I've just had to give Dog's his Triumph back :weep: but we thought it would be a great idea to get people out for a cruisy easy short ride on a Thursday or Friday night and end up at a cafe for coffee and a chat
So, ideas and sugestions welcome, the basic idea being a short, no pressure ride around some of the great back roads round here.
All experience levels catered for, it would be great to see some of the newer riders out there and a great chance to pick up tips and hints from the more experienced.
Rides would probably be no more than an hour or so and be home before dark.
So get posting with your ideas guys, now's the time for those warm balmy evenings which are so good on the bikes

Sounds like a great plan.. make the most of these summer evenings that are about to start in earnest ..
depending on shifts prob make 2 weeks outta 4 or depending what rostered day I have off may even be 3 ..
wot times you thinking of heading out .. same meeting point each week or mix it up for the different areas etc ?

Knew I'd forgotton something. Was busy texting someone while typing :mobile:
I was thinking 6 - 6.30 ish would give people a chance to get home and get sorted. Depending on the destination, we could make the meets at a servo closest to the route out of town. Say BP Rangitiki St, BP Fitzherbet, Ashhurst Mobil, etc. That way, we can gas up and head straight out of town and into it with minimum delay. There's a lot of great rides in all directions

good thinking Al....these hardly need mentioning but may as well....
1) Ashhurst, over the saddle rd, down to Pahiatua, through to Alfredton, back to Eketahuna then back up the main road and back over the track
2) halcombe, hunterville, vinegar hill loop
3) pohangina valley, mangaweka, vinegar hill loop
4) halcombe, fordell, hunterville, vinegar hill? not sure how long that would be?
in any case...yod will be there!! oops...and mrs yod too probably...sorry dear....
a good chance for some of the less experienced riders to get out and build confidence on shorter rides too I reckon...come on you lot, dont be shy, we dont bite...honest...

ohh and i wonder who that was  nods remembering some of us need time to get home, changed & get to meeting point .. mind you once eveyone has cellie list (that I still need to laminate for everyone)a quick text to say your coming so waiting a xtra 5-15 mins if ppl are running late should not be a biggie .. remember that we have Marton, Feilding, shannon riders to consider .. then dannevegas if sarge wants to join in & perhaps Pahiatua as well

Fab idea the few excursions we have done recently have been great and it would be nice to get more people out with us:sunny:

Check out the run from the chateau, via Fh to cape egmont, jan 27 2008 in this forum, you guys could do the run come back and stop in whanga if available.
Met 2 guys from Ashburton today at lunch time, just hopping on their yammy 1300s,heading out to whanga, seems they know the owner and doing their annual mid life cruise, left home yesterday and rode to Levin last night.Commented that the image wasn't right as I HAD to go back to work, weather was ok,but looked to be turning to crap, still out at pub very sheltered.

Should really replace the rings every 20 hours of riding and new pistons every month on those babies to keep them running sweet.
Thought of getting a newer bike and paying for the HP instead on continual repair bills?
Or maybe take it to Bones and let him work some magic.

me too...Had a great time seeing roads I didn't know we had in the area....Pushed a little tonight and have found me rear end is way too tight.. She was bouncing and dancing all over the show on corners and in a straight line hitting bumps gave a little head shake.... Kept me on my toes though but definately need to sort it before the FH ride...
Should I be fighting to keep it in shape round corners when it is leant over?? lol

Is the decoking and new rings thing because the bike isn't making any power now? Hell you just done a whole south island trip on it it can't be too bad.

well thats wot I thought & main reason was sending her in due to the oil splatter which we found came from the seals from the power band .. the rest is after the y have pulled the head off & wot the hell do i know so take their word for it that the pistons need doing ..
& decoking she was getting a real good build up so would have helped that smoking situation ... yes I know she is a two stroke she is supose to smoke

I have to agree. If Betsy is going to cost so much, wrap up her bits and store them. Spend the money on a new/2nd hand bike deposit and make easy payments. You can put down very little and spread the payments out and put lump sums down as you can. Life's too short to be bikeless! Easy?

