Sorry to hear this. I didn't know this kiwibiker at all but because he was a Kiwibiker it makes the accident alot closer to home for me.
Every year we lose several Kiwibikers and its always on the road. Just something to think about. To much to hit on the road.
The rider willl be at rest but his friends and family have to go on without him.

He was a good friend, he could take the piss and have it took all in good spirits.
Can I request that if any of you have photos of him or even memories you'd like to share that you either post in this thread or email them to the address in the first post.
I for one remember the time we were out having wheelie practice... I couldn't get the K1 up for being a chicken shit, but he got straight on and had her up before you knew it. He knew little fear, and was always there for you if you needed him.

I just realised this was Rayza. (I didn't realise he'd changed his name to Back Fire.) When I first joined KB and chat was more lively, I used to chat to him a lot in there. He seemed like a hard case kind of guy - lived for the thrills & was prepared to take the spills along with it.

No speculation on the cause of the accident please guys/girls or your posts will be removed
Discussing accidents:
1) If the incident resulted in death, no talking about the specifics of the accident should be discussed until after the funeral attribute thread is fine, however no specifics. There will however be a 24 hour blanket on all discussions of the subject, this will ensure all family has been informed etc. Then the tribute thread can be posted.
2) If the event involves serious injury, then any comments will be removed until after the Police have notified next of kin and the moderators have confirmation of this.
3) The Administrators and Moderators reserve the right to remove a thread.
4) Any non death or serious injury threads, so general “biker down” threads are OK, but moderators will keep a close eye on them. We request respect is kept in these discussions. Any non appropriate comments will be removed.
5) Any accident that happens at a public gathering is fair comment, subject to points 1 and 2.
6) Anybody who posts fiction or malicious speculation, will have their comment deleted and will receive strong censure from the Administrators or Senior Moderators of the site.

Update: I was the only witness at the scene.
The front end (forks, triple tee, tank, fr wheel) shot off to the left, rear end of the bike was deflected by the barrier and headed along the same angle as it entered the collision with the barrier. The front and the back end seprated.

Just message for whoever.. To ma and pa sorry to hear of the news, I know it will be hard for you to take but think of the good times you had together, the fun times and the sad times, the silly times and the laughs! I know there will be many :) Give Allan a message if you want to talk to me.
I awoke to a few text messages asking if I was okay (wouldn't be seen on a gixxer anyway ;) ) and found out shortly after who it was.
Pretty much everything today has not gone to plan for me, so I'm having a night in...
Was good hanging out with Dan over the roughly 2 years plus we've known each other! Great fun riding around, poking crap at Allan/Dan and the rest, doing 'rice runs', hanging out at random places wherever our rides took us, trying to make decisions for silly little things and of course the general shenanigans we always got up to! The corro loop runs and sh16 thrashes, pure bliss!
You have been a great guy to know, shit happens :( You were always friendly and easy going.. know ya bikes and ya stuff about other things and definitely always a damn laugh so thanks for the times hehe!
Will catch up with you one day and we can have a chat about some motards again eh :devil2:

