View Full Version : Twisting it to get more spurts

So since my last foray into the realm of cocks and knobs, this week I finally got everything sorted. My pipe is all freeflowing, clean and clear and doesn't spurt or sputter anymore. AND it has 3 settings: On, Pri, Reserve. So - does anyone know what PRI would be?

Yamaha SRV 250 - strange and wonderful are the ways of the knob twiddling.

try primary maybe...not too sure what the purpose of primary would be if it has 'on' as well

PRI stands for PRIMATE - don't monkey around with it eh?

Nah,stands for prime, turns it into a real tap instead of one that only works with the motor going, put it on primate if it's been sitting for awhile.

It also helps if you've run out of gas, having it on prime will let fuel flow directly into the carbs rather than having to either pump it in of rely on the engine creating a vacume to suck it in.

You will notice there's no OFF marked on it.
That's because having Vac' Carbs the tap is always closed if the bikes not running. You need vacuum to open the tap,the prime just by passes this.
makes it good if you remove the tank a lot,no fuel going every where.

Or you can run it on Pri thinking that was "Primary" and run out of gas... like I did. (see the other thread) Cheers All!

Yeah, that's what I thought to start with too.

A couple of days ago I was replacing one of the gaskets on a carb. Put it all back together Tried kickstarting - no joy. Was running it down the driveway and it wasn't catching. Flicked the tap over to the prime position, and it went first pop...

thats what i thought too, i always thought it was some sort of direct fuel line.
a mate of mine had one on his ZXR250A and he always said when he ran outta gas he would turn it to pri. he said it use to be the maddest 400m... until it ran dry.
