has anyone ever had a tattoo from the shop in alicetown lower hutt?

I got them to do some ink on me back in July - and not at all happy about it, have spoken with them and they want to charge me even more for fixing their own fu*k up, the colour is missing in a lot of places, and the fine art work that should have been done has bleed so to speak into the bit of ink where there should have been skin showing.

this isnt the first bit of ink i've had done, been getting ink done for years, but never by anyone from this shop!

worries me that people pay top $$$$$ for their ink, and more so cause these cowboys are suppose to be holding a booth at the tattoo show here in lower hutt at the end of the month.

feed back would be great!

Sounds to me like they tatooed too deep.

If you are going to have to pay them to fix it then why not try to find someone better?

So these guys might be a good place to avoid. Can anyone recommend a good place in Welly or surrounds to get something done?

Sounds like a good reason to stick with who you know when it comes to tattoos .....A good artist should pick the faults up and be willing to see the work they did a week or so later ....depending on if your a bleeder or not will depend on how well the ink takes to the skin and what size needles they were using on your tat

I have about 7k worth of tatts and the the artist had no problems doing touch ups as he was able too see faults that I couldnt in his work like any industry it takes time to build up a good reputation and only one action to destroy it

good luck with getting it sorted

thanks for the info.

to be honest i wont be heading back to that shop - i've just had in the past months, 4 hours work done on my arm, and the out come has been spot on - not in any hurry to show to others the work that this place in alicetown did until it is fixed.

a hell of alot trust goes into being tattoo'd by someone new.

good to hear you have so much work done - love the ink.

well, seeming as I've only ever gone to places up here, no, but will CERTAINLY not go there now!!

however, i went to a place called uptown tattoo on K'road in auckland.. best damn tattooist i ever saw!! he was really cool! as opposed to demographics, they were dicks when i wanted to ask them some questions (for my first tattoo). they made me feel like they looked down on me! but uptown, i recommend to anyone! plan on going back there for my next two as well.

on top of that, free touch ups or fix ups if necessary, and maybe even a free tattoo next time ^-^

rofl. well if I get 2 done at the same time, they said they may give me the second free, just for being a trooper. lol. I'm keen for it :p besides, they wont be too big either, so it's do-able.

I got one done by him a about a year ago I think and he did a great job. He is probably the only person i'd get to do another for me.

If they fuck it up the first time...... You're being silly if you think going back and letting them "fix" their fuck up is a good idea.... Go else where and pay someone who you know and trust to fix it up... Would you rather pay the extra..? Or more than likely end up with something much worse..??

I remember a tattooist my sister went to in Whangarei... Her tattoo is retarded... Faded out in places.. Raised and badly scarred in others... Yet she kept going back and getting more done.. Lets just say she has more than just one stuffed up tattoo now..

Bummer to hear about whats happened though... Sounds like you had found a good tattooist at one stage.. Stick with them...

There's a tattoo place in Water St Whangarei, which is very good too. They often have visiting artists in. My son had a tat done for Christmas last year by an american artist. Awesome work. I'm contemplating having another done at some stage, but can't decide on a design.

That must've been a while ago. Was it in Water St opposite Shell?? There was also one in Kamo. He was shut down in the end cause he did a lot of damage to people stupid enough to go there. Me included, but was lucky that it could be fixed.

I'm actually not to sure cause it was a few years back... I know its definately not the place where Jodi and Renee work though (I think its called Art and Soul) as she got some work done by them recently which was nice....They always come up for the Tattoo show that they hold at the Homestead... Their works is always nice..

I'm not really sure on the street names or names of places.... But I think her first few tattoos were done by Northland Tattoo Studio.. I'll have to find out... But I'll know the place if I see it... ;)

Yup thats the place..!!!!! Its ok.. I only know places in Whangarei by sight pretty much.. Not really good with street names etc.. lol.. Nice work comes out of there... The American was more than likely Annette Larue... She always comes over for the tattoo show.. There is another American lady who comes also though.. Shes got real dark hair.. I'm not to sure of her name though... I've got two tattoos all planned for myself which I'd really like Renee or Jodi to do... Just a matter of money at the moment..