I think youve summed that up perfectly leong , he was a very polite guy and his parents had raised him extremely well could be a bit quiet sometime but damn he knew how to ride....
I remember the ATNR (Auckland Thursday Night Ride) one night he came out on his dr650 deafening us all with his loud yoshi...then pulling out and we were taking a shorter route heading thru backroads he get onto a straight and put it up on one wheel and man.....that still remains to this day the best ever wheelie i had seen....
perfectly balanced and i mean perfectly...went along for a good 500 metre with the numberplate about 2 inches off the ground...no more no less for the whole frikking wheelie....same angle the whole way.... plate 2 inches off the ground perfectly consistent for 500 metres , the rest of us couldnt believe it...talk to him after...oh yeah...was nothing much....
meanwhile were all sitting there in disbelief...
anothertime we had undercover cops following the ride but ddnt notice...and he hoists up a massive wheelie...well we get to dairy flat...cops took 6 licenses....then walked up to dans bike and go right now whose bike was this...dan steps forward and says mine...
cop says we were behind you and you hoisted up a wheelie. but were letting you go because that was a very safe wheelie and we saw nothing wrong with it....
always known for having deafeningly loud bike...the dr650 passing me one night down a straight....bwarrrr and i went ohh yeah pretty loud...went round some corners....next big long straight i come out...and theres this deafening noise...i'm like whys my bike so bloodey loud...hang on that aint my bike...nobody nearby....look 500 metres ahead...theres this little dr650 tail light dissapearing down the straight...and i still couldnt hear me blimin bike...
and when the k6 gixxer thou had a slashcut...geez...me poor ears.... that was LOUDDDDD.
LEGEND lol
a little while ago i'm sitting at the pub....and somebody gets a cellphone call.... can somebody come get us???
so me having the only car a couple of **delivery riders jump in and away we go...get to the end of peak road to see 3 rather glum looking fellas sitting there with thier bikes...and no licenses......so two of them needed a lift...but not dan...oh yeah ill be sweet...got a lift coming.....
are ya sure buddy? yeah yeah i'm sorted...alrighty so in hopped the two fellas with no licenses..... and the two fellas with licenses delivered thier bikes home for them...morcs and karma from memory...with pumba and big dog riding thier bikes....
i remember driving away and looking at dan as i drove away sitting on the ground....see me gives me a grin and away we went and away he slipped away from the lights into the darkness....
and thats the last time i ever saw him.
that image is forever in my mind.

Remember first riding with you on the Opononi ride, thanks for swapping bikes.
Then had fun seeing you learning to wheelie the Gixxer 6 hundy and going on a few Coro Loops.....remember the one when the KB God joined us?
Was nice waking up the neighbours that night with your slashcut.

As we are not able to be there all the time and we live far far away, any help in providing a shoulder for the family to lean on would be greatly appreciated.

To All who have posted messages on condolence for Back Fire/Razya
Many thanks from my wife and myself, Dan was a fanatic bike rider, even though as a little child he hated the noise of my BSA or Norton, he followed both his mum and myself into a love of Motorcycles.
At the moment the police won't let us see Daniel, so we have to wait till the funeral directors get him and tidy him up. once done we will have details of the funeral to post up for any of his friends to come, please note if any want to come to his funeral you will be most welcome, BUT please all motorcycle riders please come by bike.
And if any of you want to help in any way please stir up about the cheese wires they are putting up as a barrier, in most countries these have been ban because of the danger to motorcycle riders, they say speed was a factor, sorry the road was straight and clear, he was a better rider than I am and that's after nearly 50 years riding bikes, and having myself had to step off bikes at 125MPH in the past, know that the speed they say he was doing was easily survivable. what killed him was the cheese wires, and the fact that the head stock appears to have fractured, for any of those who have seen the video you will see his forks are straight, and his rad is still intact, which does not marry with a front end impact with a barrier. I await confirmation as to why the head stock separated from the rest of the frame.
Daniel would want people to fight the cheap skate attitude of TNZ in fitting the cheese wire barrier instead of a safer system of barrier and I don't mean the half hearted corrugated barrier that are up as these still allow a motorcycles to slid under them into a post.

To Dans' Mum & Dad,
Marsha and I offer our heartfelt condolensces on the tragic loss of your son.
I did not ride with Dan but am sure I've seen him around West Auckland a few times.
Being a Dad who rides, with a son who also rides, I can say my boy has already given me his share of stressful moments as news of an "off" he's had is delivered. I can't imagine what you are dealing with now, but do know that heart--stopping moment when told "your son has been in an accident".
If there is anything we can do as fellow bikers (and Westies) please feel free to call, I've PM's our contact details.

