Burn outs

Its always fasinates me watching burn outs. What interests me is how the some bikes handle the hard punishment given to them by their owners the strange noises and different smells you can always pick a well build engines and gears boxes. In all my years of seeing burn outs I've only ever see one Harley go wright to the end without suffering a Major mechanically failure and yet you can't bet an old japper. Here's just some goodies in my collection just wonder if anyone else has a story or pic they wish to post.

Due to my limited exposure to bikes, I think I've only seen one burn out in person, was semi-impressive, but the cost of tyres makes it completely out of the question for me. I don't know about any wear n tear on the bike, but I assume there must be some?...

Dont like spending the $$$ on the tyres, they only last me around 2000kms anyway... Rolling burnies are awesome though :niceone: anyone can do a standing burnie......

I have a few good ones on video from OZ bike shows.
Most of em' are from highly modded HDs,they havn't suffered in any way you could see.I also got a few from the Angel drags here at Meremere.
One is really funny,this guy is giving it heaps,the bike is making mucho noise but the rear tyre isn't spinning.You could still smell his clutch half an hour later. :laugh:
My youngest brother spun up his FLHTC at a show,the thing went well for about ten seconds then spat the belt out into the crowd :killingme
The best I've seen was an early GSX1100,he took it right down to the canvas
and when it blew it spat him into the crowd :crazy: GOOD SHIT!!!!!!
I won't even try it myself,I'm a cheap ass an don't like spending money I don't need to.

CMIIW but isn't the best time to do burnies when you're going to have to change the rear anyway? In which case it shouldn't cost, should it?

I've seen HD's blow up, GSXR's (80's) catch fire on many an ocasion as the pipes are too close to the lower fairings and bikes just start loosing power tll they die :disapint: and all of them with a hell job of cleaning melted rubber of there bikes for the next 6 months.

But heres a few pic's the triple shot is of a GS 550 i think that was the most impressive I've ever seen as the poor bloody thing dissapaired in its own smoke, only the 4 red headers could be seen, emagine how hot the valves must be etc, but never missed a beat.

Best one I saw at a Cold Kiwi was a guy jumping up and down on the seat of a CB400 (or something or other), burning out the rear while two others held the bike straight. Bloody funny.

The burn out contests at Rowes Tyres in Rosebank Rd were hard case - no way they would be allowd now.Everyone used to stand around drinking beer and the cars and bikes would let loose on the pad,the tyres would explode and hunks of smoking rubber would fling into the crowd...you'd be flicking rubber off your T shirt trying not to spill your beer,great hunks of tread and steel belt would shoot into the air and little kids used to run and pick them up,totaly insane.The wet T shirt contest after was worth the wait...pretty soon the T shirts would come off,then the knickers,then the legs spread,the girl getting the most cheers being the winner of course.Those were the days - when burn outs were burn outs....

I agree, save the mechanical wear and tear and tip some old oil onto an old tyre on the ground and put a match to it!

Seriously, on an air-cooled bike it must be torture with lack of air-flow, - saw a Sporty doing 6,000rpm in 5th gear at a burnout, equals 120mph or so and they only had a small fan directed at the front of the bike!!! :doh:
