To be completely typical and predictable
At least your okay, bikes and be fixed, replaced or even upgraded. Plenty of guys on this site havent been able to report on there own accidents afterwards.

Start getting receipts etc for all the custom work.
Take photos and receipts etc to dealers who can appraise your bike of its true worth, as the scum sucking insurance companies will try to screw you on the value of your bike! But with a few quotes from dealers they take the average, so leave out the low ones ;)

Far out - that totally sucks. You are not having an easy time of it old son... Take care eh - not enough good buggers out there on two wheels as it is.
Don't take it personally - I doubt if it would have made any difference to the 4 x 4 if you were on a $50 bike.... I guess that given the value of the bike, this is going to be a hell on an insurance tussle though - good luck and start gathering the paperwork.

Hi the paint was done by Imagination unlimited BY Dean 0274 373852 i had the bike insured for 50k but it really should of been 60k but my premiums were allmost double for the extra 10k it stinks but you have to have, the worse problem is trying to get an assesor to see it for what it was and not just a bike, last time i got hit they only valued the bike at 26k and the rest was wear and tear just dont figure, ive only had the bike back since july when dean finished off the paintwork, o well shit happens regards and best wishes

A bit off topic, but here's a vid of my Colt (1973 16L Mitsubishi Galant "Colt") up on the Summit Road, Christchurch. For those who are interested, it's not that great but someone might like it... Don't you just love insurance companys!! You may well get the 50k back with the "average" quote from several dealers, but I wouldn't hold my breath for the work done afterward. Bummer, feel for you - it's happened to me in the past, so can image your rage. Probably feel like this ...? :bash:

i think that 4X4 drivers are hunters that cannot get a gun licence and hunt out motorcycles instead as thats twice this year that i have been taken out by these 4x4 buggers <_<:oi-grr:

Sorry mate, but I'm a hunter with a gun licence and a 4x4, but I have ridden a bike and am extra careful as I know there is poor vision out the rear and compensate for it. The bad thing is that there are too many out there who are incompetant idiots.

9th October 2007, 10:03
maybe the law should be changed on 4x4`s and as they are made for off road use they should not be allowed on the road, most accidents with a 4x4 and a normal car are nealy allways fatal as there height makes cars go underneath and get crushed, also the 4x4 driver get a feeling off im ok i am bigger than them they can and will get out of my way, and to top it all off vision isnt very good for all round view by the driver so they are definalty not safe for raod use, i spoke to the cop that was at my crash and he stated that most cops dont like them as they stuff up the roads and the weight to power ratio of them is far too great, they dont have high speeds (most) but the tourqe that they put out chews up and damages the road surface.

but the tourqe that they put out chews up and damages the road surface.
The amount of road damage done by a 4x4 - even a 2.5t monster - is absolutely insignificant compared to what is done by a 40+t truck and trailer combo...

I know the feeling, even after my last nasty crash i thought i would get a bright bike so that the bastards couldn't use the excuse "I didnt see you".
I still had a few scares on that bike so now i ride a big black rat. Its amazing how stealth matt black seems to get more attention than bright blue did.

Try 1300kg, 77hp and 125nm for my 1.6L Vitara, that will be doing less damage than a bloody Toyota corolla let alone a Falcon XR6 or XR8.

to be honest i like fucked roads.
everytime they seem to fix them here, they drop the speed limit.
Case and point Waihi-Katikati-Tauranga (my old stomping ground), made it motorway spec (took out all my lovely messys corners that made men, men) and in alot of places brought down the speed to 80kph (used to ride most of it 120+).
Fuck you transit and your 4wd friendly corners

Gutted mate - lots of shity drivers around Chch. Seems to me that too many drivers are either asleep, too busy picking their nose, reading their newspapers or otherwise unfocused on their driving. This is bad enough when people are driving a light compact car - doubly so if they're in a "4x4" which will wobble if they try to maneuver too quickly. Then of course we have the wankers who use their vehicles as if it was a weapon and tries to bully everyone else off the roads. Some of these also drives big ass 4x4s btw :(
I drive a four wheel drive as well though - however this one corners quite well and doesn't have a very high ride height... Legacy GT-B - 280 hps, 1480 kgs - creases the tarmac nicely ;)
But dmouse - to quote Monty Python - "Always look on the bright side of life" ... you should be able to comfortably go out and buy yourself a nice GSXR1000 for the insurance money. :p (Nah seriously, it's a bloody shame to see an outstanding piece of work like that getting trashed - good thing you're ok though.)