The road is straight at the point, I have already told the police that I wan't a structural engineer to inspect the bike that I will appoint, they have said he will not be given access till they release the bike as they claim he hit the barrier with the bike, I have been down to the crash site and I am sorry but I do not agree, yes Daniel hit the cheese wires and the barrier, but I don't think his bike did, what has been realated to me from another source ameadatly riminded me of the way the first 1969 Norton Comandos frame failed and that is why I want an independant inspection of the frame failure on the Bike concerned

I have been harping on about those bloody cheese cutters for a long time, I am going to start HOUNDING Transit. There is no need for such cheap barrier construction. A thick sheet of plastic would be cheap, replacable and stop riders sliding into them. WOuld cost less than the fatal crashes caused by them will cost in the years to come. I suggest all of us stop lobbying them. You dont have to speed to be hurt by these things.
RIP Dan.

Your suggesting that the frame failed on your sons bike causing the crash?
Comments of this nature directed to his grieving parents at this stage of time do no good to them nor anyone else around them. It does not help at all.
As suggested by Senior Mods (http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showpost.php?p=1255903&postcount=56)and Spank you might want to refrain from discussion as such.
Thanks.

From accounts I have heard this is sure worth investigating.
from accounts i have heard from the witness also and from the bikes history. yes this is the cause in my opinion and is well worth being seriously looked into.
I do hope you are both wrong, if you are right then there are potentially thousands of riders out there on suspect frames.
An independant engineers inspection is needed before you can form an opinion mark as the facts have yet to become clear.
WW is right to have the bike inspected to find out if this was in fact the actual cause.
WW & family , I offer you my deepest sympathy.

For backfire:
Riding with pride
Up and over beautiful mountains
Along rivers lazy curves
Out and over golden straights
These beautiful sites my visual fate
Winds pounding and pelting
Away at my soul
That massaging and cleansing
While I ride, my goal
And every breath sustaining my life
Is seasoned sweetly with natures own spice
Alone with thought on this endless pave
But far from lonely, hence a wave
From another new Brother or Sister to be
Out on their bikes, spirits so free
Live to ride and ride to live
And of yourself to others give
Ride through the rain, ride in the sun
Just ride, ride, ride
Until your ass says your done

I read this whole thread earlier today, got a bit weepy when I read Dans Dads first post.
But could not think of any thing else to post except RIP so thought I would wait a bit until there was something else, did not know what it would be, but just opened an email with this in it and thought wow this says it all.
Written by Andy Rooney, a man who has the gift of saying so much with so few words.
“I've learned.... That when you're in love, it shows.
I've learned.... That just one person saying to me, 'You've made my day!' makes my day.
I've learned.... That having a child fall asleep in your arms is one of the most peaceful feelings in the world.
I've learned.... That being kind is more important than being right.
I've learned.... That you should never say no to a gift from a child.
I've learned.... That I can always pray for someone when I don't have the strength to help him in some other way.
I've learned.... That no matter how serious your life requires you to be, everyone needs a friend to act goofy with.
I've learned.... That sometimes all a person needs is a hand to hold and a heart to understand.
I've learned.... That life is like a roll of toilet paper. The closer it gets to the end, the faster it goes.
I've learned.... That we should be glad God doesn't give us everything we ask for.
I've learned.... That money doesn't buy class.
I've learned.... That it's those small daily happenings that make life so spectacular.
I've learned... That under everyone's hard shell is someone who wants to be appreciated and loved.
I've learned.... That to ignore the facts does not change the facts.
I've learned.... That when you plan to get even with someone, you are only letting that person continue to hurt you.
I've learned.... That love, not time, heals all wounds.
I've learned.... That the easiest way for me to grow as a person is to surround myself with people smarter than I am.
I've learned.... That everyone you meet deserves to be greeted with a smile.
I've learned.... That no one is perfect until you fall in love with them.
I've learned.... That opportunities are never lost; someone will take the ones you miss.
I've learned.... That when you harbor bitterness, happiness will dock elsewhere.
I've learned.... That I wish I could have told my Mom that I love her one more time before she passed away.
I've learned.... That one should keep his words both soft and tender, because tomorrow he may have to eat them.
I've learned.... That a smile is an inexpensive way to improve your looks.
I've learned.... That I can't choose how I feel, but I can choose what I do about it.
I've learned.... That when your newly born grandchild holds your little finger in his little fist, that you're hooked for life.
I've learned.... That everyone wants to live on top of the mountain, but all the happiness and growth occurs while you're climbing it.”
Now I can say RIP.

