples? May have a suitable spare.
Why oh why do you make this so tempting for me?

Exactly how many "spare" nipples have you got and do they show up in photographs?

That is one impressive bike. Caught you just out of Raumati and it sounded sweet going down the highway. Nice job there.

hmmmmm 4 stops 2 cafe stops first one when sly lisa & cowboyz went to check bikes rest of us fueled bikes & ourselves, then once the others came back gave them chance to do the same thing ... then stopped at cafe at raumati beach, other than that stopped both times at the lookout to regroup

and summer does not officially start til dec 1st .. its still spring hence the unsettled weather .. glad we rode yesterday that wind is fair roaring out there today

Sounds like a good time was had by all. Sorry I missed this one, but Friday nite turned into a bit a of late one, and the alarm really didn't do the trick. Well, it went off but went off again lol. Anyway, after Sarah and I got our shit together we did the track, Eketahuna, Alfredton. Somehow this turned into Masterton, Gladstone and the Taka's. Shite it was windy going up there and I got blown into the opposite lane  Managed to avoid the oncoming traffic and got to the top to check out the cafe. Very nice, big wide screen TV and good sounds. Cakes and coffee were very nice too. Down the other side and this time it was a big blue Yamaha's turn to be blown into my lane! Not so bad tho, and over the Piecoc, Levin and home. Just finished dinner knock on the door and Cowboyz appeared and we went to a birthday party right next door and met Mrs Cowboyz rellies. Very nice nite

P.S. No sheep, nipples, or manhood probs on this one either :gob:
