Hey Everyone

This is my first post on KB, but i've kept an eye on the forums for a while. After five years of saving and winning over the olds I've finally got a bike! I've been walking around with the biggest smile on my face ever. After so many years of working towards getting a bike, It feels freakin awesome to have one. Not many of my family and friends agree with the descision, but I love bikes and when i got my little beast it felt so right. Anyway I'm going out in neighbourhood for the first time tomorrow, nervous as hell :sweatdrop but really excited.I have a 1998 RG150 if your wondering, such an awesome little ripper *picture attached*. As far as gear goes, Ixon jacket and pants,a shark helmet, boots and teknic leather gloves (in the process of getting a fluorescent jacket and back protector). I'm hoping to make some great friends on KB n i'll see you all out on the road.

Peace out and ride safe.

P.S all advice welcome

Glad to hear you haven't skimped on any of the gear, like many new riders do - after all, it is while you are learning that you will likely need it the most!

You can get a excellent fluoro hi-viz vest by contacting Squiggles of the AUSMC (http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=84). Join the club, costs you $3 I think it was, and you get a vest that even has "Watch out for motorbikes!" printed on the back. Very sexy indeed. ;)

What part of Auckland are you in? Could get out and cover some asphalt together while you get your confidence up. :)

well done .. you are setting yourself up extremely well ... and the bike looks great!! I had the issue with parents and I was in my 30's ... overall they are ok with it now ... and accept it better ... I don't think that parents are ever that happy.

Heh good luck from one newbie to another! I just got a 2001 150FXR on saturday and ... I don't think I would have chosen to get off it at any point but I had responsibilities such as "sleeping" and "working" (everything else was expendible)

it just gets better as well, you think you're excited now...! have fun and be safe :D

Well done, good to see some determination nowadays.

Advice.

1. ALWAYS assume other motorists haven't seen you.

2. Practice your braking. Never snatch at the lever, apply some brake to load the front up before really giving it heaps. Keep your head up and pointing where you want to go. Practice, practice, practice.

+1 for the targhet fixation advice. Be aware of this and practice it always. You'll go where you look.

Like yer bike

Ride safe. We don't want to see a "binned it" post.

Learn about two strokes quickly because we probably don't need another "my 2 stroke blew up" story either.

Have fun, and if it rains continuously for the next two weeks we'll know who to blame....

I was going to call jinx on you but I see your post was after I got smashed up this morning.

Good move mate... When you bike goes from pic 1 to pic 2 onwards it really helps if you have the right gear on. Didn't even know my hands had hit the ground but my gloves have been nicely ground down....

Will write up what happened in another post in the hope that some of you learn from the incident. Cops have already decided it wasn't my fault but there's some insights probably worth sharing.

Fingers crossed she gets written off so I can use the cash for my upgrade. Novel way to sell a bike I know.....
