Hi there,

My name is Mikkel (do call me Mike, I insist) and have moved to Christchurch from Denmark together with my partner.

Realising that time flies by at an ever increasing rate I decided to finally go out and get myself that bike license. Thus, I got my learner's license on the 17th of september and, not being reknown for my patience, bought myself a nice Kawasaki ZXR250RR the next day(see piccie). Now, I have been driving fairly powerful cars for the last 8 years and have enjoyed myself thoroughly doing so... but I must say: These two wheelers are a LOT of fun - and a bit scary too.

Anyway, I'm still finding my wheels running around the area but am already starting to realise that it's going to be 6 very long months before I can get rid of the "yellow fever"...

Welcome to NZ mike, my Great Grandfather was from Denmark and was one of the first Settlers in Bunnythorpe (by Feilding just outside Palmerston North)...He married a girl called Alice Cleverly (there is a road in that area named after her family)..anyway, enough of my family history. Dont worry about the 'L' plate mate...i had mine behind the number plate...it was on the bike, no arguing with that....enjoy the site Mike...

Yes, there were some danish settlers who left for New Zealand - although not nearly as many as went to Australia and Tasmania. IIRC the towns of Dannevirke and Norsewood east-northeast of Palmy were respectively danish and norweigian settlements(Dannevirke was a long fortified wall in northern Germany(then Denmark) which protected the southern border of the danish kingdom for more than 500 years until around 1864 I believe(Not too bad - I must have paid attention in history classes since I'm almost correct - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Danevirke:)).

And also, there are hardly any families in Denmark that can not trace their lineage back to the royal family... How to put it - the kings enjoyed their position and had quite an appetite :D

And yes, as for the motorcycle - I've got my fingers crossed that I won't mess it up too badly. So far the worst that has happened was that my girlfriend pushed it over in the garage... I was slightly upset. :mad:

I'll see if I can come along. Although I might leave my woman at home - wanna check out what kinda seedy characters these bikers are without corrupting the mind of my innocent little flower (yeah right) ;)
However, a dedicated driver wouldn't be a bad thing. I certainly won't take my car if there's alcohol involved and even less so the bike. Might take the unmotorised moped - it's easy enough down the hill and the flat is a piece of cake as well. Otherwise I guess there's always the bus...

Sounds incredibly danish... I'll make sure to try and avoid him, I left home for a reason right!

But seriously, quite a few kiwi blokes seems rather uncomfortable with the whole concept of giving your good mates a hug and a squeeze ;)
Mostly the younger ones though, mind you.

In terms of speed I wouldn't call myself a new addict - that liability has been there for quite a few years by now. That being said - this seems to be a friendly place!
