i just got my 2008 hyosung gt250r and hav now done 470k's and my brakes were find at the start but now they have started to squeak loudly and and verry spongey and uresposive.. is this from air in the brake lines or something else ?

Take it back to the dealer and explain your plight and politely request a brake bleed and replace the stock organics with scintered brake pads (offer to pay for the new pads of course).
The pad change makes a WORLD of difference to Hyosung brakes, and yes they should come with them in the first place, but they don't.

Cool thnx, are there any other improvements you can suggest to make the bike any better ?

squeaking would be due to the pads not being bedded in properly and hence becoming glazed. its not dangerous just annoying
sintered pads make a hella lotta difference so i am told. i wouldnt know since i am still on the stock pads for the last 8000km. they are more than half gone now and i have bought two pairs of sintered pads which is now sitting under my desk. i think i will do the brake fluid at the same time when i change them out, since its coming up on two years now

Braided brake lines make a huge difference to the amount of power, and on Hyosungs actually increase rather than decrease feel.

where is the best place to get braided lines from? are they available in standard lenghts or are they all custom made lines? thansk heaps and would a new master cylinder improve teh feel further?
Oh and sorry for highjacking your thread Donut

Best thing to do is get your local dealer to source them. They'll be able to get the right ones for your bike as well as making sure they comply with the standards for brake fittings.

Stop being a Nana and cane that thing, they like it you know? My std pads didn't last 2000K's and that included the run-in! The scintered ones last less than 4000K's, that is with the single front disk tho.

Yes, that'll be a problem with the CDI unit. I'm surprised it's still a problem with the 2008's though.
I think the problem first appeared with the 2006's, and I heard they had fixed it with the 2007's but mine still has the problem.
Talk to your dealer about it. They should replace your CDI unit under warranty.
For what it's worth, I tend to stay in 2nd until around 65-70k as the power delivery is better (great for when the idiot in front of you does something stupid and you need to pull away from an impending crash). Plus, this way I don't end up in the flat spot much. :)

Yeah I agree, they smooth out lots above 8,000 RPM. Get way faster throttle resonse too compared to the next gear up.
1000 posts! Never thought it'd happen!

I replaced mine, but noticed the stock ones on my bike were sintered already... if you've glazed them over by too softer breaking you can remove them and roughen em up a bit. I agree with probably just taking it to the dealer however :

I put braiding lines on my gtr and it's well worth the effort! .. trust me ... if you need a hand i'm more than happy to help out, it only takes an hour or so., as for tyres, get rid of the shitko's ASAP! ...
I got rid of mine after 2000K, the Pilot Actives I have now are great and still going strong after 26,000 K

Sounds like taking the time to bed your brakes properly would do you just as good.
Take your pads out, rough them up.
Put them back and get as much heat into them as you can untill you smell them.
Start off wuith 30 -0 then 40 - 0 60 -10 70 - 10etc untill you are doing as aggressive as you dare near stop from 80 kmph.
If you can't smell them keep trying until you can still smell them at 50kmph.

My brake pads squeeked at first. But now I ride over the Rimitakas as often as I can and that really beds them in.
As for the tires, theres not a fucken thing wrong with them. I scrape the pegs(not on the left handside though, kickstand scrapes instead) quite regularly and they haven't given me any grief while doing so. I'm not saying they are the best you can buy, buts theres not need to replace them.
Also, where did you buy your brake lines from Warlock? I noticed that they are twin lines.

I've been meaning to see if HEL have anything that will fit, seeing as they have a listed distributor just round the corber from my house.

I heard it wasn't a defect, but rather a deliberate dip in the engine/fuel management as euro 3 emmissions testing is conducted at 5,500rpm.
I took mine in to Mt Eden Motorcycles and they just snipped a wire off the CDI (I'm not sure which one..other than it might be brown??)
Fixed the issue tho...sweet

Yeah mate, the tyres aren't as bad as some say eh, maybe not so hot in the wet but I think some workmen may be blaming the tools again Grandad!

I have the HEL lines on the front, better feel. Shorter pull is the tradeoff and disagrees with my stumpy fingers trying to get the lever in enough but there's always trade-offs eh.

personally i get sick of break pads
ive had trouble with them
i would recommend vesrah pads and the softest you can get for the rear
i would recommend sintered for the front
i would then ride the bike as normal
mine were like yours are now
rear squawk
front were ok
and i definately say its the pads
i ride my next bike same as the one previous but pads are all good
as fo rthe bedding them in i think personaly it makes them worse

Yeah I'm sick of break [sic] pads too, just slowing me down.
Homer, there are the bits of cardboard that come in Hyo's and one type of replacement, semi-scintered ones so the options are rather limited.
