Hey all..well went for my first ride today with piratejafa. I have to give a massive thanks to jafa for helping me out. He stuck with me all the way and was a massive help with advice and the such. As for the ride well it was scary at first but freakin awesome. Stalled a couple times, still getting used to the clutch. It wasn't too bad apart from stalling on a roundabout and being a kickstart well it was interesting. Changing gears was terrible but i'm getting the hang of it haha. The two stroke gave me a few shocks, it pulls like anything for a 150 and really goes. Got a back protector today finishing off all my kit too :2thumbsup. Anyway it was really awesome and i definately belong on two wheels not four . Going out every day for an hour minimum to get experience. Will fill you guys in as i learn.

Ride safe

D

Good on you!
Stalling with a kick start is a pain, but you get faster at re-starting it with practise (don't ask me how I know :o)
If you can find an empty carpark, or similar, spend some time working on your slow speed handling, taking off smoothly, gear changes etc. If you can get all that stuff nailed, it's a lot easier out and about on the road

Awesome to hear..!!! As has been mentioned, practice alot of your slow speed handling, braking, smooth gear changes etc in a carpark... Makes things a little less over whelming as you will be concentrating more on that rather than worrying about the cars behind or in front of you.. You'll get there.. ;)

I still remember my first road ride.. I honestly don't know who was more nervous.. Me or my partner.. Poor thing went through so many ciggies.. lol

But my smile was priceless..

my first ride on a road bike was a ducati monster 900cc i caked my pants my dads friend had one and i asked as a joke if i can have a ride i was shocked when he said yeh sure,
having the front tyre pull off the road for the first time was the best even though it was only a inch or 2 but yeh i got a lil 250 hornet now and its awsum! love the thrill every time! and the sound at 15500rpm is addicting

Bwahahahahaha!

Welcome to the Dark Side!!

The best thing I learned when starting out was starting quickly and smoothly from a stall. I practised this in a carpark until I got it right, and had no probs with getting all panicky if I ever stalled at the lights in heavy traffic etc. (As you do when you're a noob.) It's a Good Thing to get down pat.

I'm still getting a little wobble on corners but i think ive found the problem, im leaning a little too much whilst going a little too slow..NOOB ERROR basically the back wobbles a little and starts to slide out, is this correct??

Wrong thread sorry!

Hey WOOT!
RGs are great. Just watch it as you pull above 8000rpm as then it will fly. You give nothing away to any 250 if you wring them out, but take it easy up there until you are very familiar with basic skills. Above 8k its a different animal.

I just got a bike and yea its not the greatest 250cc around but it scares the shizaz out of me but excites me just as much. I havn't been out yet still getting up the nerves going up and down the long driveway..any advice for hitting the roads the first time??

Yeah mate, make sure you have all the gear and check your bike! Check the tires, brakes and lights. After that take it easy and don't push yourself. Chucking yourself into traffic prob isn't the best idea. I've learnt lessons in my first month the hard way..so take it easy and have fun :D

Thanks, i went for my first ride this morning, MY GOD, yea its kinda diff to the scooter i used to have, so frikn exhilerating though, i cant explain the feeling of pulling the throttle and feeling the bike jumping to life and i have a crap bike...oh man it addicting... Damit im regretting getting a GN250 now because i ALREADY want more power, i ALREADY want more speed...anyone out there thinking of getting a GN250, youll get over it in a day...:(

Mate we will go riding cos a gn has heaps of power i've seen some very proficient riders doing great stuff with the old ginny*nods to the guy who had the gn on the bin ride we just had a couple days ago...man that gn was burning up*

WHAT?!?! GN's rock!
It may not have the most power in the world but what is important is that you have wheels! Have your mistakes on the Gn first (I already have) and then upgrade later on to something a little bit more expensive.
Ride safe!

YEa man i am comming to really dig the good old gn. Its deff a good first bike to have and when im ready ill upgrade to something with a lot more oomph, but as far as power the GN isnt too bad actually, even my friend with a CBR who used to be totally against GNs says they arnt nearly as gutless as he always thought. Oh i need some avice tho, i think its just me being a noob rider but every time i change from 3rd to 2nd or any other downshifts my back wheel squeels and steps out on me a little bit. I think it my clutch but i swear im letting it out as slowly as i can, i dont think i have the throttle open and i am definately not braking. Any advice for the clutch? how to avoid this, its pretty bad like almost sliding out sorta stuff...?

If you are OK with the clutch, seems like you may be changing down far too high in the revs. You are braking before slamming down a gear?

ital916
17th December 2007, 12:07
yeah braking before changing helps. I accidentallt changed into first once when wanting to go into second. lol Was interesting.

sometimes i wish for the sedateness of the gn. My rg wants to go all the time lol sometimes i can't be fucked revving and just let her sit at 6k.
