Just a quick question to anyone who rides, has ridden or knows a bit about the Buell xp Lightning.
I own an 05 hornet 900. I have put the aboves headlights and shield on my bike. Now i got genuine parts but am a little stumped. The two lamps can't aim at different lines. Also both bulbs are single filiment. So low beam being one lamp going then full beam being both only in my mind gives you a brighter or more intence lowbeam. How can that be? Is it road legal? and isn't that pretty shet not having a convetional highbeam?
Havent got out on the backroads with her at night yet, but i supose im feeling like they are going to be crap in pitch black.
Am i missing something?

yup....they are XB not xp.
hang on, Ill have a look........
ok, different lights on a XB12R to an XB12S but my lights (XB12R) seem to have different bulbs in each light, the high bulb looks different to the low bulb.
drop in to amps in kyber pass and ask them.

I've done the mod myself.

One light at a time on my bike low/high beam. I couldn't be bothered wiring for both to come on. The Pass switch brought both on, and it didn't make much difference to my riding experience anyway.
Not super sure what you mean about 'direction', cause the description is a bit 'trademe speak', but there was a difference in where the lights point on my unit, and that passed a warrant fine. The lights aren't great at night on the twisty stuff thats for sure, mostly a caveat with having the lights turn with the bars. Right handers were worse that left :)
Any other help I can give (not that I have much :))?

Yeah same mod, but i went for the black screen. It's just when i aim them up against a wall i cant see a difference. Surely one of them should be aimed higher.
Im going to see the boys down kyber pass this weekend.
Maybe im just retarded

Yeah, try it in the dark of the night instead maybe? I just kinda jiggled it a bit and it was about right.
You'll get lots of good comments, and many a wannabee wanting to buy your bike when you come to sell it, but they never have the money :) ... recommend selling with predominantly a photo of the stock headlight.

can't see why u guys want to replace the great headlight mr honda has given us . They are freeform reflector designs and do a great job at night... :Pokey:

Ill never go back to the original.
Although it did then need smaller indicators on the front at least, as the smaller headlight uint made the stock indicators look bloody massive.
I had a good look at it today and the only difference i can see is the reflector on the right hand side is different than the other side.
One other thing to mention, I got a custom bike place to make my bracket as i have no guarage let alone a workbench. Now the guy made the bracket and wired then fitted the lot for me at the tune of $100. I was ok with that just because of the conveniance.
BUT.....both lights go on low beam and then on high just the park lights go. Im pretty good at wiring stuff as i used to be a sparky so ill see if wiring it correctly makes any difference. Although im pretty sure it wont but who knows?

Cheers mate,
I took it all apart and found that it was wired wrong and thus giving me less juice to my high beam lamp due to it sharing the same wire as my low. This is why i was thinkin my hi beam was poo.
I have a slightly eaiser method than the one you sent me in mind, but cheers because if my plan falls through then i have a 100% gunna work plan B.
Thanks for your help

I find they are good enough for what I do, but a lot of country night time riding would need some auxillarys.

I did the Grand challange using the standard single with a Hella +50 bulb. It was better than most factory headlights in all the bikes I have. The bird comes close but the single on the Hornet was the best. Was your single light aimed properly?

You lil bloody rippa,
All sorted now and workin fine. If anyone cares how i did it let me know. Even Buell riders that want both lamps going on Hibeam. It literly took me 7 mins to rewire with just a tickle of solder. That will teach me for not going straight to the switch, Must be slippin..
See you guys on the next night ride.
And Zapf my headlight was aimed properly, although it wasn't when i got it out of the shop.
Cheers for your guys input, another successfull mission
