View Full Version : Do you identify yourself as your KB identity on rides?

idleidolidyll
26th October 2007, 16:14
I don't and I never even ask the identities of the other riders I meet. I don't want to know their aliases, I'm more interested in their names.

Yes, I'd rather judge them on the way they act in real life than on preconceived notions based on their posts here.

I've been pleasantly surprised occasionally after someone has pointed out an online 'enemy' and I know others have been surprised when I've been pointed out AFTER they got to know me in reality.

I must say I smile when I see those KB tee shirts. I suppose if I could be bothered buying one it'd come complete with a large dartboard or target printed on front and back.

I wouldn't wear a shirt for kr.com (http://www.kr.com/) either.

But this place is fine, I am happy people know I am part of KB.

I don't and I never even ask the identities of the other riders I meet. I don't want to know their aliases, I'm more interested in their names.

I felt exceptionally sad introducing myself to Col as "car" when for some reason I'd introduced myself to Merv as "Chris" five minutes earlier. Although I know people who call each other by their usernames, despite sitting just a desk away.

merv
26th October 2007, 16:50
I like to know both names so I can match the personalities up - remembering them though that is another issue.

For me when I tell you my name its merv and Merv which is kinda easy.

Mom
26th October 2007, 16:51
My friends know me by name.........be that my alias, or my name. My "real name" is used on here from time to time too.....Meh......I am me! no different in person than on here........so be careful guys....:devil2:

hXc
26th October 2007, 17:01
"Hi, I'm hXc, or Zac."

That's my usual answer. What's the point in having a username if you don't tell people what it is for fucks sake?! I go to places where KBers are to meet new KBers and if I can't identify them...no point.

Maybe you're just too ashamed to tell people your username.:dodge:

Virago

It is interesting that you speak of "enemies", "dartboards" and "targets".

For most of us it is about Friendship, Cameraderie, and Fellowship.

I guess some of us are here for different reasons...

riffer
26th October 2007, 18:18
Most people know me as Simon, as riffer is only used on KB. Doesn't worry me either way. The bike has RIFFER in white letters on the windscreen so you can recognise it tomorrow

(someone will probably knock it over and scrawl anti-mod writing on it with spray paint now...)

BIGBOSSMAN
26th October 2007, 18:21
I introduce myself usually as Bigbossman, Bossman, Big (if ya know what I mean).
Then once people get to know me they use names for me such as, wank, prick, cock, egotist etc.

26th October 2007, 21:30
I think ninjas need to keep their name concealed, since it is their word of power and to stop other enemy ninjas from using it against them... :eek5:

I've had KBers come up and say "you must be gijoe1313" and I dunno how they know that! :innocent: I mean, really I wear ninja molten red camo gear! How could they possibly see me?

Bad enough using my real moniker, get all the jokes .... "I bet you say that to all the girls", "Just in time eh?" , "Just in case..." etc. etc.

All good, I like bikers, they are an anarchic bunch of rapscallions, ne'er do wells, scallywags, Johnny-be-rotten, Blaggards and other such lowlife ilk! :2thumbsup

I still remember when the Southside crew rode up north and IdleIdolIdyll did the big "Herro! Here I am!" speech

sunhuntin
26th October 2007, 21:45
ive been sunhuntin online since about 2003. when i went to canada, i got redubbed as kiwi... my partner thought that was my real name for several weeks, lol. [hell, during a domestic over there, i got introed to the cops as sunhuntin, lmfao.] first few months i was simply "sun" and it took a while to readjust.

i have a patch with sunhuntin on it which i wear anywhere i might meet a kber. my canadian leather jacket has kiwi embroidered on it. i will answer to sun, or charley. sometimes i wont answer at all, lmfao. [as found by crashe... lmfao]

i will call people by their usernames more often than not. i introduced a new friend to mum by their username, and got a funny look in return, lmfao. i also mark cell phones by the username. [makes it easier... there might be 10 johns on here, but theres only one each of il4 and mstrs]

Mr Merde
26th October 2007, 22:00
Online I'm Merde.

