Yeah I think in Kiwifruits mind it already in the garage! I've seen them in the flesh and i've seen them being thrashed and yeah it a nice bike alright but it really depends on where your heads at, I dont see how they are 14 or 15 grand better than the ZX10, R1, GRX-R and so on. Yes I hav'nt ridden one but at this point if I won lotto I would'nt bother but if they are your passion then by all means, thats what choices are for.
I'd like a R1, ZX14, SuperDuke R and a '08 V-Max in my garage.....damn....i'm off to buy me some more tickets....

Enjoy the MV if you get one Kiwifruit, i'm sure you will.

Having different opinions is what being an individual is all about. It's all good. Have to agree the Aprilia has great kit for less money, in particular the Tuono is a big favourite of mine. If you do ride a 312 I know you'll love it, but it's always good to be able to have time to set the suspension for your personal tastes, so hope you have a good long fang on some good twisties and have a bit of a fiddle with the settings.:apint:

make sure you do an uber test ride - see if you reckon the gap for your wrist / arm is big enough between the "wing" at the top of the petrol tank and the handle bar grips and is comfy for you. the ducatis leave enough space between tank and handlebar grips for their "open turning circles" but boy-oh-boy its a small gap on the mv's. the worst of it would only be slow speed turns prob. and slow speed turns won't really be on the menu ;) mv's ... oh what a savage tool :crybaby:

Kiwifruit,

There is only one sensible thing to do after you bin your Ten. Get another one!!!

May I recommend the NEW 2008 Zx10R (in black). Its suppossed to be alot like the 2005 ZX10R which, if you know your Kwaka's, means its got knife edge handling and one of the most insane motors on the planet with a top end that will scare the shit out of you every time.

The 2008 ZX10R is gonna be LOADS better to ride then an MV Agusta F4, not to mention cheaper to buy and cheaper to run. Dont forget its also gonna have MotoGP style traction control which wont really matter on the street but should do very well on the track. Here is a blurb on the new bike:

For the 2008 NINJA® ZX™-10R, Kawasaki engineers aimed for an ideal superbike with engine and chassis performance capable of satisfying professional racers, combined with top-notch streetbike qualities for mainstream riders. It’s a delicate balance, but these aren’t your average engineers. They’ve been directly involved in the development of every 600 and 1000cc supersport machine since the 2003 Ninja ZX-6R, plus Kawasaki’s factory Superbike racing efforts, so they have the know-how to deliver the goods.

The result is an exceptionally communicative machine that provides the clean two-way rider/machine dialog demanded by professional racers. Placing the ZX-10R in the racing crucible and applying lessons from that unforgiving environment resulted in an ideal balance to satisfy the most demanding of riders. Japanese Superbike racer Akira Yanagawa was the man pushing the engine and frame components to the limits of their performance in actual competition. Parts that met with Yanagawa’s approval were then tried on the production test bike, tweaked, retested on the racer and adjusted again. This process was repeated throughout the development cycle for the all-new 2008 Ninja ZX-10R.

At the heart of this capable package is a new engine tuned for even greater high-rpm performance, without sacrificing the stellar mid-range performance of its predecessor. Refinements include installing secondary fuel injectors, changing to oval throttle bodies and reshaping the intake ports. Intake flow was further enhanced with reshaped ram air ducts and a larger airbox that feeds into the new oval shaped velocity stacks. Exhaust efficiency was boosted with a new system that not only flows better but generates less noise and emissions. And to suit the enhanced power delivery, the transmission features new gear ratios for 1st, 4th and 5th gears along with an extra tooth on the rear sprocket. These changes make it essentially a race-ready engine with performance similar to Kawasaki’s factory Superbikes.

Professional riders know it’s useless to have the most power if you can’t get it to the ground. The 2008 Ninja ZX-10R features a new ignition system that assists with torque management by monitoring throttle opening, gear position and rate of RPM change, then retarding ignition timing to reduce torque when sudden unwanted RPM spikes are detected. This system doesn’t interfere with normal operation and still allows the engine to rev freely under typical riding conditions.

A superb engine deserves a superb chassis, and this is where the new ZX-10R really shines. To achieve the best-possible handling, Kawasaki used the lessons learned at the track to build a list of refinements including: changing the length of the steering tube and moving it 10mm forward, alleviating stress concentrations through subtle changes to the frame stampings (switching concave parts to convex pieces), increasing the wall thickness around the relocated swingarm pivot, adding ribbing on the interior of the pivot plate, and mounting a narrower, two-piece sub-frame to the main frame’s upper cross member.

With a fully-adjustable 43mm inverted fork and a new swingarm that uses pressed instead of cast beams, the ZX-10R’s track orientated suspension endows the chassis with better feedback. Refinements include adding a Diamond Like Carbon (DLC) coating to the fork tubes for less stiction and enhanced feedback, relocating the springs to the bottom of the fork for reduced oil frothing, and new settings that are better-suited for racetrack use. Rear suspension changes include dual (low and high-speed) compression damping on the fully-adjustable rear shock for better fine-tuning, a new mounting spot for the Uni-Trak® linkage and a re-shaped swingarm with a top-mounted brace.

No part was left untouched on the ZX-10R, even the wheels are new. Produced using a squeeze-casting process instead of the earlier gravity casting method, the new wheels are lighter, stiffer and more precise, to perfectly match the new chassis. The lower unsprung weight of the wheels helps improve suspension action and their reduced rotational inertia provides quicker steering and acceleration.

Braking duties are handled by radial mounted Tokico brake calipers squeezing new 310mm petal discs which are 10mm larger for 2008, and feature reduced thickness from 6 to 5.5mm for better heat dispersion. The rear is a 220mm petal disc squeezed by a single-piston caliper.