A lot of us didn’t know Dan (me included), but in our minds we are all brothers and sisters, with our love of biking and the community spirit like we have on KB and other motorcycling web sites. We share a common secret, it’s like every time we pass another motorcyclist and we give the old wave or nod, we each know that secret that makes us who we are. The challenge, the thrill and the respect of what we can do on our bike is the reason we ride, the only downfall is the risk we take every time we get out on our machines. I never like reading the posts of what is said about fallen members, but then there are always those great memories of time spent, jokes had, I just give my wife and daughter the extra hug and kiss and pray that I am never one of the fallen.
To Dan’s family thanks for sharing with Dan “that secret” and letting him live, so that we in turn could share with Dan through meeting him on rides or reading his posts, by all accounts he has done himself and family proud.

I was talking to Dan on msn on Friday night... as per usual he was linking me to videos and helping me to waste my evening as equally as he was. If I'd known i wouldn't have another chance to talk to him I would have made the conversation a lot more meaningful.
Dan always struck me as calm and collected, he never rode in anger and rarely let testosterone get to him. I'll always remember him as the chilled out dude with a dodgy sparkle in his eye, but maybe that was only when he was looking at me... heh, gonna miss ya bro.

just remembered a classic story as I was out walking...
Dan and I work in a call centre together, and after he came out of training he was on the opposite end of the floor to where I sit. We used to wind each other up on MSN for a bit, but one time I managed to find a WAV (audio) file on the network of Chewbacca from Star Wars doing his WWARRRR noise.
I sent this over to Dan for a laugh, and within 3 seconds heard the noise of Chewbacca sounding out across the entire floor, he'd had the audio turned up full when opening the file... there must have been like 30-40 people working at the time, and everyone just stopped. I immediately burst out laughing to the point of nearly pissing myself, Dan was doing the same.
From that point on we both set it up as our TXT alert on our mobiles, and every time I get a TXT it reminds me of that time and brings a smile to my face.
I'll upload the audio clip when I find it, it's great.

WW and all of Dan's family, I'm so sorry you're having to go through this
From the stories & comments people have been posting up, it sounds like your son touched people's lives for all the right reasons.
Please know that there are loads of us here thinking of you and many praying for strength for you.
I wish I'd been on Coro loops/rides he'd been on and been able to meet him.

I didnt know Dan, but reading through this post but shivers through my entire body...
WW & Family you should be very proud of such an amazing 21 year old, he has clearly touched so many people. He obviously was someone that loved life, and lived it to the full - hold on to those memories!
As per your request I will do what I can about the 'cheese cutters' and would be proud to ride in any procession for Dan!
Just let us know when and where!
My deep condolences - Phil 021 520 639!

Just found this thread yesterday (and it has taken until now to read through it all) .
Been out of the loop for a while.
I heard of the accident on the news, and was a bit shocked.... to say the least.
RIP Dan, even though I didn't know you, this still gives me a BIG reality check.
WW, family, and friends , my heart felt condolences go out to you all.

Any more, then it's payback for all the times he put Roy Orberson "Stand by me" on at full volume when I was watch or trying to watch the news.

did you forget that felix and I spend at least half of every day staring at a screen, sorting some various issue?
Or I could send you some software that will easily resize pics for ya (batches if needed)
Still a nice pic... I made Felix do one like that... he likes to be behind the camera normally...

Found VSO image resier on Dan computer, never really been into this modern stuff where you don't have a negative and an enlarger, Ah well we all have to come into the 21st century sometime I suppose, it was bad enough getting used to the 20th one:rolleyes:
even so its a great picture of you lot, and is now set as my desktop, so I have to look at your mug every time I start it up:eek:
