hi guys.

at the moment i own a 1997 yamaha wr250z. ( two stroke )
as well as my little zxr 250 :)

I want to sell the wr and was thinking about buying a recent model registerable 450 and motard it. I love the power of the two stroke and how I can power wheelie in every gear.

will I miss the power of the two banger or will the 450 excite me as much?

thanks, ryan

From the little I know the 250 2 smoker and the 450 4 banger both deliver about 50hp. The 2smoker delivers it fast and with more of a rush (depending on the pipe and gearing) the 4 banger is alot more linier delivering it more across the complete rev range.
My 2 smoker delivers it really well down low (different gearing, fly wheel weight and jetting) but when you really twist it, it still wants to lift the wheel and goes like shit. I don't think you get that so much with a 4 banger. But the 4 banger guys will say there power is more usable.
Each to there own but I think they are both about 50 horse or so.

Power is smoother with more torque down low.

Will it excite you as much as a 2 stroke, no.

If you like wheelies in every gear then you won't be dissapointed, just roll it on bro. You'll be excited allright.

a late model WR450 with mx spec jetting will piss all over your WR250, it will be quicker, turn better, out wheely everthing,
and when you put motard wheels on it, you will nto stop smiling for months, it is that much fun, jsut watch your licence, motards on the road make you do stupid things that the the fuzz do not like to much,

I think its worthy to note that a WR450 is about 116kg so it will be a bit heavier than your old WR250.

Def won't be disappointed with a 450 mate. They've got more than enough power at the twist of the throttle and poppin' the front up with ease thru every gear:niceone:

450s turn first time bikers into wheelie artists in no time, its just that easy so a real testament to the torque and power that they have, late model 250 2s and 450 4s produce closer to 60hp in mx spec but the 450 has that much power at any RPM, no waiting for the power to come on so less gear changing. They dont have the powerband hit that excites you but who cares, the 450 will be faster, same power all the time!

At low RPM, if the 450 feels like its bogging down in top gear, open in up and the wheel just lifts all the way to the limiter.

I hate waiting for my RS to hit power band, takes for ever! I guess I can ride the crap out of the clutch but dont want to kill the clutch in five minutes.

I guess it comes down to personal preference but you gotta love that powerband, the adrenaline rush and fun factor on a 2 stroke takes some beating.

If you can ride both it would make the decision process allot easier.
