His helicopter came down at a remote farm near Teviothead, off the A7 close to Hawick. He was understood to have been visiting friends living in the area when the accident happened. Lothian and Borders Police were alerted to the accident at 1650 BST, but a spokesman said it may have happened earlier in the day. Pat Douglas, 47, said her husband Walter, 51, had come across the crash scene while tending livestock. "We didn't see or hear anything really. In 2000 he broke his neck at Brands Hatch while a year later he was within touching distance of another title when he crashed into title rival John Reynolds at Rockingham. He ploughed into the concrete retaining wall at terrifying speed and suffered a badly broken leg, ankle and collarbone, costing him the title. Hislop, who was born in Hawick, was a popular face at racetracks around the country. Nicknamed `Hizzy', he enjoyed wild card appearances in World Superbikes and regularly upset the international stars on home turf.</font> </td> </tr> </tbody> </table>

RIP Hizzy.

Daaamn..2003 is turning out to be a god awful year for people associated with 2 wheels.&nbsp; Come on conspiracy theorists...is there something in the numeric sequence 2-0-0-3?&nbsp; Are the planets aligned funny?

Tragic news, wonder what happened.

At least it wasn't a bike accident. I'm so tired of people pointing out profesional riders killed in biking crashes, saying" if it happens to them, your doomed"

What?

A lot of tradgedy so far this century. still one has to ask is there more tradgedy or more coverage?

Hizzy was a legend in his own lifetime, gonein peace but not forgotten.

Whoops, article was from the good old BBC website.

I met Hizzy at the NEC November 2001, a broken ankle prevented him winning the championship that year. He was hobbling about with his leg in a cast and no crutches and was so approachable and easy to talk to. I'll miss him.

He will be missed.

His rides at the Isle of Man a few years ago including on the Norton were legendary.

tragic news..

Merv you are lucky to get promotion for 93 posts as 100 is the threshold for promotion it must be a glitch error. but like me you are now an official "fair weather rider" that would be cool if it were not for the fact that we face the rain everyday!
we are now middle managers but bugger we put in such quality input.
welcome to the fair weather club!

I wonder if after the broken neck he was already living on borrowed time?
Maybe his time was just up-sad loss though.