NO worries mate, I found that a pair of polly grips actually does the job really nicely. Secure the top mount with a big cresent and she turns nicely....
Going to try something Robert Taylor suggested. Put what they call a Torrington Bearing between the spring and the preload adjusting ring and it should be a breeze to adjust.
The bearing if you can imagine it has two flat surfaces, top and bottom and either needle rollers or normaly ball bearings in between the two flat surfaces...
If that works then no more skinned knuckles. Either that or I might just remove the whole shock and adjust it off the bike in the future, can get it out in about 10mins, maybe faster with practice...

But Murphys Law states your shock is the wrong size.
Was thinking Torrington Bearing ? Then realised it was a Thrust Bearing after your explaination.
Presume you want to adjust this every time you take a pillion. Me thinks you just going to have to reach a compromise or your ring nuts will get worn out in no time not to mention the hassle.
Also get a couple of motorcycle tiedowns and you will be able to do all your front fork work as well very easilly.

You are quite right Garry. Constant adjusting will wear components rather quick so as yo usaid a comprimise is needed. The thrust bearing is a no go by the way, not enough meat on the lock ring as the spring would not be retained.
I have put this in the other manawatu thread but never mind..
I raised the rear end by about 20mm (approx 8mm at the adjuster ) and reset the rear shock rebound to what Robert Taylor suggested...
Went for a quick squirt and OMG the bike turns in alot quicker and the rear feels like a huge improvment. It is firm but still soaks up what bumps I could hit.. There was no dancing across the road when leant over.
Can't wait to take it for a decent blat.
I have sent spring measurments to Robert and he will send over an Ohlins Replacement spring to trial which will be more suited to my weight......
Will be interesting as to what differnece this makes.

can't wait to get out again....
Gave the bike some love today so it needs to be ravished on some twisties... Will be two up though..
Oil change/ gear lever adjusted/ new brake light switch (again)/ chain tightened/ idle RPM dropped a tad/ air box opened up a little/ carbs enrichened for more air flow...
Saw 86 at milson roundabout this afternoon, was going to give chase and demand home made coffee lol.. Had birthday cake and glue to pick up though..

Oh and there is a 14T front sprocket on it's way, shall be fitted tomorrow night hopefully... Yay, I will be able to ride below 50km/h without getting whiplash from jerky gearing being to tall...

well - I left work early this arvo and took the RF for a WOF (no probs, bit of a story with the dodgy indicator tho), then shot down to ANZA and actually got on the Sprint: nice, comfy, a little more upright than the RF but not as much as the concours, comfy, black, nice, comfy, great seat, comfy but....no panniers, they have no idea where they are which is a bit of a shame
dreams are free....
then I sat on the '07 Firestorm they got (in RED so it goes faster) run out model for $13k...yup $13k fark thats tempting, seating position was nice, felt quite balanced...but...seat was a LOT harder than the sprint...dunno if my poor skinny white arse could handle it on long distances
dreams are free....
then I went for a wee pootle on the trusty RF....:niceone: i like my bike;)

Backing off a little you can feel it mixture just coming right so some more tweaking but will be ready for FH.. Oh with the new hoolagin sprocket fitted too.... Yeah there is and its mentioned somewhere in the thread but check the date on the post or you may get the ride from previous weeks.
Pretty sure it departs like 6.15pm to 6.30pm at the Ashhurst Mobil.
Feel free to join in the disscussion about lawn mowing or anything else on
your mind.
You may also want to go back over the the Piewarmer thread to find out about a ride along the Forgotten Highway. Think it goes thru Wangas.

I mowed the lawns yesterday and have had a bit of time to think about my suspension. Wondering if the standard suspension on an SV can be made any better without spending any time or money on it. I don't think so.

Probably not as I haven't had Robert Taylor look at it. But I've heard theres not much you can do to improve on what Masport have achieved with this model. You can adjust the ride height in about 2 seconds.
