Welcome to Kiwibiker Josh.

May you have decades and decades ahead of fun, safe riding (once you get a licence, bike, gear and a job to pay for it all).

Patience mate, you will get there soon enough. What are your parents like at spending on birthday presents hint hint?! Christmas isn't THAT far away.

Looks like the driving age is going up...

Not so much the age that needs looking at, the power of the cars that the young people are driving. Your only allowed a 250 on a L bike is for a reason , you cant possibly contemplate the power of the bigger bikes , (found that out myself recently). Even then its not so much age as experience, i think the system should be changed so that on your learners car u can drive anything under 1ltr, and then up to any non turbo ed 2ltr, on full any capacity - non turbo ed or supercharged. that should be a separate L as should SUV/4X4. also for those last 2 one should have to do defensive driving. Just my 2 cents, Of course this would reduce the number of big gas hungry cars on the road, therefore less revenue = Not likely to happen , the govt would rather install biker killing barriers then reduce there income from tax.

Welcome to KB. Hope you learn lots and make good friend like I have. Take your time, be safe, wear all the right gear, do a Ride Safe Course, and avoid the idiots who encourage you to race and you will be fine. Hope you enjoy the forum

Ya after bleating in my own thread about gears i forget to mention it hear. Get the gears, i got away wit helm + jacket , that was after years on dirties tho , My second bit of advice, look at the survival guide , my third bit of advice, come ride over waiheke island, its a brutal set of roads but u learn gravel and pot hole tactics, ask my mate And like unit said dont race idiot boy racers when ur still learning , as tempting as it might be , and enjoy the flexibility a 250 offers which no other bike has, good acceleration , handling and easy 2 ride all day. Even wit my new bike i still to a point miss my GPX , she was a very nice 250 and not nearly as demanding as my new mistress.

Hi Josh. Welcome to the site. Safety first my man. Read up about motorcycling safety and when you buy a bike, budget to get all the safety gear at the same time. "All the Gear. All the Time"

Bro, tell ya what, get pro-active and start putting yourself into situations where you'll learn stuff constantly.

Go to the library and get books out of the motorcycle section, get yourself a job - ideas like - kitchen hand, paper boy, assistant (any job is better than no job and don't frikkin take rejection too deep, it's all apart of learning), don't hang around with too many people that drain/sap your soul (you probably know what I mean, the firkkin 'cool' kids that are mostly dickheads), DO hang around motorcycle shops (but just watch out for some of the bigot salesclerk who think they run the world) and if you're lucky enough some awesome motrobike mechanic will take you up for work experience/assistant.

Just remember, as long as you're putting yourself out there constantly and having a clear set of goals, you'll be sweet.
Just be pro-active like I said and the girls will come running to you!

And plus you've got all of us here to support you. :headbang:
