Best Road to Raglan?

Planning to ride down to Raglan some time this week...got max 4 hours each way, because i'm doing the return the same day...
But don't wanna take the motorway all way long and I don't really know the roads down there?
Some suggestions of nice twisty roads?

SH22 on a day like this is just brilliant, just watch out for the wild turkeys in some of the valleys. They have been known to surprise some riders by flying in front of them at the last minute.

You'll find more than that on SH22. There's a bit of everything on there, from corners that tighten to pea metal to surprise cambers to cows and sheep etc. Just pay attention. It's not a road to be scared of, rather to be respected.

If I'm riding in front, all you'll have to worry about is dodging the flying ruminant guts and bike parts.

Always a pleasure to ride down Raglan way! Nice roads, good twisties and doing via SH22 is great! Yeah, ditto for what others have said, SH22 is one of those ever changing roads and every time I've ridden it, lots of different things to watch out for (pine needles on corners in depth, cow effluent, hawks on road feeding off the roadkill, turkeys, trucks backing around corners, cows, sightseers/tourists, etc. etc.)

Have fun! Wish I was riding down there now! :msn-wink: (in fact, I still need to take a look at that corner where I low-sided from! :o :doh: ... might find some stuff I left behind there...)