How do you track him down to fix his fuckups?, what if the tat needs an infill?
what if the councill needs to track him down to tell him that 5 of his customers have contracted hepatitus? gypsy tattoist fuck no youd have to be bonkers

I do understand what you are trying to say.... But as mentioned earlier.. If you needed your "fuckups" fixed would you really want him to attempt fixing them??? Gypsy tattooist.. Not your cuppa tea... Not mine either.... Then again I watched a very well known tattooist on Queenstreet tattooing a young girl.... His cellphone would go off... So he'd stop, reply to his txt msg, not change his gloves afterwards, then go back to tattooing her... Talk about cross contamination.... Oh and..... Whiping his nose on the lower part of his arm... Also walked into a tattooists in Kaiataia.. There was what looked like blood on a jar of vasaline... And it was in the back of a hairdressing salon.. Do you know how dirty peoples hair is..? Yet EVERYONE goes there... Despite walking out with absolutely shite tattoos... That end up all raised up and scarred... Lines that they mis-tattooed and had to correct etc etc...
It really pays to look into your tattooists alot more carefully... Oh and actually WATCH them work on someone... So you can also see their hygiene skills etc etc... Instead of just flicking them money and jumping in the chair...:nono:

all sorted people, made my mind up that these fools will not touch me again with ink, off to have a great guy fix it up for me, only have one chance to get it sorted. the hutt valley is a small place, and i have heaps of ink, so there will be a few people that i will inform NOT to go to the Alicetown guys.

Good on you for getting it sorted with someone else. Is there any governing body that Tattooist have to (or can choose to) register with? I have some unfinished ink (quite a big piece on my back plus some other bits and pieces) but my Tattooist has disappeared. He did a great job on the back piece, and Im happy with the work so far, but cant get hold of him to have it completed (needs at least another 10 hours). To be fair I moved to a different city, but now I have to find someone else and dont want to suffer the same problem as you have. Fortunately I have the stencil (as not all the outline is finished), but how do excellent tattooists feel about picking up someone elses work?
There is not doubt a lot of health issues at stake when it comes to getting ink work done, guess Ive been fortunate to date.

If getting fine needle work Dave McEwen is great but hes always booked solid.
I now use Gill @ Tattoo City in Cuba Mall, he has a great attention to detail. I've had 6 hours with Gill so far and its the best tats ive had to date... 25 hours and counting. Getting him to complete my sleeve over the next 12 months.

My one tip for people... NEVER EVER judge someones work by the photos in the studio. Always check out people healed skin. If you see a good tat ask where they got it. I have people asking me about my tats all the time... Im more than happy to point them in the direction of someone good and away from a butcher!

you are so right about Dave and his work, he has just latley finished my upper arm, 4.5hours of work, and just bloody fantastic!!!!!!!!!!!
and
yeap he is booked to the max, and that was the reason i ventured somewhere else (which will never happen again). But i'll get Dave to fix these.................. Rodger in Cuba St is only taking limited clients these days which is understandable, but i do know his work.

Far out, really?? I've always just wandered in there and had a yarn about this and that... Got a mate teed up for some work to be done before Xmas - my design. It blows me away to have someone want what I've designed inked on them!

Roger is a good 'un - one of the dwindling number it seems...

well well well,

the tattoo show was held in lower hutt last weekend, and guess who showed his face at the event, yeap the chap from the tattoo studio in alicetown, he didnt stay long, as i was working there during the weekend, and bugger me if he didnt take to kindly to being tapped on the shoulder and asked "so, have you come here to LEARN how to tattoo?".:argh: After this he departed the event - not to be seen again.

Today i popped in to see Dave at Tattoo Freaky to have the stuff up fixed - gee he's a great bloke. :second:Oh and for the record, the latest tattoo that dave did on my arm - well it got 2nd place - Best Female Small Arm and 2nd place - Best Female NZ Related during the weekend.

Tattoo Freaky ROCKS!