...is often caused by the daft 'flat glass' mirrors that are fitted to (all?) NZ new 4x4's. We had a Nissan Ventura (up-spec'd Navara) for a couple of years - it was a real bitch for having blind spots. Not too bad when we were up north around Kaikohe, but after we moved down to Wellington, there were a few times when I nearly took out other cars during lane changes on the motorway - solely because of the piss-poor field of view in the wing mirrors - and that was despite doing the 'turkey dance' moving my head around trying to see what was in the other lane through the stupid mirrors.
I saw the light, and traded the useless thing in on a swb Mitsi Pajero import, with proper convex mirrors, and had no more problems on the motorway (or with blind spots) after that.
And YES, it gets used in 4WD from time to time (on the dirt, and for skiing), as well as being used as a trailer tow vehicle...
Closest run-in I've had with a 4x4 when I've been on the bike, was near the Matauri Bay turnoff, heading south (towards Kerikeri). Me and another mate had caught up to this thing doing about 80k's - waited for the straight I knew was coming (after medium RH corner) - and indicated, then popped out to pass, planning to cut through the inside of the corner and be past as the straight started, giving my mate plenty of room to pass. Fcuker suddenly veered half into the RH lane, as I was just short (< a car length) of the back of it. I paused a sec, decided I still had plenty of room on the road (including far RH shoulder if needed):angry2:, so gassed the Duc HARD (was already down a couple of gears), popped out past anyway, and reached over with my left hand and SLAPPED his wing mirror as HARD as I could! :bash::shit::D
Prick must have absolutely crapped him(her?)self!:shit: Looked in mirrors, and said 4x4 was half OFF the road, on LH grass shoulder... Mate behind me was just about pissing himself laughing! Dunno if the mirror survived - but if you don't use it, you lose it. Score 1 to the bikes!:first:

Don't cut corners, never cut corners, don't even think about cutting corners.
If I saw you I'd ticket the arse off you for doing that shit. (and you get 35 demerits for each ticket)
Cutting corners is for losers and brain dead incompetent riders and drivers.
Never, ever cut corners - one day it'll bite you on the bum when a car suddenly appears coming towards you on a corner where you could 'clearly see nothing is coming' - that's if you at least try that 'rule' and aren't one of those drongos that 'cut corners and hope'
Hope my hints are not too obscure about what I think of cutting corners.

Talking about blindspots on 4x4, the worst on my Vitara is right behind me, get a good veiw out the side mirrors, but out the back is absolutely shocking.

Should be OK as long as you don't use red ones... What about one of those 'headlight modulators', that pulse the headlight beam? Might help - but then again, if the fcukers are gonna get you - they're gonna get you...
I almost got taken out by a twat in a van once - had headlight on, bright yellow rain suit on, big red pack on pack rack (on a GSX11), and he saw me (well, he didn't see ME) as a gap in the cars, and turned across in front of me. Fcukin nearly got me. Wife was one car back, on her bike, and reckoned she lost sight of me as I laid the GSX on it's side... managed to miss van, ride around the back of it, missing oncoming traffic, and get back on my side... :angry2:
Hope the insurance do a good job on the fix! Looked like your bike was a primo unit...

That took me back. Sorry about your pride and joy but good to hear that you are Ok.
November 1978, Tuam St. I was taken out by a car that pulled over ahead of me to a park on our left side...then as I pass him (my bad, at a bit of speed) he does a u-turn, no indication and by his own admission he never checked his mirrors. Unlike you I didn't walk away. I jumped over his roof only to break my leg on hitting the road. Spent the entire hot Chch summer with my leg in a full cast from tippy toes to testicles. My CB750 totalled his car though.
Lesson for today - avoid Tuam Street

the scum sucking insurance companies will try to screw you on the value of your bike!
Not all are like that. I got taken out in a similar way 5 months ago. The insurance company paid me $300 more than I paid for the bike 5 months & 6,000km's later & to top it off they didn't bat an eyelid @ replacing all my gear that was ruined at top value & if that wasn't enough when they asked how my riding jacket was to which I replied it's fine, un marked, they asked if I was sure!! What more could they have done? Nothing. How much easier could they have been to deal with? Zip, they were 100% perfect.
