View Full Version : Behind number plate?

I had just completed 1165k's on my new bike when I discovered that it had no registration label attached.
I rang the dealer and she said look behind the number plate - so I did there was the warrent but no rego. She then printed me one and is delivering it to me later today.

QUESTION

Is it legal to have the warrent and registration mounted BEHIND the number plate? It sure makes the bike look a lot tidier, but the details are not visable without removing the plate

I'm pretty sure you have to put it somewhere it's visible. You may put it behind the plate as long as you can see the text without having to remove anything.

I've been through two random roadside rego / warrant checks with them mounted hard up behind the plate with no problems whatsoever.

That sounds right. It does state in the rules that it has to be on, or near the rear of the bike if i remember rightly.
Mine is behind the plate and upside down, but it can be read (as long as you arent a Wellington parking warden, whom cant read good).

My rego holder is up behind the steering head of my bike.

And my WOF is in my jacket pocket.

AND I haven't been pulled over or ticketed yet.

But then we don't have road Nazis or parking wardens down here.

A perk of living in the frozen unpopulated South I guess.:niceone:

...and when you get pulled over on the way home it's because you took the dunny key with you...

Seegars are getting closer...

Yeah, but what the hell would you know about the legality of anything? Huh? Sheesh. Some people...

I have mine on the 'plate bolt between the plate and the rear fender. When pulled over Me or the cop just pulls it down to read it. There is always a few mm poking it's cheeky head out so they can see where it is but not visible without actually swinging it out and they've never had a problem with it. Or my plate which is barely there! The black is half gone and the white refleciveness has been rubbed off my someone? not me of course!

All visible, saves them getting road muck on their hands wiping it clean to read or see that you don't just have a collage photocopy in there. I'm sure cops are more than happy with that.

I took the reg hold off the back
,It was under the plate ....bloody awful....
Now its stuck under the seat yes you have to unlock the seat ,but if your pulled over anyways !!!!!!
the wof is behind the plate but when i get a new wof it will be under the seat to .

I actually didnt think it had to be visable on a motorcycle anyways ...
Maybe wrong but didnt think it was law like a car.

I have found sitting above the plate the best as the vibes always seem to make it slip down over some of the plate......

The problem with putting it under the seat is that you could be fined for not displaying a current registration by the parking police.

I checked the LTSA site and it said that it must be displayed and should be put near the number plate

My wof is bolted right behind the main registration plate as previously mentioned. Ive been stopped in the past by the revenue collectors and not a word was said about it. The licence is bolted to the chain guard (on the kirb side of the bike) and no one has complained about that either.

Yesterday the bike had it's first ever WOF test and the tester knew exactly where to find the WOF holder. He too made no comment. He simply got his allen keys out, unbolted the holder, replaced the warrant and stuck it all back again! Fine chap!

Incidently, the OE rear reflector was removed by me when I shortened the rear mudguard. I put a $3 self-adhesive jobbie from Super Cheap Cages on the bottom of the registration plate. Again, no criticism of it by the fitness police.

As a result my whole rear end is much tidier ... or should that read my rear end whole is much tidier??

When I got my KTM it had one of those huge rego label steel/plastic holders mounted below the rego plate and the WOF next to it.....UUUUgly

I put the Wof on the bottom bolt for the Side cover (right by your right ankle) and got some scuff proof (clear vinyle) and stuck the rogo label to it and rapped it around the front fork between the two triple clamps so it looks like a sticker,

MUCH BETTER
