and I was just wondering, does anyone know anything about them?
Has anyone ridden one? Does anyone own one?

I've asked around my friends, and so far noone knows anything about these, so if anyone has anything to say about them, please do :D

Rode a 400 2 stroke mx bike years ago & not seen many since. The Brookes brothers in New Plymouth are importing 1000cc MZ road bikes & have sold a few.

Not a good first bike, in comparison to a cheap old Japanese bike. But the oldies are going to rave about them.

true, yeah i was just wondering.. I personally hate fairings on a bike, looks wise, and liked the look of this, hence want to know anythign about them..

any reason its not a good first?

(oh, btw, I plan to get a bike within the first 6 months of next year. yay!)

its cheap enough innit? especially if it comes with that spare gearbox beside it.

it seems to be spewing petrol from the carby area too.

Here's my thread from last year MZ 250 2-stroke, oh my god I want it. (http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php?t=44544) with some informed comment from some people.
I really like the look of them, brutal, tough, uncompromising. Eastern european.

I do like your sence of humour.

Some gent did a tour of Africa on a modified one, bigger tank, raised front guard and not much else.

Now that I think of it. Bumped into a chap a month or so ago at Pongaroa, middle of knowwere, on one. Engineer by trade he was. Seemed happy enough toodleing along on it.

There's two of the racing down here, I rode one in a race earlier this year

To say they're slow is a understatement, a guy on a modified CB125 single was pulling away from me, they have even less engine braking than a normal two stroke as the clutch is mounted on the end of the crank

Very slow to accelerate to the maximum indicated speed of around 110kmh down the front straight of Ruapuna, brakes have very little feel but I think could be made better with a change of master cylinder size

No real powerband to speak of in fact no real power to speak of, although the guys in the UK racing them say you can get 40hp out of them(they have a race class for them)

Kind of cool in a "old shitter" kind of way
I'd own one tomorrow if I could afford to have another bike lying around

Weird Harold anti bling cult bike for the alternative lifestylers, duffle coat affectionado's and social misfits that totally reject modern marketing and stylists.

Fanatical following and trust me - if you are a young single female, join an MZ site and be prepared for the onset of extreme mating rituals and illuminating offers from the worlds Kooks...

i havn't actually. I know someone that has one though. It's a pretty nice bike, though I'd have to check it out further... I'm doing some serious browsing as of late so it may be a good idea... though I'm worried it may be a little too high...

Don't look too far past the wee Volty's if you need a good bike to get your license on. I'm surprised how easy it is to do the basic handling maneuvers on, is good for 120kmh if you give it a good run, and a very cool design.
Klingon and Kanny will probably support my view.

Curious_AJ

awesome. Yeah, I'm quite nervous about the basic handling. Hence It would be awesome if I could learn a little on a farm or something somewhere.. I do know a couple of people with farms to do it on...

but yes, back to the MZ. It's been informative, what you guys have said. If I get a chance to actually view the bike, then I'll get someone to take it for a ride etc. and I'd have a seat to see if the bum matches the bike or visa versa. lol.

lol, I don't mind russians :p

yeah, I may have a look at it.. though I don't want to spend much extra on the bike as I'm kinda poor. So reasonable quality is the thing, and I heard tires are quite dear?
