I feel mildly retarded that i cant work this out myself but hey thats what the net is for.
I took the wheel off and got a new tyre fitted. Put it back on ok but i noticed that i hear/feel a knocking when turning left at slow speed. jacked it up and had another look. the wheel seems free to move to the right and the rotor hits on the caliper. it seems like the shud b a bearing/spacer to stop its movement but i dont have one? no matter how far through i adjust the axle it makes no difference. ive attached pics. please tell me what im doing wrong

Oh dear...

See that seal... it's mean to seal on something... that something is missing.

Seems the internet has solved the problem again. Good use of it aye. Digital cameras help heaps.

those brake pads are brand new, i initally thought thought that was the problem.
and yea i had a feeling it was missing a piece, off to the bike shop 2moro to ask about it. I took the wheel off at home and took it there to get tyre fitted, i havnt seen the spacer at home. if they dont have it any idea where i can get one or what it looks like ?

If it's not in the boot of the car you used to get the wheel there, they'll have removed it to balance the wheel - maybe they forgot to refit it.

It's just a stepped bush that, as you've discovered, ensures the wheel is fixed central between the forks.
