The ‘Hairy Bikers’ - Si King and Dave Myers - are in negotiation to ride the Paris-Dakar rally route.

The pair are looking to take part in the Heroes Legend rally, which follows the route of the official Paris-Dakar event, organised by Dakar winner Hubert Auriol.

The Heroes Legend rally has been set up to give ordinary motorbike enthusiasts a chance to take part without the huge expense. The official rally can cost in the region of £100,000 – the Heroes event costs a more reasonable £12,000 including cost of bike.

King said “We have met with Billy and Michael (organisers of a team racing in the Heroes). It’s still early days so we’re not sure but we are looking at either taking part in the event itself or supporting the team. There is the potential there that we will record a programme from it. After all that’s what we do . . . we ride motorbikes to different places and cook food. I think it would be a great opportunity.”

“We are entering under the banner of Team Avalon because Michael owns the Avalon Hotel in Whitley Bay, North Tyneside.”

The riders will be supporting the RNLI and charity Riders for Health. Anyone who can support the team should call Billy on 07712-866722.
