Hi Guys,
I am thinking of buying this bike. Can you tell me if you think it would be reliable for trail riding? Looking for something with some go but do not want it to be unreliable and trouble bound.

All comments greatly appreciated

Some details_____03 drz430e, yoshimura cams, yoshimura ignition box, rebored to 430cc,wiseco piston, full race exhaust, and header, the top end is basically off darryll hurleys motor

I would have said reliable if it was just a DRZ 400.
But as soon as you touch a motor with parts it was not designed for, your reliable bike becomes a shit load faster and better, but a little less reliable.
The list you have stated, i would say the bike has a short but hard life, not many people would spend that much money on mods if they didn't go racing.

Mr hurley races a rmz450?? not a drz...so top end will not be off it...different motor...as for the rest...well...depends how well its been built...what sort of money is he after??
and at the end of the day its probally only making as much power as a wr426/450 and yet the chassis/suspension is designed for the mere 34hp it makes standard

Hurley raced DRZ400's in 02 and 03, they were dam quick, he was winning races against Shayane and darryl king on 450 yz's and CR's. i know hurley wnet through a lot of clutchs that year, (but he goes though clutches on any bike, sometimes 2 sets in a meeting)

as for relibilty, they were not to bad, but you would want to know how long the top end has been in their for, if it has been since 03 you might want to look at going in side, Murray THorn built these motors, and can get the pistons etc, might be worht talking ot him, he has a suzuki shop in Motueka, Murray Thorn Motorcycles,

Thanks Scott, I will chase up Murry and the bike shop that originally put the bike together and see if I can find out some more detail.

At the end of the day I always liked my old DRZ400E as a fun bike but thought they could do with a little more poke. Kinda bika you can relax on if doing long stretch and you dont have to ride them hard all the time like a WR.

Thought this bike might fit the bill quite nicely

Can't say much for the reliability, but I have ridden a DR-Z400SM with a 426cc Athena big bore kit, and I can say it transforms the engine.

Call Wellington motorcycles and ask for the guy with the DR-Z400SM (Can't recall his name) and ask his opinion of that kit.

Considering there are kits that take the DR-Z400 beyond 470cc, handing 430cc is probably with it's capabilities.

Live a little.. Buyyyy it!!!

Bike top end built by Suzuki team for Darryl Hurly. Nickel (something or other) bore sleeve. All done by professionals. Hasn't been flogged. Spoke to previous owners. All good. Gotta be a good thing.