The designers didn’t rest when it came to styling either. Given great freedom with the 2008 ZX-10R, their efforts are illustrated in the clean design with superb fit and finish. While shaping the rear frame, tank and seat to offer improved ergonomics and increase the rider’s contact with the bike, they also refined its aerodynamics from a new front cowling to the sharp, minimalist tail cowl.

The result of these efforts is a slim and compact package with the presence befitting its Ninja name.

Apparently he was in Italy @ a MV function & got a wee bit tipsy & said MV's are shit & was over heard my head sherang, who took out on one the next day & offered him a Senna half price if he'd set a MV race team, nice :headbang:

Yes, isn't it odd that the people in favour of MV ownership are the people who've actually ridden them...

It's a little too easy for wet-behind-the-ears rice rocket riders to look at spec sheets and price tags and go "pfft".Indeed! Still puts me in my happy place thinking about the day I got to try the Brutale and the Senna out for myself. They really are in a league of their own.

Test Ride Report:

Brutale R - Upright and uptight, almost angry you might say.
F4 - Down low, not slow and it sounds nice.

Action shot...

jrandom

Photos attached.

This F4-1000 was definitely the best-sounding bike I've ever ridden. The non-stock exhaust gave it the perfect combination of growl and howl.

Handling-wise, very different, very interesting. At first I thought it was a little recalcitrant, overly heavy perhaps, but then I figured out the inputs required and it was just fine. It's much more settled and solid feeling than your average Jap literbike. Move over slightly and push into the bars rather than down on them and it gently carves into corners rather than tipping and skipping. Inputs that would have a GSX-R jumping all over the place simply do not affect the F4 at all.

A number of times I thought 'oh dear, this is going to have me feeling unsettled', but the bike simply flowed through the corner without any fuss whatsoever. I could have safely used twice the power I did at almost every point on our test ride.

It's a bike that can be ridden very, very fast, I'd say, and can use all of its power, unlike the cheap 'n' cheerful K2 GSX-R1000 I rode to get to AMPS for the demo!

The rear Pirelli Diablo on the F4 was well and truly shagged; both Finn and I had it sliding under brakes on Old North Road. AMPS will have to bite the bullet and fit a new rear pre-sale on this bike, one way or the other.

In terms of power, it feels about as fast as the current crop of Japanese literbikes. The particularly-sensitive fuel injection is noteworthy. Winding the throttle on, though, particularly with the exhaust on this bike, gives you much more of an immersive experience. It's intense. Intimidating almost. One gets the feeling that mastering the F4-1000 would result in a large number of cheaper superbikes being left struggling far behind in one's wake.

Frankly, it'd be too much bike for me.

Finn's Brutale, on the other hand?

I've always wanted one, and a quick blast on the Brutale R confirms that I was right. I was actually giggling into my helmet coming down the set of twisties below the intersection of Old North and Peak Roads.

I'll 'ave one, I will I will. The power and the glory and the rush and the fear are not so present as with the F4, but the Brutale is just so easy to ride.

Now that goes some way to helping me understand what all the fuss is about...

Mmm, yes indeed.

In fact, the best concise way that I can describe the F4-1000 is that the engine feels and sounds like it wants to kill you, and the suspension simply doesn't let it.

Corners and velocities which would have me starting to pucker up and feel both ends of the bike get unsettled on my current stock-suspension K2 GSX-R had the F4 doing no more than lazily clearing its throat and flexing its knees.

In fact, it's the very first bike I've ridden on SH28 and Old North Road that's left me genuinely feeling that, given a few days to play, I could have my knee down on many of those corners without a care in the world.

Engine in the Brutale is smaller (910 vs 1000) and is tuned for a better torque curve, slightly less power. Feels like a 250 GP bike with higher bars. Power of the 1000 is very addictive, especially the Tamburini which has amazing torque as well (due to the TSS system). Brutale is a wheelie monsta for sure, there's talk of a 1078R Brutale, EICMA show in Milan may show something like this, tell ya next week.:devil2:

I'm not very good at bike right ups but the Brutale and F4 are completely different bikes. The seating position alone makes all the difference. I went for the Brutale because I already had half a sports bike (litre jappa) and I wanted something different. I ride it every day and each time I throw my little legs over it, it's just like the first time. The enjoyment never disappears and it's a great all rounder. Jrandom jumped on it and was throwing it around the place like it was an abused maori kid. As he says, its an easy bike to ride.

In saying that, I'll replace the jappa with another sports bike. I was keen on a 1098s but after riding the F4 with those pipes, I might have to be a complete tosser (no offense MVnut) and have 2 MV's and wait for the 312. The carbon pipes are a must though. It sounds just like a Ferarri.

Hmmm, they sound pretty good with the aftermarket pipes but are pretty flat with the stockers. I looked at buying 750 a few years back and thought to myself I'd have to get the pipes, looked at the price for them and that basically put me off the deal.
Best sounding bike? Big call...I can remember hearing a Honda CBX1000 with a 6 into 1 way back in the day and that was pretty special...'course it came with the factory fitted hinge in the middle of the frame so as fantastic as it sounded it it handled equally badly.....

I was running a bit late and just before Greenlane off ramp going north I see an F4 and a silver something, heading south. I do a quick exit and do the roundabout thing and see a black Cbr I think, get back onto on ramp heading south and there is another F4 in the left hand lane. They must be getting common as muck in Auckland glad they got rid of one. Anyway catch up with Kfriut, indicate I need gas, lead the way to BP Drury for gas. Fitted the video and off to Hwy 22 via pukie. Video not too bad but its like baby photo's only interesting to the parents. Will post it monday.
Have you stopped looking at it yet. It will still be there in the morning you know. Enjoy it, beautiful bike.