Face to face I'm Chris.

My online persona is a means of granting me some semblence of anonimity.

It also is a statement.

Meet me in person I am a boring old fart well past his use by date, good for a yarn or two, very opinionated but well past the time where i think that my opinions actually count for anything more than a minor byline.

As Mr Merde and anonymous I can delude myself that just occasionally I can make a difference.

Calling me by my real name is trying to pick a fight on line or off.
Outside of work I don't encourage that terrible name and loathe the way everyone wants to contract it.

If your a good enough person to want to know me, and the feeling is mutual you may call me Big Dog, Dog or Nash.
But no I don't go out of my way to introduce myself at social things until I have decided who I want to talk to.
Unfortunately the legend preceeds, more often than not I have not even got the helmet off and someone is saying "so, you must be Big Dog". Somewhat entertaining is when they say "Big Dave", "Colapop" et al.
I let some strange dude at the 'Busa's new year party think I was Col because even after correction he kept calling me polarcock. Ah the joys of sobriety at parties lol.

Anyway back on topic Most people know who I am when they meet me so the username doesn't mean much. Being a relatively new KB'r and a relatively observant chap, I find it interesting to turn up to events and try to pick out the KB'rs before I get introduced. I have had some interesting surprises.

Ive been getting called trumpy...I kinda like it.....My real name is Tanya NOT Tania, TAN-YA and people never seem to get that right so when Im on my bike trump lady is easier......

Plus when I ride Im kinda like someone else

Tanya deals with poor families their problems and bullshit. Tanya is grown up and responsible. Shes boring

trump-lady likes to ride and not think about anything but the road ahead of her

so call me what u want......just be nice cause theres another ego u dont wanna meet :)

Some people know me, some do not. I have met some good friends on here and some I have even worked with (in the past) and not known they were on here. Most are just friends I have not met yet.

I do not see the point of "hiding" or being another persona behind a computer screen. Life is life, you are responsible for your actions whether online or not. You are who you are, some may like it some may not. People change.

It is very sad to see the flaming and negativity that goes on here - (one of the reasons, I don't post a lot) its a shame, I do not see the point in it, it is not constructive nor helps anyone.
Some take it to heart, and others may miss meeting a good person and enjoying their friendship through life.

It is time to be proactive and not reactive. I am proud of who I have become as a person, my log on name is simply that, my name.

People have their reasons for what they do, however, right or wrong it may seem to another individual. A person is defined by what they choose to do with the information presented to them in life.

Life is definately not what it used to be.

27th October 2007, 08:36
Firstly, I don't usually go on KB rides. Secondly, I'm even more annoying (yet strangely forgettable) in person, and people don't usually even 'see' me, so names don't come into it. Lastly, those that do have some sort of communication with me call me by my given name (if I can remember it....)

Oh - and Im not really Vifferman anyway. I started on KB as Firestormer, and have also been GoatFood, farQ2, Beelzebub, and on other forums I'm Viffer, VifFerraRi, and enzed_viffer.

I introduce myself as Pancakes. I never remember peoples names anyway let alone two of them and I pretty much say on here what I'd say to peoples face so I don't mind that they link the two up. Can see why people would want to have a fresh start tho! some of the crap that's posted up!

Thursday night after the ATNR I said "Pancakes" and got an "ooooh!, Your Pancakes!" which made me wonder which post/posts they were thinking of!!

People normally are way different to what I imagine they'd look like.

I'm a crafty bugger. On here I am Patrick, but in the real world, I am Patrick... I keep the two worlds apart. Who would know....

Don't confuse me.

Over years of being on various forums Ive gotten used to being introduced as Bullitt however when Im doing it Ill usually use real name.

Though on KB ive found more people seem to recognise my Jazz Jackrabbit avitar than anything else, hence why I wrote Rabbit beside it, was never my intention.

I like knowing peoples user name so I can match them up with their online persona, however id normally talk to them as their real name unless they prefered the nic.

