Im wondering what peoples thoughts are on this. You need to put your bias aside and think about this. Im not wondering what your favourite brand, or your present brand. But what in your mind is the most well built nicely finished god handling stong engineered Japanese brand of Motorcycle. To give an example I believe Honda are the best reputable brand, (Best engineered etc, best finish.)
But my favourite is Kawasaki (Apart from R6), yet I ride a Yamaha. Would i ever own a Honda, NOOOOOOOOOOO. So lets see who is actually honest here!!!

there all good.
I dont really care which make. Ive never had a kwaka road bike but the 86kdx is still banging, the yamaha I had worked even when it shouldnt have and Ive seen rgv 250 death parties where they got sick of listening to the thing scream and just turned it off in the end. And Im on a honda thats nearly 20 years old but still goes (fingers crossed a little for this weekend, make bold statements like that and you end up getting slapped by the biker gods) and is fun.
(edit: hondas build quality is good but there have always been design flaws, ie reg/rec probs that have only been adressed recently)
based on modern bikes and with my feeble knowlegde id say yamaha.

Its a tough one, yes everyone has preferences. Like I would say if a bike comes onto the market and I love it all round, 7 out of 10 times it's a Honda.... but then a Daytona 600 rides by and start to drool.... or an R6!!! yummy!!!! - So I think its actually a very difficult question to answer off patt, but if I was to choose one all rounder it would be a Honda... I've owned 3 and loved them all. But hey thats just my opinion.

This sure is an odd thread,is it worthy of a reply? The thread is titled Most Reputable Bike, but I find a poll of the best quality Japanese motorcycle - what's your question?

Reputable means " a good reputation" such a reputation is gained from having a reliable, well engineered, well presented product. IM curious as to whether people buy what they like or what is seen as the best product. It would be wonderful if what you like happins to be the best product, and most importantly the most well priced.

Hahahahahahahaha. Funny how for years and still this year the "Ford lasers of the bike world" have been the only bikes able to foot it with Ducatis in the World Superbike Comp!!!!!! Where were the rest of the Jappers??????? Hmmm
Kwakas 12th and 13th this year with the ZX10R and ya had to look lots further down for the rest..................
I shouldn't have replied to this thread cos I am very biased.

I'm voting for H***a  even though they're not for me,they do seem well built even if the engineering seems a bit off sometimes and they're a bitch to work on

2 Suzuki's. Great value but not always the best finishing!
2 Honda's. Ultra relaible, generally all round good performers but a tad boring.
2 Yamaha's. Haven't owned a late model one but I've always had a soft spot for them, so maybe next time round??
1 Harley. I have to admit that I only bought it so I could say I've had one. Loved the sound and the feel of the motor. Bloody thing needed servicing all the time, (Shovel Head), had shitty brakes, (none in the wet) and handled like a steam roller (sorry ScumDog). But I still had fun on it.
0 Kawasaki's. I'm interested in a zxr636 though.
I would say the most reputable would be a tie between Yamaha and Honda with a slight favouritism towards Yamaha just because I like their bikes more. Suzuki dips out because of cheap looking finishing (fake carbon fibre on the TL for instance) and bloody ugly mufflers.
Pretty much any of the late model bikes you can't go wrong with though, so who cares about reputation, get what you like the best!

at the risk of getting flamed i'll suggest that Honda is probably the most reputable brand.

Don't feel bad s.c., I thought that about my old shovel type H-D, didn't need servicing much though, but my 'new' ('97) model is a whole different world, have a read of the road test in the Feb-Mar edition of BRM, the only negative comment revolved around the handle-bars - which were not the correct ones for a "S" Sportster. :niceone:

I rode an Evo when they first came out and thought it was way better than the shovel. I haven't ridden a late model though but I know a few that have them and they rave about them. Maybe when I'm really old I'll get another one. :wavey:

Honda seems to have always had the best rep. Great advertising campaigns in the 70's.
I've had 4 Hondas, 5 Suzukis, and 2 Yamahas. Always liked Suzuki motors & gearboxes, but I reckon the finish on the Hondas was probably better. Nothing in it as far as anything else goes.
As I've already said I think that Honda's reputation has mainly been the result of great marketing, and some excellent bikes (eg CBR600, VFR), that have enabled their dodgy efforts to be overlooked (chocolate cams on early VFs, FTs, CB250/400 Superdreams, CX500, CBX550 camchains). Still got the best recognized name though.

I would also have to say Honda, with Suzuki coming a close second.... But with the new K4 and K5 gixxers, Suzuki has got their a into g and raised there finish quality.....

Yep, Honda's are a tad boring
But that makes everything else exciting
You have to have a benchmark, and thankfully Honda have filled that position.
And as for reliability,
It's not all Jappa's that are ultra reliable.
I did 160,000 on a boxer, no worries :headbang:

I wanna Yamasuzisaki, excitement of a kwaka, ride of a yamaha, reliablilty of a suzuki.
But i voted Yamaha cos of the old mans XS850, that wouldnt die no matter how hard he tried to kill it (in the end out of frustration he pulled it to bits).
Best hondas are singles.

Suzuki have been the top selling bike in NZ for the last 3 year's with 65%
of the market , over the rest . So I think that tell's everyone which is the best bike voted by the Buyer's who are US the rider's
