basically, dad's trusty old '85 ttr250 had a wee accident involving a tree, and the brake handle broke off at the mount.

i doubt you can weld these without cooking all the seals, so does anyone know of any available?

are they a standard fitting to the brake line? if so this will be alot easier.

Umm shouldnt the handle unbolt?

yes, but by "broke off at the mount" i mean the mount itself broke, the mount and reservoir is the one casting, so i need a new one or some means of reliable repair

Remove all the seals then weld?

Ahhh, you don't want a reservoir, you want an entire master cylinder!

Yes, you could weld one of those up, but don't. What size bore does this master cylinder have? It'll have it cast into the outside of it some where... probably either 1/2", 9/16" 5/8" or just a number like '14'.

On this note, I want a new remote reservoir for my RGV... anything would be fine, something from a GSXR or whatever.

i think i should explain now that on dirt bikes there is never a remote reservoir on the front. it's all one unit, handle, cylinder and all.

so i'm concerned that if i weld it i'll have something that will break again, and may cook the seals that i cannot remove without some serious disassembly

but if it's a standard fitting to the brake line, maybe i can go to a wreckers and just get a replacement?

ok then yes they are std fitting to the lines. Well actually there are 2 tread types but the banjo bolts are the same diameter so the line will fit both & as long as you have the bolt that came with the cylinder then you are sweet.

You could try a few wreckers & ask for a small dirtbike 1/2" master cylinder c/w lever to suit it. Maybe a picture. If you don't need the mirror mount or brake switch that will help with flexibility. The exit point on the cylinder should be in the same direction else fitting the line will be a drag & in the way if you see what I mean.

Good luck as obviously they do get broken in crashes. Try Victoria wreckers in Aus if no luck here.

Have seen them welded but need to totally disassemble & then hope doesn't distort & that the weld is good, will snap easier & would never do on a roadbike.

-Actually I'd never do it at all.

thanks, i just went to the yamaha shop and they looked it up on their computers and reckon it's standard but didn't know for sure.

guess i'll pull the thing off tonight and go around wreckers tomorrow
