about 5km short of Waitara in just over 2 hours when Mr Police asked me to stop. I was going to carry on and tell him that the ride was clear on kiwibiker that there would be no stopping except for fuel but decided against that idea and got $170 ticket for endangering the lives of other road users at 122km/hr. Meanie had a bit of a giggle and pull up with me to take some photos.

so the no stopping plan didnt work huh............

All done in good spirits Cowboyz has the pic in all his posts now
Five mins earlier and it woulda been me he got The irony of it all is we wernt going our normal pace we had decided to cruise at around 120 ks and managed to so until we were nearly there when we got a little relaxed on the throttle Murphys bloody law
The cop got so excited to see us he did a U turn in front of us and nearly ended up in the ditch now That would have been funny

Funny you should mention that... but its amazing just how often that happens.. I suppose its a lot to do with just how attentive one naturally is on a bike.. I usually figure if I get zapped its my own fault for not being on the ball enough to read traffic behaviour coming the otherway, normal HP hiding spots, or checking mirrors enough.. I figure anything that gains on me in a hurry is a likely HP..
But its always nice to have a " Sweeper " running ahead

I not going to complain too much. I have done nearly 20000k on the zx9r and about 500km of that would have been at legal speeds and this is the first ticket I have got. Wont be the last. Just got to spread them out enough for the demerit points.

I spotted the cop when I was doing 135 and braked to 120 thinking he would ignore me at 120 but nope. Oh well.

If you ring LTSA and tell them your licence number they will tell you straight away how many demerit points you have. The points are deducted when you pay the fine, but back dated to the date of the offence.
Hope you are on the right side of the ledger!

We had a good chat. While he was writing out the ticket he told me that he pulled a Honda over earlier in the day for 122km/hr. He had me going for ages until he admitted that he was joking and we laughed and laughed and laughed. Fun times. I knew he was kidding when he said Honda and speeding in the same sentence but I was feeling guiable. Oh good times..........

When I sorted out insurance I had to get a list of demerit points for the insurance company (and massive inflated excess) and I had to write a letter and fuck around for ages cause they wouldnt give me any info over the phone. That was only 6 months ago and I was on 90 points then. It all depends on what dropped off when.

As they ARE into ticketing,I prefer to refer to tickets as INVOICES from Thursday on,83 in 70 km only $80 but I don't like dem points, only on 40 but won't lose any till the all blacks next world cup semi or 2009.

If you want it in writing it may be more of a drama but they will read you the numbers straight off the computer screen over the phone. (This I know from experience having inquired on several occasions.)
Phone 0800 822 422 and press option 2 for demerit points tally. Have your licence no. handy of course.

to be fair I couldnt give a rats arse about the fine. Its only a risk that we take every time we go out and I wouldnt ride at the speeds I do if it was that big a problem. Those demerits give me the shits though. But as long as I can get under 50 point mark then it takes some pressure off.

Not sure, I'm a big fan of Metzlers (Z6's) but not sure if they'd last on a heavy bike. Might ask around at the GC. Trouble is with the bike handling like a sports bike you don't want to ruin that with crappy rubber. Would rather wear tyres out a bit quicker than be slipping & sliding around...

Radguard arrived tonight - will be fitting it tomorrow night.

Can I humbly make a suggestion, try some Michelin Pilot Road 2's Cowboyz has one on the back of that green thingy and Yod is running a full set, they should have formed a decent opinion by the time you need new rubber, well maybe not you Bandit what with the clicks you're racking up, you might might be looking for a new set after this weekend eh. East coast= Not too bad, West coast= shit. If the GC is predominately in the east you might have a decent ride, from what i've seen on the Met service the west coast might be a bit tragic.

Thanks Mr Hickey!

1000 miles usually takes all around the compass so we'll probably see a bit of weather a some stage unless the weather gods really decide to smile on us. I guess it's all part of it really and can't do much about it. Ride is always on rain or shine. Will toot if we come through Danniverke...

A little ironic considering our "perceved contrast in riding styles and bikes" that 15km beforehand you went by me and a truck at 150km/hr and I get the one ticket!

My son in law used to live in Stratford, and told me the following...

He was with two mates doing about 135 kph on the road between Inglewood and Brixton - almost Waitara. He saw flashing lights in his mirrors and slowed down to about 115, but the HP passed him and chased his two mates into the distance as they were trying to get away. A few ks later he saw all three on the side of the road, so he pulled up behind the police car to wait for his mates. After the cop had given both them tickets, he came back, saw George, and gave him one as well. S-i-L was highly indignant. Knowing how he rode in those days I wasn't sympathetic at all, but couldn't help laughing. There's such a thing as being too "matey". :third:
