Seriously dude, this is starting to get annoying... You choose to ride a geared motorcycle, so stay in the non-scooter part of KiwiBiker... You post enough garbage in the standard forum, and there's still enough space on there for you to keep posting there (even though most of the people are probably sick of it)

Why join in? I know you started the whole KiwiBiker forum, but you did create a Scooters subforum... I would've thought better of the founder of KiwiBiker to start dissing other bikers just because they prefer scooters to geared motorcycles...

Oh dear!
You have hit upon the very crux of the biker/scooter conflict.
A scooter may well be "just another way of getting from A to B" but to most real bikers that attitude is totally alien.
Proper motorcycles are for themselves, for the feeling, the sport, the thrill, etc etc, not mere transport.
The best scooterists see this also, and value their scoots as more than just one step up from a bus.
Sadly, I think you have revealed what camp you are in!

I have been resisting entering into this debate, but then I read the above and couldn't have put it any better. To me it is more than a mode of transport to get from A-B. It is the feeling you get when your on open roads and twisties. The feeling of freedom and the thrill of all of the senses having to work together to make the right decisions.

Nope, I think you've just nailed one of the patronising attitudes bikers have towards scooters...

With the money I've spent on my Lammy making it go faster I could have bought a bike that would be twice as fast straight out of the box...but that would just be boring.

I don't want to turn up at a ride-out to find three bikes exactly like mine, and I don't want to have to dress up like a tube of toothpaste to ride it either...

I think this implys that only girls or gay guys are rideing them and if you (straight) are unfortunate enough to ride one you will probably be assumed by the general public as a lovely girl or a gay guy.. if people want to make scooters seem less gay they should probably advertise it more with straight guys on it with girls. like the ones zero index posted above.. but really to all you straight scooter riders you should really get a motorbike to save you this dilemma but sexy lady scooter riders feel free to continue scootering

Hey all,

I ride a motorbike but I don't see anything wrong with people wanting to drive scooters. Sure, I chose not to ride a scooter precisely because of how it looked it, they just don't do it for me. But i'm not going to bag somebody else if they want to ride it.
I *wouldn't* say that people should ride scooters with any less gear though... getting smacked over by a car isn't going to hurt any less if you're on a scooter.

I'm mostly posting here because this attitude stirred a response:

You choose to ride a geared motorcycle, so stay in the non-scooter part of KiwiBiker...

you dont even ride a motorcycle or scooter, so GET OFF KIWIBIKER!
there are plenty of other sites around for you to post on

We're all bikers of sorts, we're all distinct from cagers - scooters and motorbike alike. Yes we all choose to ride for different reasons and our motorbike or scooter each carry their own distinct styles, abilities, and properties - but I wouldn't say this means that scooter riders can't view or post elsewhere other than here and that this area is a biker-free-zone!

Secondly, I know at least one person on KB who has a car in their 'motorbike' property area (and what a nice motorbike it is). KB is a community, why close doors and put up walls where there doesn't need to be any. People should feel free to browse KB and post whether they own a motorbike, scooter, or are simply interested (heck, we even have a wannabe sub-forum, suggesting this is an official position).

Well, well, well.
I have a foot in both camps, does that make me Bi?

I ride a Hayabusa, but could not afford to do so with out my commuter scooter.

Truth be told I am more likely to lose my license or get killed on the scooter, and few "real" bikers can keep up with me on the scooter when we are both obeying speed limits.

I used to be a scooter snob, but after 3 months of scootering (2,500km's) I have saved the cost of the second hand scooter in fuel, half the cost in maintenace and it is more practical than riding a Hayabusa through 8kms of 50km zone.

Travel time is lower because you can split more easily and less prep before you go.
Going to West Auckland for physio on my back when i sprained it was more viable on the scooter, and 10 minutes quicker on the return.

Since the advent of the scooter I have better timing on the 'busa because you have to have excellent timing on the scooter to be in the right revs to make a hill stick with a 110cc two stroke hauling 150kgs up the hills on the way to and from work.

There are two statements that really come to mind everytime someone questions the manhood of the scooter:
Real men do not measure manhood in cc's.
Scooters are like fat chicks, just as much fun to ride until your mates find out.
