View Full Version : Wheelieing the FXR150

Wotcher, all (my first post...)

Was wondering how much success the other FXR drivers around here have had at the above.

So far, the best I've done is lofting it a foot or so on takeoff for a couple of seconds from a *very* slow roll by revving to ~10k and dumping the clutch sharpish (but then, I've just started trying...)

I get the feeling that it'd come up more if I shifted my (not inconsiderable) weight further back and gave it a heave on the bars, so I'll just keep trying in the meantime.

So, am I:

(a) an idiot for even bothering, and I should buy a proper bike; or
(b) a complete pansy who should've had it vertical ages ago?

Yes, OK, mea culpa, I won't do it again

It *wasn't* an intentional troll, really... :p

Just do stoppies mate ;) must easier.
You find that you'll only be able to make it for a few seconds, try using the pillion pegs and going back there. Might work, I would try it but I'd rather not ;)

Seriously, are you pulling my leg? The stock rubber on my bike is pretty shite, I can't see it doing anything except sliding the front wheel all over the place. But then I haven't really tried...

If I do manage to get the front up properly, I'll try to get a photo and post it here, just to prove a point (not sure what, but wheelieing an FXR's gotta prove *something*)

It does - too much time riding in a straight line

Yeah man, it's an effort unlike those 'other' riders *eyeballs R1 owners* ;)

Just give it some weight on the front dude and you'll be sweet, they grip better then they look. You ever get on MSN eh? My mate (wrote his off got some good stop on his rather bald frontage, dunno how it got like that)

So you'll be wanting a GMKD picture as well, then? :D

It would be interesting to see a pic tho.......have seen someone do it on a Street Magic - but they just man-handled it. Funniest pics I see are the scooter wheelies in the bike mags!

Coldkiwi
25th July 2003, 16:39
have seen multiple couriers do stoppies (BIG ONES!)on street magics... if you get your tyres warm enough and they're not crusty you should be able to get it going.

as for wheelies... if you've got the front a ft off teh ground, do it again with a near empty tank and a heavy backpack on (or strap it to the pillion seat to get some of the weight off the front wheel... or just get someone stupid to ride pillion while you practice!!!

better advice is to do a search for wheelies and wheelstands on the site. there has been some v good advice in some links.

you don't need piss all grip for stoppies-its just weight transfer,
I can stoppy my MX bike on dirt or even my old crusty A100 on perished road tyres on the grass.
Also a pointer from the A100- If you can stand on your pillion pegs and ride,it'll wheelstand scary fast.

Marmoot
25th July 2003, 22:39
much easier to do it on CB90 or CB100 scooter.
Nearly flipped 1 once. :p

...so front wheel lockups on sports bikes are a product simply of over zealous braking?? I'd disagree...my tyres definitely need a bit of warming up before they'll hold on and start trying to lift the rear.

i'd also wager your MX and A100 are a fair bit taller over the front wheel than a zx-6 thats been designed with heavy braking and stoppie-prevention in mind.

Bummer about the chain though. thats pretty dissappointing

CK, you should be able to pull a stoppie from walking pace on the Kwak...:D

Dave an A100?? my first bike was an A100 and I could get the front wheel up on that.....just be sitting at the back of the seat and pulling by hard....

Dave

you and pulling hard blue? that doesn't surprise me.
No serious ck you should be able to stoppie even on cold tyres.
If the wheels locking your using too much of a grab on the brake lever than a squeeze. As you squeeze the lever, the front forks will slowly compress until the rear wheel lifts. They have high speed damping, etc. to defeat stoppies at pace, but on slow compression all you do is transfer downward weight onto the tyre.

Yeah, ive been trying to pull off some decent wheelies on mine.... not to much success. I can get some decent lifts by dropping the clutch from stop into 1st but thats about it. Ive tried to pull them off by leaning back and pulling up whilst in lower gears but no luck yet :( . My next bike is going to be a 250 ninja or gsxr-250. Hopefully enough power to do them. When i stop at the lights in town i usually pull off a wheelie by dropping the clutch but thats about all i can do on the FXR. I'dd like to learn how to do stoppies if anyone can help. There is one other option if you are game enough and have the money. I looked into getting a custom Nos kit for my fxr and there is a kit availible on www.nosnitrous.com but it supposed to be for 250's and up althought i was told it could be used on the fxr. Sorry if im boring anyone...

Gosh, small world eh?

That was back when I worked at Navman; we of the car navigation division spent just over a year working out of temporary offices in the Aon building.

That's a very good point, one that should be raised every time there's a complaint about thread dredging.

In fact, if 'they' don't want threads dredged up, old stuff should be deleted.
Anyone tries to infract you, just send them to me.
Was that directed at me, or TOTO?
I've been infracted only once, and that was because I thoughtlessly posted a link to an oversized image. Anyone'd think I'd committed a hate crime or summat...
My bad. :o
I guess length of time on KB and number of posts are no guarantee of non-stupidity or knowledge of "netiquette".

Well it seems that Undiana Jones earned an infraction last year for dredging up this thread. Here's the post to prove it (http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showpost.php?p=1222656&postcount=27) Seems incredibly silly to me.
