I was lying in a hospital bed with two broken hands, head trauma, and sundry bruising. And a morphine drip (hmmmm morphine).
Shit, it's good to be alive.

Second that, with bells on.
My big production was 15 years ago, and good things that have come with it are 1) compassion for others, which I was in short supply of, and 2) every birthday means me - one, grim reaper - nil. Cures you from worrying about wrinkles and gravity, that's for sure!

I hear ya. Was 10 years ago this October the 19th that I lost the use of my arm in my accident. I've ridden the corner many many times since, but never stopped at the crash scene. On that day I did, something I'd been planning on doing for a long time. Was very surreal to be sitting up there, remembering that day. Life is great.

Amazing how people who have been seriously injured or have faced illness remember that milestone...
It is indeed great to be alive :woohoo:
For me 14 August 1999! That was the day the Doctors told my mother to prepare, as I would not make it through the night.
Hah!

Damn. Was that three years ago now?
I remember hearing about the biker downed at Ngauranga and wondering if it was one of ours.
Good to hear there's no long-lasting effects.

Thank you, all of you, for your survival stories. It helps put things into perspective and remind me how lucky I am.
29 July 1989 my Mum got a call from Brisbane to say my brother had been badly injured in a car crash. Broken neck, broken back (3 places), severe head injuries. Mum and I got on the next plane over there, not knowing if he would survive until we got there.
Eighteen years later and every day is a blessing. He made a complete recovery from the head injury, and we have all adapted to the things he can and can't do with his limited movement.
Amazingly, there is very little he can't do - even though he is pretty much paralysed from the chest down. Attitude is a wonderful thing.
