Coming back from a ride over the pigroot today i called in at Palmerston for gas and as i was about to leave a bloke pulled in on a SuperDuke,a bike ive admired from afar for quite some time but for awhile know have settled for throwing money at my old girl and thought my days of buying a new bike were done although just the other night i did remark to another member that before i depart the world of sports orientated bikes i would love to own one of them.Turned out the guy was a TLS fan from way back although never owned one and loved the various things i had done to mine, whilst he was looking at mine i stood drooling over his KTM feeling the daggers in my back from the old TL who must have felt like an over dressed old slapper being compared to a well built 18 year old:Pokey:The bloke offered me a ride on his KTM but as i was supposed to be somewere else combined with not liking to ride someones pride and joy i declined.Anyways as usual i cant afford it but will find a way i would like opinions on said bike from those that own them. Both good and bad.

I've only had mine a month or so and I've only just finished running it in, but I'm real happy with it so far.

After a couple of minor issues with build quality which I'm told is unusual (fingers crossed) it's been great.

I'm still getting used to it as I said, so I haven't pushed it too hard yet, but it's slowly bringing out the hooligan in me .

If you're really interested in opinions from owners check out http://www.superduke.net/

From memory there is a well respected KTM dealer in Palmy, I'm sure they'll have a demo on.

Festus & his Bro have met me out @ Whangamona one day :cool:Well I cannot comment on TLS vs SD but before the SD I had a RSV Mille R 2000 model (45,000k's when I traded it on said SD) before that a FalcoSl1000 (24000k's), before that a MG 1100Sport ie. (43000k's) all fm new, before that a Ducati 900 S2 (love my Vtwins).Iv'e just covered 37500k's on the KTM (05 model) & she just keeps getting better. I've covered 8000k's in the SI this year (2 seperate trips) & is excellent for long trips, only probelm being an 05 is the f'n 15ltr tank which sucks literaly (sp) but all fixed on the 07 with the 18ltr tank, so not an issue.PM if you like & i'll try & ansewr any questions you may have !:devil2:

Have owned and LOVED 4x '97 TLS's and Unit has had a '99 TLS.
To date have owned an '05 SD and have just bought a SD-R.
I've given up my "bling" '07 ZX10R with huge horsepower and Ohlins to have a SD.
Why? Because it makes me giggle like a school girl!!
There's only one comparison to be made with a TL...they are both 'Twins, that's it.
The SD's are one of the most divine tuning machines ever. They have a certain presence about them and the aural pornography from their rear end is simply orgasmic.
Strongly recommend an '07 model due to its better fuel range but other than that they are pretty much the same.

Any questions just ask.

BTW...you need one

Practically speaking i'd go for a Kwaka ZX-14, was in AFC motorcycles in Palmy Nth today pervin' at thier black one:drool: I have never riden a bike with such a smooth motor, plenty of zip when ya want it, handle for a big machine, comfy and really enjoyable ride. The Duke tugs at your heart strings and inner hooligan though.:niceone:

Ya realise I have one eh?
Practically...yes,the ZX14
Pornographically/wank factor/carvability™/presence/aural pleasure-wise...the SD-R!

In saying that the ZX14 is just off 180RWHP and carves like a demon possessed.
However the KTM is that demon's Boss!

Yeah mate, if I recall my last sight of you leaving that pub before Stratford was on your rear wheel mate!.:2thumbsup

ok rode my brothers -07 SD. Was impressed. very responsive and very good power delivery down low and in mid range. Got buffeted around with the high winds and when I wound her up. Unusual (unfamiliar) uprightish riding position not my cuppa tea. who knows in a couple of years

Compared to the TLS??, well you can't really try and compare the 2, both good bikes in their own right and both deliver good horsepower.

Yeah, the bloody things have a habit of doing that, even more so now with the 16T front sprocket :whistle:By the time I got back from Auckland when I traded my Mille the riding position seemed natural. Granted you do get buffetted around when it's blowing like forty bastards but it just causes muscles to grow in the neck & shoulder regions. We are looking @ riding up to Taumaranui in the next few weeks & coming back through to Whanga, should drop you a line & meet up in Taumaranui for a ride back !

I've had an 07 model for a few months now. It is fabulous......possibly the best bike I've ever owned or ridden. Fast, huge brakes and suspension that is sublime. All this and 48mpg if I keep it below 140.