I usually just say that I'm Mrs Kendog to KBers, and get the same thing as Pancakes, "Oh YOU'RE Mrs Kendog", and I think, oh crap, what have they read? And then I usually get, "I thought you'd be older"..... than what exactly?:shit:

I have been know as nighthawk for years... my old man you use to call me a little nighthawk as I would never go to bed... as a CBer years ago my call sign was NA-717 Nighthawk. Most places on the net I am known as Nighthawk including most of my music sites I am involved with and if the name is taken as it was on KB i usually and NZ (and the bastard has made fracking only 13 posts is a 18 months... bugger :(

When I introduce myself, 9 times out of 10, I will say what name I want to be know by first as what you are first introduced as, people will remember. I had a friend whos nick name was Swing and I was introduced to by that name... I flatted with him for 5 years before I found out his real name...

I am pretty much like what I am like in real life as I am on the forums... I ain't got nothing to hide, and give out Piss takes as fast as I get them...

for me, either name is equally valid. Actually, i find it a little odd that people consider a name given to them by someone else more real than one they picked out for them self.

I bloody told ya in the photo thread, you make too much sense and "sound" too mature in your posts!

I give both names, Wolf and Jon. I've been known on sight as "Wolf" by so many for so long (outside the KB community) and I've never seen the point in hiding my legal name (or my bike's registration number). For me, the nickname is to make us uniquely named on the site (the popularity of "John", "Mark" and other Biblical names being a major factor), not to hide behind.

And fuck all use trying to hide anyway as my bike and helmet have wolf decals (courtesy of MSTRS) and, unless I'm wearing trackpants or togs, I invariably wear a belt with a wolf-themed pewter buckle (I have 5 to choose from).

As to carrying baggage from the site, I don't prejudge people based on what they've posted here or whether or not we've had run-ins on the forums and I don't care if people are going to prejudge me based on my posts.

My main thing upon meeting KBers is how little they look like I imagined.

Waylander was slimmer, Ixion was younger and heavier, Bonez was a lot hairier...

Haven't yet met anyone and looked at them and said "you've just gotta be..."

At my first KB meet, some beefcake came up to me and asked if I was Finn. I said that I wasn't and pointed to Skidmark who proceeded to get a beating.

Heh, hence I used the term "legal name" - I couldn't bring myself to call it my "real" name.

"Jon" (or "John") means "God is Gracious" - Helluva name for a pagan.

It was given to me as my father's parents were pushing for me to be named "Jack" and that was the closest my mum was prepared to get. Not a bad name (once I used Deed Poll to change it from the more common "John" to "Jon" which at least looks a little different) but prone to cause confusion in some areas when you have more than three people of that name. (One of my college classes fortunately only had three of us so it was only mildly confusing)

"Wolf", however, is a lot more appropriate. Probably a lot more "real" than my legal name.

I've also answered to a lot of other nicknames - both self-selected and bestowed-upon me - over the years with various groups of friends/co-workers.

Hi my name is Dale, also known as Nighthawk...

Sounds very true. He does bring in the mail, but he only looks for his own name. Unless he thinks I like being known as "the occupant"

I have been Xaria online for over 10 years now, so I answer to it equally. If I have chatted to someone frequently, I have trouble remembering their "real" name and refer to their online name.

Mandownunder, Nigel, Niggle, Nidge, Nignog, Nigger, Nigga

I think that's all of them. I'm not too worried. Nigel's arguably a bugger of a name but I don't care - this is me - like it or fuck off (ooooOOOooo all brave online huh?)

Then there's the cheesel Ad ("it's worth a crack Nigel... Nigel?"), and the ever famous "We're only making plans for Nigel"

Meh. If people are surprised at who someone is based on their behaviour online vs real life - then I ask the question - why is there a difference? That's something I don;t understand. Those that know me well would probably expect 99% of what I say on here to be consistance with what I'd say/be in real life... well I hope they would!

Closest I came to it was looking at a BMW then looking in utter surprise at the rider and saying "you must be Ixion." I'd seen him a little while earlier and had no idea who he was - it was the bike that was the give-away.
