For a beer at that bar was around $25 NZD.........even at that price 30k is an impressive effort

This is the point though, its not really like 30k spent in a NZ bar but more like 10k spent in an NZ bar, between at least 20 players and 20 support people, partners, random girls etc.

Probably 60-80 people all up I would guess and they were probably buying cocktails (come on we all know they are nancyboys ;p) which are more expensive then beers.

A good effort no doubt but I'm not astounded.

No don't get me wrong and I agree re funding in the health sector, my partner is a nurse.

Unfortunately I was more pointing to the fact that corporate sponsorship is very, well, corporate.

And a lot of the AB's do charity work for the hospitals and other children's groups

The AB's are heavily into "entitlement" mode.

They think the world cup is theirs as of right!

They forgot that they have to earn it and confirm it at the WRC Tournament.

History in between cups just doesn't count! :nono:

Henry and The AB's were committed to "winning" the WCR, they failed, miserably! Went backwards even!

Now ranked eighth equal in their world standing! :argh:

The adage: "hungry fighters fight best" comes to mind, were they hungry enough? :oi-grr: not IMHO.

When I saw "King Henry" on sale in the warehouse before they even got there, it sealed it for me. (Tui moment? Yeah right!)

They were heading for disaster, they gave their guts true but they lacked battle hardness and they were far from "hungry" for success, they just thought they only had to turn up and do the bloody haka!

When that didn't work, everybody in NZ blamed the incompetent referee. :buggerd:

Well, said the PC socialist collectivists, "it's only a game" and welcomed home the victorious "losers" as heroes!

This country is becoming more and more mediocre every minute! :first: by default only.

Wake up and smell the roses New Zealand, before it's too late. :brick: We are walking backwards to Christmas. Cheers, John.

$25 for a beer.

$300 for a GLASS of that expensive stuff

I wonder how much food it was.

$300 for a glass of Cognac.

I note on this mornings radio "it was 10,000 pounds - so really that is ""only"" 10,000 DOLLARS".
Um... NO!!!!
$30,000 dollars.

No mention of the damage inside the Hilton yet though...

The Pastor
12th October 2007, 10:56
it kinda is only 10 000$ as you have to divide it all by 3 (roughly) to get in nz price,

eg a "25" doller beer is only 8 pound, and 8 nzd for a beer is (well imho a rip off) not uncommon.

generally, you get the same ammount of stuff, eg 1nzd doller buys a coffe and 1 pound buys a coffe.

but if you took your pound to nz you could get three coffes :d

the money could have been better spent

but in saying this if there was no incident we wouldnt even know about what they got up to would we?

at the end of the tournament (well for us at least), the NZRFU have spent $50 MILLION - 30k for a few beers is nothing.

And in the UK - thats not a hard bill to run up. I have spent many an evening trying.

The Pastor
12th October 2007, 11:50
esp when the meals would of been around 100 quid each. 40 people and thats 4000 right there.

There was also flankers, props and wings.

That's odd, there were no bloody wings in evidence in the quarter final.
I suppose it's better that they turn up for the piss-up than not at all.

Howlet spend the French match in the grandstand, at least now we know what Henry was saving him for.

Bloody losers!

Not quite Swoop, they are basically trying to say that spending 10,000 pounds sterling in a bar in London (yes, it was a bar in London, not France) will buy you about the same amount of booze as NZ$10,000 would buy you here in NZ.
For example, at a downtown bar here a bottle of Heineken will cost about NZ$6. I remember paying 5 pounds for the same in Docklands.
Of course there are always other places you CAN drink with different pricing (Str1.60 pints of beer at the Walkabout in Covent Garden!), but they DIDN'T.

I agree. The cost of booze is immaterial. "Someone", however, is trying to downplay the amount spent though. 10K sterling is slightly different to 10k NZ Rouble.

I wonder if people would be bitching so much if they had won.

Well, I for one, would not be bitching, I admire "winners"!

I was in Christchurch, had they been winners I would have gone to the "welcome home".

Triers are like blowflies on the window, trying to get out, they just get tired and die there.

Winners change the plan, fly away and succeed they don't just keep trying the same damn thing, over and over.

AB's narrowly won the first half, lost the second, the game, the cup and established themselves at 8th equal in the world.

Four years and $50 million down the toilet in 40 mins of rugby and Henry still can't see where he went wrong! :bye: Hello!

He gambled and lost everything in that fatal forty minutes, apart from that his players were on track to be world champions.

They gave their all and simply ran out of puff.

As a consequence they were unable to finish their game plans and set pieces and convert their obvious superiority into points on the board.

Then, like the fly, they just kept on "trying" and "trying" and finally "dying."

Reconditioned my arse, too many injured players backing up injured players and none of them battle hardened and adequately prepared for the rigours of WCR competition.

It was Henry's plan, so Henry must accept the consequences and unfortunately the whole squad (and the country) have to share that with him too.

King Henry, my plan, my book,(It should be titled) "Four years, $50MNZ, fucked in forty minutes!"

He still doesn't know what went wrong! Yeah right! WCR's greatest "losers".

:argue: four more years? You be the judge! John.
