For some reason I am attempting to restore this old classic, I'm not sure why but it is fun and the bike actually goes really well so wtf. If anyone in my neck of the woods has any parts, a frame, seat, engine parts, rolling chassis or even (let's be optimistic) a whole bike that is worthless as a bike and taking up space, then drop me a message and let's negotiate a ransom for it.

OK I have given in and bought a new front and rear guard, ex UK and they look awesome. I got a replacement seat and rear swingarm so these should be here by the weekend. I will probably get the seat recovered depending on how bad it is, and the swingarm will get cleaned up and painted ready for new bushes and bearings when I can find them... still looking for side covers, can't find these anywhere either new or used.

New plastics, seat, levers, grips and Renthal bars, looks better and more importantly feels better. Better go and get it dirty I guess. I'm still on the lookout for a pair od TT250 side covers if anyone knows where some are.

Yes definitely, looks like quite a collection you have going on there. What do you want for the whole lot? :)

Thanks for the pile of bits Lindsay (LB99) I've been playing all afternoon. If anyone has a couple of side covers or knows where I can get aftermarket ones I'd appreciate it, seems they make a shitload of Honda plastics but not much for the old Yumahas.

The TT above is now completely dismantled and the engine in bits on my bench. The reason it wasn't running was probably the bits of the piston that fell off into the bottom end, and the piece of exhaust valve that got vaporised in the top end, probably not redeemable. When the piston hit the valve bits it must have stressed the cam shaft too cos the top cam sprocket has ripped itself off the cam shaft! So now I'm on the lookout for a piston, barrel and head for an XT, TT or SR 250. I see someone is selling an SR250 motor on Turdeme, does anyone know if the gear rations are the same? It would be neat to have electric start!

you said you wanted to learn about engines, heres your chance. :p

me- I have to suss out the wiring for that 750, the battery was in backwards so theres some burnt wires (lots).

Hi Lindsay, no worries, still a lot of fun! I squirted some CRC onto the rusted piston combo so I can probaly get that off tomorrow. Actually the pistons not that bad, the bits it's missing are off the bottom so probably in the engine! I will pull the other motor apart tomorrow, I'm sure I can get one out of the two but of course I want two out of the two. Plus you have to add a comment every day or so or the thread dissappears! The reat of that first engine is pretty sweet so I may just flush it out at it is and reuse it with a renewed top end...

:niceone: I'm glad you are having fun, I love my junk pile

I am pretty sure I saw a manual in pdf on the net the other day, so I'll try to track it down and post a link.

By the way there's another box of rusty old bits to come, I havn't seen it yet but the guy is going to drop it off in the next few days, I'll bring it over next month.

Just bought a paper copy of the clymer manual so hopefully the photo of what happens when you split the cases is not covered in thumb prints, I'm kinda expecting a lot of springs and gears flying out.
I pulled the second engine apart last night and it is in mint condition, I can't really think why it had been partially dismantled as there is nothing wrong with the top end and the rest of it looks mint. I cleaned the first engine and discovered why it came with a spare half case, it has had a dodgy repair on the clutch casing with that putty stuff that hardens to a rock and with the grease off it looks a bit bodgy. So now the plan is to rebuild the good engine (number 2) and hope that it hadn't been dismantled for a stripped gear box or something similar. Then I'll do the amazing spring thing and attempt to swap out the damaged half casing of engine 1. I guess this is probably the wrong forum for this discussion but I still want any old XT, TT or SR 250 parts so that part is still right.

This isn't really the right forum for this discussion so I have started a new one here:
