OK Ok guys.
Here I am and heres a photo of the new beastie - note that the seat is on the highest setting and my feet are actually flat on the ground with legs slightly bent!!

Bought it in ChCh, had a nice ride back to Dunedin on Monday and home on Tues morning - had an interesting moment in the last 10kms where it cut out whilst lent over on bumpy left hand corners. It went into the "safe mode" momentarily and then when straightened up it went back to normal again. I rang the dealer I bought it from (Street and Sport in ChCh who I was very happy to deal with) and he reckoned it sounds like a bit of water had got into the fuel and under certain "G" conditions it condensed in the rail and upset things - he suggested running some Wynns Fuel injection cleaner through it which should emulsify the water and draw it through. It might run a little rough for a while until its gone. I hope that works. The rev counter seemed to be flicking a bit prior to this happening as well.

Anyway other than that it was a wonderful ride home. Very easy to ride with so much more power on tap when you want it. I came down SH1 apart from the Oamaru to Wainakarua coastal section where it did get a bit of an "open up" although the road was wet so this was done with some care.

I filled up with gas in Oamaru because the gauge was just about on the red section - only took 14.6 litres to fill right to the top and it holds 22 litres I think! - another bike with a fuel gauge that will take some learning. Some time I'll have to carry a fuel can and run it out .

From Dunedin I went down the coast to Taieri Mouth then over the hill (gravel) to Waihola. It was a bit of a handful on some very heavy loose stuff that had just been tipped off and handed been rolled (they are getting it ready for sealing) but the T/A or anything would have been a handful on that.

It would have been nice to get one with the hard panniers but I couldn't afford a new one and I can use my big throw over bags on this one. The only things needing to be done are a scottoiler (or similar) and a proper set up for my radar detector, both when time and money allows.

In short - I like it a lot. I just hope this injector cleaner fixes this wee problem?? Anyone else ever had this (the guys said when they had filled it up with fuel they noticed water around the filler cap, so they cleared out the drain tube, but suspect some water got in this way.)

Xaria, Virago, Mutley & I went over that road on Saturday morning (before the rain), wasn't to bad then... just after you saw us in Waihola :)

Hope you like your new toy, and sort its problems out.

The rest of it wasn't a problem and great that you guys went over there on your bikes - good confidence building for the new riders. The loose stuff I was talking about was about 6-8 inches deep and had just been tipped out of the trucks and hadn't been rolled - it had a few wheel tracks from a couple of vehicles that had been over it but if anything that made it worse. I got through it no problem - more a case of the surface making me aware of the weight. You would have freaked a bit on the VTR on this stuff.

Bullshit?? - no it wasn't but I decided the BMW's are a bit "pipe and slippers" for me yet. The Tiger seems to appeal to something deep inside - oooh when that big triple growls.......

Another thing I have just discovered which is a bit of a piss off - the Givi mounts for the topbox on the bike are different from the mounts for the big topbox I had on the T/A and have kept. I'll have to get another mounting plate - more $$$$$ Anyone want to buy the black topbox in the photo?

Not to worry Bruce, I have a spare GIVI top box rack you can borrow!

About a tablespoon of meths should help with the water in the fuel.

You could come over to Wanaka and we could mate them and get a litter of Tiger cubs to train as trail bikes this summer.

Shit you have got long bloody legs!

I have the seat on the lowest and still can't reach the ground!

Still they say you can't have long legs and good looks, don't they?

The tank is 24 liters and at 200miles (330?km) I can only get about 18 litres in usually.

Have only had the light come on once, when we were on our PP ride from your place.

The only thing that will pass you now is a blue one. Cheers John.

Hi Bruce, I could be interested. It's a Givi? Monokey or monolock? Any idea of the size or model? I'm using a crappy Rjays topbox that was on my wee NXR125 at the moment which is a good size for every day use but was toying with the idea of getting 2 interchangable Givi boxes, a small one for everyday use and a large one for when we need to load up.

Hmmm... two black stripey Tigers on the 08 passes run.....
Cheers, Tim.

Its a Givi Flow - as for size I'm not sure. You could put in one full face helmet with a bit of room around it but not 2. I put my backpack in it which was pretty full and had a bit of room to stuff things around it. I doubt its quite 20l but it would be getting close.

Well done Brucie,About time you came to your sense's and got a real bike.
Oldrider passed on some of my emails for Ozzie to you to prove that the Tiger can cut it in the out back of Ozzie so riding it around NZ will be easy and fun.
Might see you on the pass's ride.
It looks like my bike will be heading back to Un Zad sooner than later,in Sydney with Fleethual after another top ride back for the GP.
It's really a shit of a life riding a tiger all day on gravel, topped out at 155k's an hr yesterday on gravel.Do that on a Beemer if it can go that fast.

Wondered when I would here from you Mark - yep its a great machine and the same colour as the bike that started this process!!
Found the cause of the cutting out problem today - nothing to do with moisture in the fuel. The bike had 2 loose battery terminals!! Went for a ride with Delphinus this am to blow some fuel through it with the additive and the cutting out got worse.
We stopped at one point and turned the bikes off and the Tiger didn't have enough grunt coming from the battery to start again. After an unsuccessful jump start I took the seat off thinking we might have to take the battery away and either get a replacement or charge it up for a while. Found the loose terminals and a couple of minutes later it turned over and started - and all the other problems disappeared as well!! Cheap fix, and much relief:done:

The rev-counter flicking is usually a givaway for a loose earth or battery terminals.

Yes we all learn from these things and file the bits away in a memory cell in case it ever happens again.

:D

Mine was a loose earth on the Nordie.
I'd been complaining about the rev-counter playing up for a week or two but it was only after the mechanic finally found the problem that people said "rev-counter flicking? That's a loose wire..."
