RIP rider.
Those wire barriers give me the freaking heebie jeebies when I ride past them. I keep thinking I should start some sort of petition to TPTB to get the damn things banned. Does anyone know if this has been tried before?

And yet so many keep putting up posts and threads ranting on that speeding is okay and the cops are wankers. I wonder why my head gets so sore banging on the preverbial brick wall.
Oh no...not another one. PLEASE ride safe, peoples.
Exactly.... 150km/h is never "safe". Yet another life wasted, yet another family distraught over the loss of a loved one that never needed to die. Yet another horrible mess for emergency services to clean up and for the taxpayer to pay for.

While I appreciate the sentiment in what you are saying Toaster, maybe this is not the thread to be saying it in!
Condolences to the family - RIP.

And in 2003, 332 people died by falling in the bath (in the states).
See http://www.nsc.org/lrs/statinfo/odds.htm
Speed only causes accidents in that if the wheels wern't turning, there probably wouldn't have been an accident (I say probably, 'cos I've read some of the other KB threads...).
After the wheels start turning, there's usually another 'actual' cause for the accident. Speed just increases the severity of damage suffered/inflicted in an accident. It doesn't cause them. The actual accident can generally be traced back to some other cause... Loss of traction due to shite tyres or shite road surface, rider inattention/error, external influence - sideswiped by cage, or critter...
It's just the LTSA's official position to incite mass hysteria by blaming "Speed". Means they can justify their revenue gathering. :Police:
Bit like the bloke who's had a glass of beer, then gets T-boned by a boy racer (or granny) - it gets called "alcohol related", and the guy who's had the beer gets blamed! Even though he was following all other rules perfectly, and it was the other driver at fault...
BTW - Condolences to the riders friends and family. It's ALWAYS sad to hear of another loss. RIP.

I disagree...
May his death serve as a lesson to future generations of squids, as well as be a testimony to the short life he led, and the memories he has left behind...

Motorcyclist dies in crash that closes motorway
7:55AM Saturday October 20, 2007
A motorcyclist is dead after a crash on Auckland's Southern Motorway early today.
Police said the crash took place in the Papakura area, and has caused the northbound lanes of the motorway to be closed between Papakura and Manurewa.
The motorcyclist hit the wire median barrier in the middle of the motorway and debris was spread over a wide area, said Inspector Gary Hill.
The motorway was closed for several hours until a single lane was opened later in the morning.
Mr Hill said the motorcyclist died at the scene but his name and other details would not be released until possibly later today.
