Things moving forward fast now so I need to get my bikes fixed and sold starting with the Virago.
Simple stuff really, just polishing, fixing dents and repainting ect, ect...

Engine and frame are sweet as so no need to worry about them.

Started last Saturday stripping the paint from the dents and sanding smooth in prep for bog. then sanding it all smooth. Did pretty good for my first attempt. Can barely feel where the dents were. More work to come to get it better.

Then primer applied to areas with bare metal and sanded smooth. At this point I decided not to do all this on the bike as my dad suggested so tonight I removed the tank and fenders from the bike

Work still to be done before paint, get rid of the rest of the tank decal, clean off remaining rust spots and another dent at the front of the tank, and more primer and sanding before painting on Saturday.

Pics of the bike s it is now to come as soon as I sort out how to shrink them.

Sadly no but let's just say it's a wonder I have been riding it so long without getting pulled over for something.

Photos are up on photobucket HERE. (http://s224.photobucket.com/albums/dd145/Waylander24_photos/Virago%201100%20project/)

And yes I will clean my garage before painting on saturday. Even have a big sheet of plastic to make a sort of tent thing to keep dust off.

A few spots of bog and new layers of paint makes me the Mod king?

Found some pics of what it used to look like.
First three pics (http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=29772&d=1144542722) on the top right are it, top left is me from when I had short hair.

Big Dave has a few from a while go, when it was missing the speedo and tach.
But can't find them as alot of the pictures from over two years go have dissapeared.

Edit, just found these. Aftermath of my first crash somehere north of Helensville and south of Whangarei.

Just dropped the seat off at Ryder Custom Seats today.
Whatever he does with it will be a great improvement over the rotting foam and duct tape.

Cleaned up a few more rust spots yesterday so more sanding to be done tonight to get things all smooth. Also going to remove the gauge cluster so I can get the bracket fixed/welded and clean up and re spray-chrome the pod covers.

Pics to be taken as work is done and posted later.

I think it is aluminium but not too sure. I'll bring it to the pub tomorrow.

Once everything is done and seeing as how older ones than mine are going for about $7-8K, I'll be happy with $4-5k.
Like I said earlier, the frame and motor re sweet as most of the damage is just cosmetic. Only blown forkseals otherwise and those will be fixed shortly as well.

Every bike I've ever owned, I still own.
The Virago, The Vmax and a Honda Rebel.
Any wonder I'm always broke?

Not sure I can afford to take less. Got two other bikes to fix (one of wich could be VERY expensive) and hopefully still have enough money after selling those to buy a car and a bike with a warranty.

EDIT: Who's turned off my cursing dammit.

Ok time for an update and those pics I promised.

This set of pics show what the Gauges looked like. The bracket holding the speedo broken, paint on the pod covers ed and chipped.

Thanks to Bucket boy, a man with many nice toys in his garages (yes, plural) the bracket has been welded and now stronger than ever No more giggly speedo.

Damn what a hassle putting all those wires back into the tiny tiny pace allowed for them.
Bit disappointed that I wasn't able to get the nice fake chrome shine that the gauge pods had on them before but they don't look too bad in the silver. Gonna put a few clear coats on them later to help them shine up a bit more.

headlight instruments area looks much better with much of the mess cleaned up.

Pics here. (http://s224.photobucket.com/albums/dd145/Waylander24_photos/Virago%201100%20project/Guages/)

Also got the fenders sanded down and first coat of primer on.

Tank nearly done just one last layer of Bondo to smooth out a few ripples on the last dent that got left due to an unsteady hand.

Primer will be done on the tank after I hand sand down the first layer on the fenders and take care of any imperfections I see and add another layer of primer.

Pics here. (http://s224.photobucket.com/albums/dd145/Waylander24_photos/Virago%201100%20project/Fenders%20and%20Tank%201/)

damn weather.
Came home early from work to try and get the bits painted and back on the bike but due to the cold and damp air today, the primer hadn't dried properly.
So It'll have to wait till tomorrow night to paint.

Just realized I haven't posted a pic up of the seat yet. macmotortrimmer (http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/member.php?u=5000) did the work for me at a good price too.
Considering that the seat has had holes in it for quite some time and been covered with duct-tape for the better part of two years, he certainly and his work cut out for him.

Pic of finished seat. (http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd145/Waylander24_photos/HPIM0728.jpg?t=1194259342)

Can tell the difference already mate. Hell just in the seat, I can actually feel padding when I sit on it. AND no more wet ass for four days after it rains.

Was raining when I got home today so still not painted. Looks to be sunny tomorrow though so here's hoping it will be done in time to make it to the pub thursday.

Been great weather here in Hamilscum the last few days, any advance on painting your bike or didn't any good weather head out your way?

Bits are painted and waiting for me to put back on the bike. Just gonna finish up the polishing and then do so. Paint could really use polishing up but I can't wax it for a few weeks apparently...

Also oil and spark plug change planned for today.

Nothing left after that except having a shop do the forkseals then re-vin/reg/wof.

Yep. That one's gonna be easiest. Give it to the shop and say "it's making this noise, fix it."
Using the money from the Virago to fund fixing the Vmax and the Rebel then selling those. That should give me enough money to buy another bike without finance or a loan.

Ok, my dad painted the bits yesterday morning and I let them sit and dry for bit over the 24 hours the can tells me it needs to fully cure.

Unfortunately both me and my dad missed seeing a spot that he missed when painting so we're gonna need to touch that up sometime next week.
Pics are here. (http://s224.photobucket.com/albums/dd145/Waylander24_photos/Virago%201100%20project/Fenders%20and%20Tank%202/)

Easy enough to paint that small spot with the tank on the bike. I'm sure as not gonna go through re-connecting the fuel lines again.

Hey waylander, what are you hoping to get for the Rebel 250........
Last time I saw it (in Hamilton) she was in pieces.

Will it take quite a bit to get her back up to road standard?

Waylander
10th November 2007, 18:53
Also cleaned up the rest of the bike today.
Amazing what a bucket of water and soap,a wire brush and 4 hours worth of elbow grease can do.

Pics (http://s224.photobucket.com/albums/dd145/Waylander24_photos/Virago%201100%20project/Clean%20up/)

How much I hope to get for the rebel really depends on how much I get for this one, the Vmax and how much I have left after fixing them all.

And finally, the finished-ish project. Bike is all back together with the exception of one spark plug that snapped at the tip when I was swapping them out. Supercheap is closed so will have to go get another one tomorrow. Oil and oil filter have been changed as well.

Best wait a while before adjusting your mirrors then, could be catastrophic.

And don't, whatever you do, try and fix up the paintwork at the moment.

Have a great celebratory drink. Have one for me if you can cope with the taste of vodka.

Oddly enough, the bourbon I'm drinking right now is home made by a work mate using a Vodka base.

And don't worry, bike and tools re tucked away nicely in the garage. The rest of the work can wait till tomorrow arvo.
